An important element of a coaching selection process is providing the autonomy to build their own coaching team.

How do you know the coaches you're hiring know have the skills and background to complement the incoming Head Coach?

They shouldn't be yes men for the head coach. If the coach has selected his buddies for the roles beneath him this is big possibility.

Didn't sound like he had zero interest. Sounded like he was just sticking to his plan to take ti.e off with the family and reassess his future.
Spoke very well and can't hold a grudge for that.

It's not unpopular at all, I agree with you.

He needs time out to recharge and then he will know if he wants to go again, I was looking to Lyon getting the gig exactly for those reasons.

If you look at the coaches out there, if you have your choice of anyone who would you take ??

Hardwick or Longmire would be the ones I see as walk-up starts, all the rest of them have some kinks in their armoury.

Neither of those two were available, Lyon pulled out of the race & we don't know if Pyke was interested at all so the field for an experienced coach was pretty thin. Given we had just had two first-timers, it was imperative we didn't go down that path again too.

I think Voss will be okay if he is given the resources & back-up which I'm pretty sure the club is hellbent on doing now.

If you've run a rigorous process to select a Head Coach, yet you don't trust him enough to empower him to build his own team around him, your process is a failure...

edit: ok just read that he walks to the Blues. And saying $1.8m for 4 years. Not too bad then. You get him for free and he can play a role for you guys. Won't be a match winner but role players equally important.

I’ve got no doubt that these Carlton ITKs were told Clarko is coming. It sounds like the typical Carlton arrogance and bravado, delusions from a bygone era when the club actually had some power and influence. I’m sure many connected to the club thought they’d get him.
