I need to stop watching footy classified, apparently Sydney is closer to a premiership than Carlton is. And Fremantle's midfield is 8 deep where's ours only has Murphy and Cripps
Ross Lyon is a dick.

Apparently we’re only as good as what we were because of Cripps, regardless of the fact that Cripps had, by his standards, an ordinary season. So surely then our improvement has come from the development of younger players and if Cripps gets back to 2019 form then it’s a real worry for other clubs?

But then I’m not an expert...

Did they not even mention Walsh or Setterfield for us? Bet they included Serong, Brayshaw and Cerra in the Fremantle 8.

No Walsh, Setterfield, Curnow.
And Freo have better forwards and backs.

Just gobsmacked.

Key word there is 'clubs'; plural, not singular.

Our ITK posters suggested our offer was a long way from the highest, and that we were unwilling to move any higher.

I am stoked that we - seemingly - have secured Williams (I’m a bit gunshy, I’ll believe it when I see him with a CFC polo on), but if the reports of being shopped to the highest bidder are true it gives the appearance of a mercenary. While $$$ are a big factor, you want someone to come to your club for more than just that.
If the salary averages out at $750k per over 5, it is a bit of an overpay based on his output to date - but the fact of the matter is you usually have to pay overs to get a FA out of their club.

Holy ******* sh*t!

When's trade week? I'd expected them to play funnybuggers for weeks first.

I guess if he is a Restricted FA and wants to go to blues then it would look rather weird if GWS started trying to say that they might match our contract when the whole world knows about their massive SC problems. It would come across as rather petty and would not go well with the players.

From our perspective, it would be great to get an early big deal done as it would help encourage other players to jump towards us if there is a choice eg Saad

Correct. It was Ross Lyon.

Lyon also mentioned that Sydney need a key back, a key forward and ruck but soon after, when answering Caro's question, said that he had no doubt that Sydney would win a premiership before Carlton. Lyon overlooking our key position players like McKay, Weitering, a promising De Koning and Charlie to come back.

Will say Freo have a very good structure .. they play a solid dependable style .. we still working on ours - I think once our tempo clicks we will beat those behind the play type teams easily

Hmm, black mark against a SOS mate there I think.

Ross Lyon would know all about building a premiership team, I mean, look at his record.

We also have a "RESPECT" round Ross, but you wouldn't know anything about that.

A few being a bit harsh on him really.

I might be wrong but I'm assuming he has been up in Qld around the squad. Otherwise how would he know how Kemp and Charlie are looking? I don't think all his info would be coming from his nephew. If he is up there, it is/has been the perfect year to chat to a number of people. Bloody hell, I stayed in Burleigh Heads for a fortnight and chatted to a few Essendon and Richmond people who frequented the beach and walking track there.

I love what he has said. Got Williams (fast) big chance on Saad (fast) with another unknown mid as a chance. I bet that mid is not in the same category as Wines, Viney, Crouch etc. (i.e. slower inside type). We need to add speed, otherwise all we are doing is replacing one type (say Ed) with another very similar type, albeit younger.

Good work Soap.
I think some of the harshness comes from how he exited our board, certainly went out with a bang

Personally, as he hasn’t been around this place for 12 months, I just wondered how he might be coming across this info, aside from the obvious

From memory his posting style sometimes came across as factual info when it was actually opinion based

It’s a bluemour thread, absolutely no issue with anyone posting things related to that, said as much about Reg just the other day.

Just makes it so much sweeter as we rise into finals next year.
Maybe Swans and Freo will be our rivals..maybe not.
Once we rise we will be around finals for many years to come.
I hope we land an A grade midfielder in this trade period. Will speed up the process a lot.
But I don't doubt fellow baggers.
And I just laugh when media folk don't get where we are at.
Now, hand me those shades.
Future looks dazzling.

Both Sydney and Freo seem to have a "system" that is working and get to a certain level of play especially defensively. Whether its enough to win premierships without more elite talent is questionable. We seem to rely more on talent than system at the moment.

I think Sydney's well placed as their young talent seems to be developing quickly and they fit into their system. Their kicking into the forward 50 is so much better than ours. Buddy's salary is holding them back from getting 1-2 more good players into the team. Though an 80 goal season from Buddy would likely get them into the finals.

Freo are hard to win against but I don't see them being a top 4 team without some more elite talent.

IF we can get a system working for 4 quarters and IF our young talent comes on then we should be way better than both eg Dow, LOB, Kemp, Stocker and if SPS can kick further than 20m.

Need to not get worked up by the talking heads gang.

Jordan Lewis was quoted earlier in the week that we should take Saad ahead of Williams as he would cost less in a trade, and that he heard we were into Perryman, who would likely go home to SA were he to leave...of course leaving aside the fact Williams is an RFA and Perryman is from the Riverina. This was then syndicated as expert opinion.

These guys know as much, or perhaps even less about about the state of play than you're average footy fan...they're just deperately tring to feed the machine.

The talk with Carro and Lyon, they mention that the club made big noise and publicly stated playing finals this year was the target, I don't recall that at all.

Am I wrong? I don't think the club said anything about finals being the minimal goal this season? At least publicly.

They must be worried. Why else bother potting us at every turn?

Didn't really recall if finals was the no.1 target. Talks about during mid way through the season from outside media personel when we came out humming. But the narrative was to keep playing and see what unfolds.

The media were certainly jumping on board saying we're in the race, but I don't recall the club saying at all that the finals was the expectation

This is the thing that irks me.

Obviously the clubs goal was to make finals which was the same goal as 17 other teams.

In saying that how many of these experts picked Carlton in their top 8 at the start of the season?

Wouldn't have been many but then they come out and say we had a disappointing year by finishing a game or two outside the 8.

I agree, I think she was putting words in the clubs mouth.

The reality is it was a disappointing year because we unexpectedly got into a position where we could have made finals and one 1 out of the last 5 games. As it played out we needed to win 4 out of 5 games to make it so were always up against it.
