We should be knee deep in negotiations with the blues for pick 7 now that they are locked in with Saad. There's a solid chance that GWS get 2x first round comps for Williams and Cameron, so jumping from 9 to 7 could realistically be a 4 spot jump.

This might get flamed a bit here but I'd be keen for a deal like the following:

Carlton gives: 7 + Dow
North gives: 9 + 25

Dow slots right into the age profile for the midfield, plus we move ourselves right into the frame for the draft sliders at 7 (could be a DGB, Thilthorpe, Phillips etc)

Not sure about Dow but I wouldnt mind moving up position to grab someone before the Compensation sets in.
Assume you value Dow around that pick 25? Havent really seen much of the kid

Points wise it rates Dow around pick 33 with the move up. He's very much a fringe player at the blues, but would be a good option to buy low.

Plus if the blues can pick up both Saad and Williams, he'll be shuffled lower in the pecking order, might be keen to leave for more game time.

I remain completely baffled by our strategy around BBB. Our bargaining power is now completely compromised given that suitors know that we're happy for him to move on. How can that be remotely advantageous to the Club?

How is that different to an out-of-contract Saad attracting #7 with no chance of returning after the club mouthpieces have insinuated he’s mentally soft?

With Williams & Saad joining Carlton, what about taking Dow off their hands for a 3rd/4th rounder to ease their cap pressure?

The way Paddy is going, that would save them about $23.68

He would already be gone if he wasn’t such a high pick. I wouldn’t hand over anything more than a speculative pick now.

PIES LOWBALLING MIHOCEK

Collingwood will have to find more money to secure three-goal finals hero Brody Mihocek, who has been offered a three-season deal but with only a modest pay rise.

The club has significant cap issues so cannot offer him a deal that reflects his form.

He would ideally love to remain at Collingwood, which will lock away Josh Daicos as he continues his huge breakout season.

The Herald Sun revealed last month the club’s salary squeeze could force Mihocek out of the Pies.

Despite an improved offer there is still not common ground on his deal.

CLARK ON OUTER AT CATS

Young Cat Jordan Clark has fallen out-of-favour in his second season at the club despite Geelong’s need for speed.

The Western Australian dazzled in his first season at the Cattery, playing 18 games in a rebounding defensive role to finish equal fifth in the Rising Star award.

But Clark has played only three matches in a follow-up season amid suggestions he was being continually left out because he needed to tighten up his defensive skills.

The 19-year-old averaged 13 disposals in his three games this year including seven contested possessions in total.

But he can add some line breaking run and is rated for his ability to read the play and cleanness at ground level.

The Cats have an ageing backline and outside of Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Rohan are light on for high-end leg speed, especially in the back half.

Clark is contracted for next season after signing a two-year deal and will have big plans to re-establish his position in the senior side in 2021.

He could slot in for Irishman Zach Tuohy, 30, who is out of contract at season’s end.

Tuohy has played 16 games and averaged 17 disposals a game this year.

CATS EYE KEY OFF-FIELD TARGET

Geelong is eyeing former Adelaide and North Melbourne medico Steve Saunders as part of its off-field revamp for next season.

The Cats are set to lose head physio Hamish Macauley and have flagged their strong interest in landing Saunders after two years with the Crows.

Saunders, who is head of science and medicine at Adelaide, won’t be at the club next season and has received several approaches from rival clubs.

The Cats are keen to land Saunders and have close links to him through coach Chris Scott, whose twin brother Brad worked closely with Saunders when they were at the Kangaroos together.

Geelong already has one of the best medical records in the competition this season despite losing fringe midfielder Jack Steven to a hamstring setback at the weekend.

In particular superstars Tom Hawkins and Paddy Dangerfield have not missed a game this season, while captain Joel Selwood is expected to play against Collingwood in Saturday night’s cutthroat semi-final after surgery to mend a ruptured finger tendon last weekend.

But all clubs are restructuring their off-field departments in a bid to come under the new $6.2 million soft cap for next season.

The Cats are also expected to lose academy manager James Rahilly as part of the changes. The Crows are circling Rahilly.

North Melbourne on Monday confirmed it had poached Sydney Swans’ assistant John Blakey to replace departed assistant Jade Rawlings for next season.

While Blakey is widely seen as a potential senior coach, the Roos have also reached out to Sydney Swans’ premiership coach Paul Roos about a mentoring role for 2021.

Every player with at least one prior game elsewhere to play their first game at Carlton from 2016-present: Sam Kerridge, Jed Lamb, Andrew Phillips, Matthew Wright, Lachie Plowman, Liam Sumner, Daniel Gorringe, Caleb Marchbank, Billie Smedts, Rhys Palmer, Alex Silvagni, Jarrod Garlett, Matthew Kennedy, Aaron Mullett, Cam O'Shea, Darcy Lang, Matt Shaw, Matthew Lobbe, Alex Fasolo, Mitch McGovern, Nic Newman, Will Setterfield, Hugh Goddard, Josh Deluca, Jack Martin, Jack Newnes, Marc Pittonet, Callum Moore.

So that's 28 without counting anyone like Tom Bugg (no Blues games) or Jarrod Pickett (no GWS games). For comparison, by the same metric we've had 12 during that period (Jed Anderson, Farren Ray, Nathan Hrovat, Marley Williams, Billy Hartung, Aaron Hall, Jasper Pittard, Jared Polec, Dom Tyson, Tom Campbell, Josh Walker, Aiden Bonar), and that doesn't count guys like Alex Morgan or Paul Ahern who didn't debut for their original clubs.
That’s pretty extraordinary given the opportunities they’ve had to pick the eyes out of the draft.

Where does Dow slot into our side? There is no place in the midfield for him, given we will have Cunners, Higgo (at this stage), Jed, LDU, Simkin, TT. I like the romanticism of getting kids that BFNAAK, but that hasn't worked out for us in the past -> Mitch Hibberd

It's strange isn't it.

Without knowing the numbers, I reckon Melbourne are doing the same after years and years and years of top end draft picks. May, Lever, Tomlinson, Hibberd, Langdon, Lewis, Dunn, Garlett, Frost, Melksham - just off the top of my head.

Does that tell us 'all in' at the draft doesn't work or these clubs can't develop to save themselves?

Firstly, any player recruited because they BFNAAK should see the list manager sacked.

Re where Dow fits, if he is good enough, it won't matter

Which bit don't you understand? Club offered him 3yrs @850k and perf for 4th.... they wanted 4. Then Covid hit, his perf and injuries became a concern and they no longer thought he was worth those levels. So suitors know yes we're happy to move him on rather than pay him that....pretty simple. Suitors May offer him 650k do you reckon brown will accept that....

Geelong should carefully review this photo, then carefully review Wellsy's injury history during Saunders' tenure at North and then run for their f***ing lives.

Also, it's interesting that the article refers to Jack Steven as a "fringe midfielder". It wasn't that long ago that he was being touted as the final piece to their premiership puzzle.

If we wanted Saad we would have paid what Carlton paid.

Same goes for Williams, we wouldn't pay what they paid.

I doubt it is about not wanting to pay the money.

PSD pick 2 and cap space? I don't see how we wouldn't do it.
