You can frame it any way you want to slag off the club but in my humble opinion, based on the last 2 coach sackings, they will not choose a first-time coach. Let's wait & see who they pick.

Well documented with Judds training wheels comments but we shouldn't have selected a first time coach last time after we'd had Bolton and the reset for 4-5 years - that was the mistake, not the sacking yesterday.

Unfortunately, bloody Teague came in an won 6-10 games and virtually made it impossible not to give him the role but it was primed for a Lyon or Brad Scott to takeover (from memory Scott was the favourite)

You could also argue the club hasn’t had luck with experienced “big name” coaches - Pagan / Malthouse.

The common denominator is they only followed a process once in the last group of coaches and that was to hire Bolton.

No process was followed for:

Pagan
Ratten
Malthouse
Teague
Lyon

They talk wanting to be an “elite” club but nothing seems to change.

All we have done thus far is sack the coach. You can spin it any other way you like. I say it again the root of the problem is still there!

Yep, agree. My opinion from watching Sayers is that he feels the list/players is/are say 70% there for argument's sake. They will want someone who has been there & done that to squeeze out the last 30%. They won't want a novice learning as he goes who could potentially stall them or even drag some of them backwards as DT did in some cases.

I also think they'll go for a seasoned coach because there seem to be player factions and cliques beyond natural friend groups & moving into bitching groups. All that needs to get flushed & everyone needs to work their arse off. More chance of that with a seasoned coach as well.

I would put a line through some of the try hard mid/small forward types: fisher, gibbons, fogarty. They are all cut of the same cloth. Only keep 1 of those 3, probably fogarty

I would keep more than one. Fisher still has upside and is one that Ross will get the absolute best out of him, think Walters.

Fog was a strange acquisition, I think he has limited impact factor as a forward, apart from his tackle pressure and when on ball, doesn't have enough zip considering his small stature, I see him similar to Gibbons, so maybe a call on one of these guys

If we take his comments on FC on face value, Dow, SPS, newnes are gone. LOB stays

That might change once he assumes the role. Not only will he judge the merits of each player, but how they can contribute to the side

See Dustin Martin, Marcus Bontempelli, Jack McRae, Luke Shuey, Patrick Cripps and 50 other midfielders for why you dont take midfielders and play them back pocket for numerous seasons. Stocker is playing well. When his physical capabilities allow it, give him midfield minutes. If he doesn't flourish, push him back and try again the following season. It's about progression and development. Not letting player stagnate.

How about Daniel Rich, where did he start his footy?

Stocker has played just over half a season and in that time we have been running Dow, Kennedy, Cripps, Curnow, Walsh, Fogarty, Fisher and even SPS in there.
Why can we not let Stocker find his feet where he is?

Playing kids in there too early is one of the reasons Bolton found himself out the door. Stocker has an entire career in front of him.

The slightest interest from another club and Kennedy will be gone. Free agent being paid minimum chips right now.

Doubt it. Played 13 games this year (including the last 10) so he knows there is an opportunity here for him.

Has also now spent 4 years at the club, so will have spent plenty of time and built relationships with those who we're clearly building around.

He won't just move for another contract that is similar to what we've offered. Sure, he'll probably look to move if there's an offer from elsewhere that blows ours out of the water, but the likelihood of that is slim to nil, and really that's no different to any other player anyway.

Yeah, plenty of mistakes there but Lyon has not been selected yet in my view.

Right or wrong, mentioned back in early July that Lyon would be the number 1 contender, not much has changed
Give it 3 or 4 weeks & they'll say to Clarkson - See Clarko, we didn't sack him because of you, we had our own reasons. You can totally take the job guilt-free now. Did we tell you it includes a hovercraft?

Going through a "process" for the senior coach can serve two purposes.

Even if Lyon is 98% locked in, there's still a slim chance that someone bobs up who absolutely blows us away.

And the interviews will give us an opportunity to canvass some quality assistants. Any of the names behind McRae for the Collingwood job, for example. Extra interview, bit more feedback, and if we like any of them (but not enough to overtake Ross) then we can go back with a "Look, we're going another direction for the senior spot, but we really loved how you presented X, Y and Z - would you consider coming over as an assistant".

Also good to get all candidates views on list, game plans etc
