Be weird if they told him he's out of the running. He's presenting to the selection committee tomorrow.

Not much response to this post considering your podcasts link to Kingsley confirms to me without a doubt that Voss has not yet been locked in.

This is huge news, belongs in the no discussion thread.

This might be one of those rare cases.

West Coast's cap situation is perilous. SPS could be forced to take massive unders on a backended deal to get home.
To specifically nominate West Coast, I strongly suspect that his manager has already confirmed not only that they want him but what the contract would look like. Otherwise I'd recommend SPS get a new manager.

Having said that, I want SPS to stay. I'd like to see what he can do under a new set of coaches. I think our best chance of a turnaround is a discussion with the new head coach. It's looking unlikely though. I found it odd that the quote from Lloyd did not indicate any disappointment or that we wanted to keep him

Weirdly aggressive but ok. Yes, I think that looking at Yze’s resume he’d be someone we’d want to interview. Given he’s involved in the GF and would rightly be focused on that, and that interviewing him after that would only be a week from now, it’s a poor reflection on the process that it could potentially be concluded without assessing him, if he was interested.

However it seems that the overriding criteria for this appointment is prior experience, successful or not.

my 4yo runs through a more rigorous process with his hot wheels tournaments than this selection process.

And how do you know the club has not spoken to Yze?

Looking for the "congratulations Luke Power - afl assistant coach of the year" thread. Can anyone show me the way?

Will be interesting to see if sps can crack into the west coasts midfield of gaff, sheed, yep and redden. Think he will be up against it but on the other hand his manager may have already discussed his desire to play more midfield and wce agreed.

I think wce will need a refresh and some talent is getting very old. Perhaps this is a good bet for 2023-onwards for him.

Also interesting that McQualter may have been spoken to in regards to senior role by our panel and is/was one of those Lyon planned to bring.

Cook would know how Grigg is going. Probably need at least one younger assistant to balance soft cap. I'd look at Nathan Jones as another option.
Tigers also keen on Chaplain for defensive role. Currently with Dees? Voss would have connection from Port and Cook would know if Scarlett worth chasing.
Soft cap is for poor people

While not in context of returning to home state, IINM I can think of 2 instances a long while ago in which something similar happened; Andrew Walker to Adelaide; and, Thornton to Hawks. Both changed their mind and re-signed after CFC refused to trade them. i think in both instances, players were OOC.
Did Carlton publicly say they'd work with the requested club and player management to facilitate the trade in those instances?

…and even then, home is some 2,600km from the club. Home state, sure, but you’d think the benefits of being inside WA regarding interstate travel shouldn’t be an ongoing issue like it is now once we (australia) hit the vaccination targets in the national plan.

Not trying to argue for the sake of it, but Melbourne is almost as close to Halls Creek as Perth is. Hardly going home.

He did board in a Perth for a few years, but has lived in Melbourne longer.

Getting to halls creek though isn't just about distance.

Flying to halls creek from Victoria probably requires you to fly to Perth. and then through a few smaller regional airports in WA. whereas if you're in Perth you're already half way there.

Walker definitely nearly ended up in SA.

I remember when Thornton and Russell were out of contract and tried to leave. We had finished last and threatened to pick them up in the PSD. They both re-signed. Of course we could have only picked one of them up but neither called our bluff.

I did find a failed trade for Walker to Port though. Port didn't have the currency to make it happen. That's more of a Dunkley situation and Port stated that they knocked it back.

Yes, west coasts main midfield talent seems to fit in the 28+ bracket, whilst most of those looking to fill the positions are under 21, SPS has a nice gap he can fill in their age profile
