Autopsy Round 13, 2021: Hawks sink the Swans

DAY opened up the defence and allowed Jiath and Scrimshaw to play their natural game.

NEWCOMBE pairing with Mitchell allowed the whole midfield to play to their potential O'Meara was huge but guys like Shiels and Phillips came into the game by having faith that others were winning the contest.

Massive win for the club. Not for the win but how we did it. The future is suddenly looking brighter.

Duke looks a player. Good to see Day back. CJ back in form.

Our energy was the most impressive thing. We haven’t played with that much intensity since round 6. Now just to see if we can repeat it as we looked flat as before the bye.

That was fun

welcome back Will

welcome Jai - that was an outstanding debut - made the midfield look completely different

Sorry for bad mouthing you Cegs

Timmy “almost” played a role - crashing those packs was excellent

phillips was good

JOM and Mitch were huge

Really good even performance from every player tonight.
Really liked:
Frost/CJ
Day
JOM, and the Duke looks right at home, he did a lot that was necessary.
O7brian gets into great positions, has a good leap...he should be a superstar of the game. He needs thumbs!!

I know the draft is important for us seeing as this year is lost, but it's important for the lads to get wins against Finals contenders and mess with other teams seasons a bit too.

Games are won in the midfield and Jonathan Ceglar was dominant, his best ever game and one of the best games by a Hawthorn ruck for a while.

Feel for big Ned rolls his ankle and now will need to fight for his spot back.

Sicily, gunston still out.

Hopefully we see DGB this year too.

Anyone arguing game plans after tonight should think about whats happened tonight. Sydney COULD NOT play the way they wanted all night. We played fast football in the first half sydney structured much more defensively in the second half until 11 mins to go and we broke them.

Game plans are only as good as the players executing them and the opposition play a big part in how u execute

Great win hawks. Played with a plan executed really well especially defensively. Jai Newcombe holy s**t. Day and JOM huge ins Cegs was great in the ruck

Huge All-Team effort and it shows! Confidence was high. Biggest notable improvement was the midfield, Mitchell / JOM / Worps trio clicked and the defensive pressure from mid made all the difference, giving our backline more breathing space to act as the final line when Swans got inside 50.

Great to have Day back and the Duke... What an absolute beast!

The only thing I'd critique would be O'Brien... He's clearly going all in on the contested marks, but still doesn't nail them... Is there a solution?
