More then likely yes or do you want to go back to the gold ole days 8:30pm Friday night game on delay 7s big night Saturday Night 6:30pm and maybe 3pm game on delay with no 9 games on TV per week and with the same teams always on TV.
Plus if the AFL can convince the federal government to loosen the Anti Syfinan laws all AFL games will be on streaming services to the Highest bidder .

The game needs/wants more money & it will come from the consumer in one way or another.
The highest bidder will win the rights & behind that bid will the consumer footing the bill & its got nothing to do with liking it or not.

these rounds with the bye are a solid example of what Saturdays will probably end up like in the next rights deal. twilight game at 4:30pm and night game(s) at 7:30pm, the death of the traditional Saturday afternoon timeslot (excl state leagues, but maybe the return of a curtain raiser game?)
Have to disagree. With 9 games in a normal round you'd be silly not to have a game at 2pm Saturday to minimise games crossing over.

Interesting changes to the way FTA is measured & reported may have an effect on the value of media rights.

'The official television audience reporting compiled by OzTAM will include two lots of ratings: the first will include linear TV (traditional TV viewing) and Broadcast Video on Demand (BVOD) viewing over the previous seven days. They will be released at 9am each day.

The second lot of ratings, already released daily, will continue to include the overnight tables showing linear TV viewing only and they will be released at 10am.

Seven West Media chief executive James Warburton has pushed for ratings reforms and said the seven-day viewing numbers better reflected true audience numbers.'

Also interesting to note that the AFL (and 7 no doubt) is pushing for Thursday games every week from next season. Value is being extracted where it can. Only a matter of time before WCE and Freo are playing a few Sunday games at 7pm eastern (not every week, but probably starting off as 2-3 each per season)

Poor crowd 30500.

On a Monday night, against 18th on the ladder after two very below-par performances immediately after restrictions ease. If that's poor then the games in a pretty good spot.

If you wouldn't play West Coast v North on a Friday Night, you wouldn't want to play it on a Thursday/Sunday/Monday night either.

Crowds are down across the board by about 20%, so to get 30k to a Monday Night game (that started before 6pm too) is a pretty solid effort.

5 pm start on a Friday is far from ideal, as are the other time slots mentioned for obvious reasons.

7pm or 8pm on a Friday WA time would be ideal no?

Plenty of games start in VIC and SA at 4pm/5pm on a Sunday, no reason why they couldn't also in WA.

Thursday and Monday night games are great for TV as a neutral
As fan of a team that has had a lot of Thursday night games they are s**t house

Very difficult to get to the game and home again at a reasonable hour for children or an early morning start the next day for work

But with a lot of the afl’s cash coming from advertising\tv deals that’s the trade off
Less fans attending these times lots but a bump in tv revenue

The reason why these timeslots need to be shared about, particularly in the 2 club markets.

I don't mind this as a regular fixture for Saturdays going into the future (if they have to overlap). Both the 3pm and 6pm game could be attractive to FTA (3pm for 7 and 9, 6pm for Ch10).

First things first, I'd bring back the 30 second break after goals instead of the current 50 seconds. I'd also cut quarter and three quarter time back to five minutes from six. If 21 goals are kicked for an entire game that should make the game 9 minutes shorter. I'd also bring in two more teams in 2025 to make a 20 team comp, so this is what I'd have;

If 7/9 get the sole rights (all times AEST):

Thursday night 7.40pm (main channel)

Friday night 7.40pm (MC)

Saturday 2.05pm (secondary channel)
Saturday 3.20pm (MC)
Saturday 4.50pm (SC)
Saturday 7.10pm (MC)
Saturday 7.35pm (SC)
7 or 9 can have a half hour news bulletin in SA/NT on Saturdays and show the news at HT of the Saturday night game in Perth.

Sunday 12.35pm (MC)
Sunday 3.20pm (MC)
Sunday 7.10pm (MC) - this game would usually be played in Perth due to time difference.
7 or 9 can have a half hour news bulletin in SA/NT on Sundays as well and show the news at HT of the Sunday night game in Perth.

If 7/9 have to share with a pay TV provider:
Thursday night 7.40pm (National FTA & paywall)

Friday night 7.40pm (NFTA & p/w)

Saturday 2.05pm (p/w)
Saturday 2.05pm (p/w)
Saturday 4.50pm (p/w)
Saturday 7.10pm (p/w)
Saturday 7.35pm (Vic FTA & p/w)
Obviously teams of states outside Victoria should still get their game on FTA in their home states, but if none are playing on Saturdays then they should get the latest Saturday game. The latest start on the Saturday is the game that should always get the most FTA exposure.

Sunday 12.35pm (p/w)
Sunday 3.20pm (VFTA & p/w)
Sunday 7.10pm (NFTA & p/w) - this game would usually be played in Perth due to time difference.
If a team from outside Victoria is playing at the Sunday 12.35 slot it would be shown on FTA in their state instead of the 3.20 game. If a state outside Victoria has both their teams playing on a Saturday then the Sunday night game is the only game shown on FTA on that state.

The idea behind this is that the three worst timeslots to attend a game out of those 10 (Thursdays, Fridays and Sunday nights) should always be compensated with nationwide FTA exposure. Playing games on Thursdays or Sundays will not work if they are completely paywalled).

If 10 get the sole rights:
Thursday night 7.35pm (Channel 10)

Friday night 7.35pm (10)
Channel 10 show their news at 5pm instead of 6pm, and don't have Home and away or ACA at 7pm, so it would be more likely they'd start their footy coverage on their main channel before 7.30pm on a weeknight, hence the idea for the slightly earlier start, however with Perth's time difference this would allow them to get a half hour news bulletin at 5pm on their main channel before the footy coverage.

Saturday 2.05pm (10 or 1)
Saturday 2.05pm (10 or 1)
Saturday 4.50pm (10 or 1)
Saturday 4.50pm or 7.35pm (10 or 1)
Saturday 7.35pm (10 or 1)
As Channel 10 don't have the obsession of lead in to the 6pm news that 7 or 9 would have, having four games simultaneous would allow all local market games to get the main channel and gives Channel 10 the flexibility to decide as the season goes on, without mucking around with the fixture (hopefully by 2025 there is no pandemic), rather than potentially having a dud game on the main channel and a potential game of the round on the secondary due to timeslot constraints.

Sunday 12.35pm (10)
Sunday 3.20pm (10)
Sunday 6.05pm (10) - this game would usually be played in Perth due to time difference.
The Sunday night game can start straight after the late afternoon game since Channel 10 aren't really that fussed with news.

If 10 has to share with a pay TV provider:
Thursday night 7:35pm (Nationally on 10 and paywall)

Friday night 7:35pm (N10 and p/w)

Saturday 2.05pm (p/w)
Saturday 2.05pm (p/w)
Saturday 4.50pm (p/w)
Saturday 6.40pm (p/w)
Saturday 7.35pm (Victoria 10 and p/w)
Obviously teams of states outside Victoria should still get their game on FTA in their home states, but if none are playing on Saturdays then they should get the latest Saturday game. The latest start on the Saturday is the game that should always get the most FTA exposure.

Sunday 12.35pm (p/w)
Sunday 3.20pm (V10 & p/w)
Sunday 6.10pm (N10 & p/w) - this game would usually be played in Perth due to time difference.

LOL.....TV audiences are noticeably less when there are TWO matches on at the same time. Let alone 5.

Your idea would drop averages by a massive amount. Never mind that Saturday afternoon games are dying because a lot more people now work on Saturdays. It's not the 80's anymore.
you might have a point there......

Back in the 1980s, Sydney Swans hosting games at the SCG on a sunday against big victorian clubs drew ratings.

in the 1990s, Friday night games gained traction.

If shared with STV?
The chances of any FTA having sole rights are effectively nil.
In the past, I'd have agreed with you. Now with streaming I'm less sure of Foxtel/Kayo being a necessity for a broadcast deal.

3 games on 9 FTA (Friday and 2x Sunday)
3 games on 10 FTA (Thursday and 2x Saturday)
3 games on Paramount+ or Stan Sport (2x Saturday and 1x Sunday or 3x Saturday)

Example Schedule:

Thursday 7.20pm (Ch10)

Friday 7.20pm (Ch9)

Saturday 1.45pm (Stan Sport)
Saturday 3.10pm (Ch10)
Saturday 4.35pm (Stan Sport)
Saturday 6.10pm or 7.25pm (Ch10)

Sunday 12.10pm (Stan Sport or Ch9)
Sunday 3.10pm (Ch9)
Sunday 6.10pm or 7.10pm (Stan Sport or Ch9)

The Sunday Stan Sport game (12.10pm or 6.10pm, as the other of the two will be on Ch9) can be moved to Saturday 7.25pm if needed.
