Our boys are always so generous in helping other clubs out, I was tinkering with ideas on how we could help 3 clubs out with 2 trades

Of course on the face of it these are all to our advantage but some late pick swaps would even them up

Now, consider that the dogs will want 2 future 1sts for Dunkley, pies won't want a 2021 1st and methendon are campaigners..

So-

We swap 17 with the pies for their 2021 1st

We then swap our 2021 1st with methendon for pick 7 or 8

Methendon have 2 2021 1sts for dunkley (they're gonna lose 7/8 one way or the other to get Dunkley)

Pies get out of 2021 1st round and have 2 x 1sts this year

Dogs get 2 future firsts and don't damage their 2020 position for JUH

We keep a 1st round interest both years with likely slight upgrades

Of course we do all of this because we are a magnanimous club always looking to just be helpful 😉

If we are getting rid of Lonie, no need to move on Hind. We have Battle & Clavarino as replacements for Carlisle, so no need to worry too much there. If Higgins is off the table, then B.Ronke could be a good cheap get. If we don't get Treloar, then C.Constable could be a good cheap get. Or just pick a J.Carroll, E.Ford or F.
McCrae in the draft. And try & get K.Baldwin, F.Rosman & H.Walsh, all KPP'S with later draft picks. Dunstan & Ross should be moved on, if we get decent picks for them.

With respect Seb was being hidden away as a half back flanker during the Richo era , we had 10 half back
flankers on our list yet we were playing Ross & Armitage there .

Sinclair for mine had a great year , offers run & skill.

Regardless of what transpires in the future , would’ve loved to play with Luke , tough, hard , the unheralded
blocks , ultimate team player .

Dunstan would have been a very good player in the 80’s & 90’s.

Would have thrived in mud pit at Moorabbin.

The fast tracks in today’s footy don’t suit him at all.

Mid rotations:

Steele - Inside Mid/Fwd
Crouch - Inside Mid/?
Ross - Inside/outside mid
Hanners - Inside/outside
Sinclair - outside/inside
Hill - Outside/FWD
Jones - Inside/outside/half back
Gresh - Fwd/Inside
Billings - Fwd/outside
Clark - Half Back/inside/outside
Bytel - Inside/?
Byrnes - Inside/outside/fwd

that’s a good mix. May lack versatility of say Geelong’s midfield. But that’s pretty versatile to me.

Hoping the acquisition of Crouch will allow Steele to play more forward. Just reckon he can hold his own against defenders and could allow him to impact the scoreboard even more. He played pretty much all of his time as a mid this season and still kicked 10(?) goals which is a impressive return imo. Allows for more rotations around the ground instead of off the ground.

Welcome to McKernan. Very handy backup that can actually ruck and give the other boys a week off if need be.
No he can’t Ruck.

But he is a decent back up. He is a very very poor mans Marshall who can take a grab

I like the McKernan signing. Best case scenario, he never plays a game for us. Worst case, he's a fairly dependable injury stop gap for a lot of positions.

Hard to get excited about it for me. Is at best a journeyman at 30. I think we would be hoping he doesn't play best 22.

He isn’t in our best 22.

Our interest in the last few weeks has been clearly articulated by Gags and Lethlean.

He is replacing Abbot - who is the back up Ruck.

He will only play when the best 22 don’t play.

I get the feeling that if we got a look at the Saints books, there would be some ordinary players on a pretty good wicket.

Not entirely the clubs fault though, when you are forced to pay 95% of the cap even when your team stinks, money has to go to guys like McKenzie, Dunstan, J-Web.

If one of Marshall and Ryder is injured, the non injured one plays as the sole ruckmen and McKernan comes in to play forward. The Richmond final is an example of where that would’ve been handy.

I know why he was recruited.

If he is playing in our best 22 then that week he is best 22. I would prefer not to see him in the team as it likely means someone has been struck down. Is that so hard to comprehend?

Welcome to the club, Smack!

Might play half a dozen games but if any of King, Marshall or Ryder miss he can hold down a spot in the forward line.

Has had some pretty good games but geez he loves to give away a free kick or 5 haha
Fine as a forward backstop. Just hope we don’t get injuries to both Ro and Ryder, as we have no ruck back up

McKernan is a good back-up option as a mature body to stand in the forward line next to King if anything happens to one of our rucks.

Will allows us to keep our preferred structure, unlike this year where we had to revert to one ruck and change how the forward line set up.

Surely Dunstan would have his nose out of joint with Crouch and Bytel ahead a d potentially Trelor he is no chance of a game.

Ross unhappy just does not make sense. He goes from mid no 3 to mid no 5. Takes Steele's spot as a run with.

Moving Webster Dunstan and Lonie gets us potentially 3 picks in the late 20s to mid 30s.

If we can bundle them up for Trelor using our first this year makes sense. If not we can use these picks for upgrades for teams that need points this year.

Maybe even Caldwell if Doddo does his usual trick and GWS get sick of waiting.

If Seb wants to leave then we should get a pick in the late teens I reckon. Makes Trelor more affordable but in reality there is not much change but may create disharmony in the team which we do not need.

His point is it's not intended to be an acquisition worth "getting excited about" as you said you were struggling to do.

He is an insurance policy and that's it, and he's an upgrade on our previous one.

When Michael Rix joined the Saints, Thomas told him he would probably never get a senior game.
Rix who once had 22 hitouts, played 29 games in 3 years, 17 in 2007.
Also rucking in 2007 was Matthew Clark who must have been around 67 years old at the time.
Doc's wiki page says " He performed strongly as the side's primary ruckman, displaying his usual ruckwork dexterity. " which is why you need to check on what you read in Wikipedia. ( He had 26 hitouts in one game ).

Me , i'm pretty happy to have McKernan. Who not only had 22 hitouts as recently as 2019, but has also been known to kick 3 or 4 goals.
