Everyone knows he is the best horse in this by panels - just not over 1400 - I am staggered so many decent form analysts are falling for this - especially when none wanted him in the Cox Plate!

Lol now I have heard at all! Using sectionals from a Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup to suggest he can run 1400 to the same ability is absolutely laughable. Will be the same result as Surprises Catty in the Feehan.

Surprised he is not going around in the Lightning given the red hot form he should in that 1200m trial - would certainly towel Behemoth!!!!

Nothing to suggest he won't be good enough over the 1400m though, he is just untried. His Cox Plate splits showed a very good turn of foot and the way he gapped the rest of these under a hold in his trial was a positive.

If he was taking on quality 1400m horses it would be more of an issue but this lot are garbage. The Slowmoth should have lined up here to give him a contest.

Yes apart from the fact he was trained by the greatest ever who want nothing but champion milers for their breeding operation - debuted him over 2400 and never started him over less than 2000

But I guess Maher and Eustace know better - lel

Lol enjoy those sectionals mate - he doesn't have a turn of foot - he is a dead set powerful animal that needs to grind over the top of them off a savage tempo like he got in the Cox

He is not a 1400m galloper which is obvious to any international form student - no wonder the local mongs are all over him here in a totally unsuitable race.

Same trainer never ran SYT below 2000m but Bart had no troubles knocking off 1400m races with him here

All relative to what he is up against.

Yeah thats why i said THIS LINE UP

He is a shocking bet at the price anyway - if he wins this you will get better in probably every other start this prep and he will win all of those anyway - it's just a stupid risk/reward proposition this week.

I am as confident of him not winning this week as I was of Aspertar being totally non competitive in the Cox Plate

Despite the trash nature of his opposition, I think for the class angle to be relevant re: Sir Dragonet, he really needs to be OSL or one-back at the most, so he can pour on the pressure when he wants. I don't know if he has the pace, but from that gate they'd be mad not to try have him in striking range.

Much like recent years (hello Manuel and Alabama Express) if SOA and Crosshaven get it their own way and put the brakes on, you're basically taking $3 for him in a 800m sprint, negating all class edge.

yup - given this mad push is based on his Geelong trial where he led (and now everyone thinks he is a champion sprinter-miler) - he just has to go straight to the front and kick away from them from the 600 just like Tagaloa did....oh wait

I remember when Protectionist won the Melbourne Cup and everyone was raving about his “turn of foot” at the end of two miles. It was nothing of the sort, he was just not slowing down as much as the others. They gave him to an Australian trainer who kicked him off over 1400 next prep and, well...they ruined him.

Not saying SD can’t win on Saturday- some international horses (Redkirk Warrior, Hartnell) have been good trained up for shorter distances, and he has loads more class than these- but if he wins on Saturday I think it bodes poorly for the rest of the prep if they want to step him out to say 2400m. Those days are over.

Either way, I HATE that they are even thinking about starting him here.
