Would we look at Luke Dunstan for depth as a mid ? And cheap

If we nab Hewett and Cerra and retain Dow, see little need for Dunstan.

Wants to go to Ess*. More likely to end up at GC.

Considering half our coaching staff have been sacked and Lloyd is probably on his way out too. I am confident we did not keep up our end.
Can't say I agree fully there. But you're a strong poster so I will allow it this one time.

Am interested in Brander but would keep that separate from any deal with SPS if possible. He'll be a free agent and we'll get him for nothing if we're keen.

Would look at draft pick(s) for SPS and Brander for free on top of that.

We've been pick poor for a while so good to replenish the stocks and get some draft capital happening.

I should know better than to do this, but a while, being one draft?

Brander can football. And if there's one team where there's no shame in not being able to crack the 22 as a tall, it's West Coast.

He's 195 cm, from Bendigo, so probably even ticks the magical "supported Carlton growing up" box. People talk about backup for an ageing Liam Jones: look no further.

I am bummed the Petrevski-Seton wants out. But Jarrod Brander would be a one good way to turjn this sow's ear into a silk purse. If there are steak knives as well, so much the better, but a straight swap would be a decent/fair(ish) outcome. I'd be happy, anyway.
Gotta ask tho, why are WC getting rid of him without anything coming in return if he can Football?

Expected. Wasted across HB and if he wasn’t going into the midfield, he needed to go. I can totally understand why he would be fed up or want to leave. I have a fair few reservations with Samo, so I’m not that annoyed or upset that he’s going. And I wish he finds consistency in his game else where. It’s what we get back that will be that main problem here. Would suggest we explore all avenues with their list and look for a win-win. All the best to him.

Fed up? Eveyone blames the coaches but maybe he needs to take a good hard look at himself?

He cant run all day, doesnt apply pressure nor lay a tackle, he is so far from a decent mid that its not even funny. If the guy worked hard enough, got super fit, put on weight then maybe he would make the cut as a mid.

Realise SPS has been polarising for many on here - but I for one am extremely disappointed to see this happen. Career and confidence was absolutely butchered by Teague and I was really looking forward to seeing him under a new coach. Hopefully we can mend the bridge and he stays.

Have the feeling he will dominate under a good coach.

Where did they say that's what they were doing?

Haven't offered him a contract, intend to try and facilitate a trade, and Brander himself/his management have suggested if a trade can't be manufactured that he'll probably hit the draft.

Bit flat, but unsurprised.

Samo's gotta do what's best for his career, and on balance that's find a new home somewhere else, and a side with a somewhat aging midfield and a fair draft hand/wantaway tall is a good landing spot.

I think SPS has shown more than Brander, is only 1 year older with around 70 more senior games to his name. A straight swap would appear to favour WC pretty heavily, especially as they're effectively showing Brander the door by not offering him a contract (whether we're doing the same to SPS, I'm not sure).

SPS for Brander and ~29 would be something I could probably accept., maybe a future pick sweetener for WC as well
Flick 6 for Cerra, straight up.
Then package our 25 and 29 to WB for 17 and a future pick/pick swap.

OUT: 6, 25 and SPS
IN: Cerra, Brander, 17 (Wanganeen-Milera is one I think looks good here)
FA: Hewett
I'd take that, but I don't know if WC would accept losing a player they haven't delisted yet in Brander and pick 29 for an OOC mid who's nominated.

SPS = Cerra + Brander is an excellent result, if it has to happen.

They aren't. It's posturing and an idle threat.

If a team was interesting, why risk drafting him and going early or missing out, when they can guarantee they get him for a known trade value.

Let’s off load McGovern to west coast whilst we are at it

I don't know how we can offload a contracted player, who is on big money, but playing about as good as me (I retired after Under 16s). Even if we paid some of his wage I'd be surprised if we'd get any takers. Maybe see what a new coach can do with him? If that doesn't work, put him in a cannon, sell tickets and fire him down Lygon Street - I'd pay to see that.

SPS was tried in the middle, then to save his career was tried down back and that didn't work either. To be fair his position down back is the easiest in the game - play loose, run in straight lines and hit 20-30m passes; if you can't do that with his sort of attributes then something is off.

He had plenty of chances. He has tools but it means nothing without the intensity and desire that is required - AFL is brutal, talent alone just doesn't cut it anymore, hasn't for a while now actually.

I wish him well, seems like a ripper bloke but I'm not cursing our development team for this one.

Rampar, I have no idea if he’s fed up, but I’m saying if he were coz he’s played out of position, I get that he wants to do his job in a particular spot.

You’re right. When SPS played midfield, he didn’t take it with both hands whatsoever and showcase what he could do. There’s just over a handful of games as a sample where we could probably say that’s what a midfielder with his ability should be doing. Apart from his tackling (only a strong suit for SPS when he is wanting to work hard) and evasiveness in small spaces where he is very agile, he does not provide a lot of confidence in other traits. At all. If Samo was a player at pick 30 when we took him, I’d say a lot would have different perspective. But because of the value of where we took him, this is seen as the clubs fault etc etc.

He is as much at fault and his work ethic on game day is questionable time and time again. Cut the losses, and as some one said, maximise the trade and move on. Agree 100%

This ‘SPS was played out of position’ narrative falls short IMO.

We gave him every opportunity over three and a half years to develop into a decent mid, he continued to underwhelm and showed little improvement since he was drafted and was only moved into defence in his 4th year after again lacking the output you’d expect of a midfielder.

Then there’s the other aspects. He was unfit, slow, opted to choose basic, conservative options constantly. Rarely extended with his kicking despite being a technically beautiful kick and turned it over far too frequently for the kind of kicks he was trying to execute.

His attack on the ball was poor. He was inconsistent. Nothing about the way he played gave me the impression he was being misused, as he was his own worst enemy with his lack of effort. He actually looked comfortable in defence because he could just read the ball coming in and sweep up. Being one of the best loose ball accumulators in 2020 says a bit.

Happy to give Teague his due, but SPS’ underwhelming stint at Carlton is in no way on him.

I'm not gonna sh*t on SPS because he wants to leave, tbh, I don't blame him.

Completely let down by our we used and played him, and he's been in and out of the team constantly.

Get the deal done, you don't want blokes at your club that don't wanna be there - hopefully it's a fair one, and keep it moving.

Apparently the issue at the Eagles is the salary cap. (Which suggests that the Petrevski-Seton move is not about money, but we probably already knew that.)

But it must be very tight there. Brander is a four-year player, outside their 22, but they don't have the coin? Maybe you're right, maybe there is more to it.
