Touché, I didn’t word it well. Contracts and salary cap should not be the responsibility of one single person.

So either it’s all him and the club is equally culpable for leaving him with 100% control........ or it’s a shared committee decision that he is just part of.

Either way the blame lies broader than just with him.

I think some of the re-signing rates might have been related to triggers in previous contracts.

But ultimately, I think he was a part of a pyramid scheme that assumed that the cap would continue to rise indefinitely.

Sure Off Tap, Shazza was a top end pick with - for a junior - strong skills and abilities whereas Freeman was atrociously fast but burdened with an opinionated and ignorant father.
Both endured simply unbelievable runs of injuries that never relented, Freeman's father was a royal pain and convinced his son to go to the saints where his injury woes continued despite the strident claims of his harpy of a father that it was all Collingwood's fault.
Shazza remained loyal to the Pies and they to him but in the end the unending tsunami of injuries wore his body down and his career was over before it even got a chance to get going.
If those lads bodies had been enabled them to live up to their draft promise things would have been very different rather than having a huge hole in the list for YEARS.

EFA. He re-signed Treloar, Stephenson, Phillips, Cox and Grundy to horrible horrible contracts traded in Beams and kept Reid on board for two years past his used by date. Yes things probably weren’t great from the moment we hired Allen, but all Guy did was kick the can down the road and then flat out lie to us about why we did what we did during the 2020 trade period. The Guy has blood on his hands!

Guy didn’t commence in the role until 2018.

Cox was re-signed in 2017 on a 3yr contract at $550k pa with an option for the 4th year.

And why are you so upset that ‘Guy’ lied to us? Do you think clubs always tell you exactly what they think or what is happening? You don’t think he was told what to say/not say in the media?

He wasn’t perfect but I’d imagine part of the issue at the Collingwood Football Club (as has been pointed out), is that certain forces had too much of a say on the list and team. I wouldn’t have been surprised if Eddie and the board directed Guy to get certain things done. Do you think the board were involved in signing off the Grundy deal? I definitely think that was the case.

Shazza was suffering with a significant foot injury in his draft year. This turned some clubs off. Then once with us he did his knee. There was concern that his foot injury may have contributed to his knee injury (change in weight bearing and altered gait) but never proved.
