Why is everyone getting fired up about Clark? He's shown nothing. All that Zuthrie bashing about how skinny he was, Clark has the body of a 14 year old reclusive gamer.

Clark is fast, that's all he offers. He's also very soft (read: scared). The last time he had 20 or more disposals was round 16 two years ago. Give me p27 any day.

What's his deal? Has he been injured or barely can get a game?

Exactly, we don't need to accept unders when he is contracted. Stiff luck.

Hawkins would've been a Top 4 draft pick had he not been a Father Son. SavRat is a top bush footballer in comparison.
Watched Tommy destroy Gumbleton before the draft, Gumbleton went at (2) 3 iirc. On the open market he would’ve went one in front of Gibbs no doubt.

That's fine but when you see players like Kolo do the same brain dead errors week in week out that cost multiple goals and are not dropped, well you lose any faith. Henderson first final, he must of given up close to 5 goals from very basic errors. Was he dropped? Can't have one rule for some and not others

We have no experienced defenders and you wanted to drop Henderson because he played poorly in a game we lost by 7 goals and conceded 60 inside 50s? Right.

Posted this in another thread, re: Wells and his 'poor' drafting record of late, and thought I'd post it here too, as it's probably more relevant:

***************************************************************************************************************

The past 5 years (3 ticks for A grader/future A grader, 2 ticks for solid/ B grader, 1 tick for a pass mark vs draft position, no rating for still to be decided, a cross for a fail):

2016

Pick 26 - Brandan Parfitt :whitecheck::whitecheck:
Pick 40 - Tom Stewart :whitecheck::whitecheck::whitecheck:
Pick 43 - Esava Ratugolea :whitecheck:
Pick 60 - Quinton Narkle :whitecheck:
Pick 68 - Timm House :crossmark:
Pick 69 - Ryan Abbott :crossmark:
Rookie Pick 16 - Jack Henry :whitecheck::whitecheck::whitecheck:
Rookie Pick 33 - Zach Guthrie :whitecheck:
Rookie Pick 48 - Jamaine Jones :crossmark:
Rookie Pick 53 - Sam Simpson :whitecheck::whitecheck:
Cat B Rookie - Mark O'Connor :whitecheck::whitecheck:

2017

Pick 22 - Lachie Fogarty :crossmark:
Pick 24 - Tim Kelly :whitecheck::whitecheck::whitecheck:
Pick 36 - Charlie Constable :crossmark: (still to this day don't understand why we didn't pick Worpel as the Geelong Falcons captain, with this pick)
Pick 57 - Gryan Miers :whitecheck::whitecheck:
Rookie Pick 16 - Stewart Crameri :crossmark:
Rookie Pick 30 - Matthew Hayball :crossmark:

2018

Pick 15 - Jordan Clark :whitecheck: (hasn't been awful, yet hasn't had enough exposure/time to show his true wares yet IMO - will also net us a decent'ish pick in return)
Pick 48 - Ben Jarvis :crossmark:
Pick 50 - Jacob Kennerley :crossmark:
Pick 65 - Darcy Fort :crossmark:
Pick 68 - Jake Tarca :crossmark:
Pick 74 - Oscar Brownless :crossmark:
Rookie Pick 11 - Tom Atkins :whitecheck::whitecheck:
Cat B Rookie - Stefan Okunbor :wavydash: (remains to be seen)
Cat B Rookie - Blake Schlensog :crossmark:

2019

Pick 16 - Cooper Stephens :wavydash: (remains to be seen, but still wish we'd picked Dev Robertson instead of letting ourselves be so soured by the TK situation and going the local kid over the better talent)
Pick 19 - Sam De Koning :whitecheck::whitecheck: (will be a star, and is developing very nicely - could become A grade)
Pick 41 - Francis Evans :whitecheck: (seen enough to think that he'll make it)
Rookie Pick 14 - Brad Close :whitecheck::whitecheck:

*Lachie Henderson and Oscar Brownless not included as rookie selections/re-drafting, as not new players on our list

2020

Pick 20 - Max Holmes :whitecheck::whitecheck::whitecheck: (kid will be a superstar, and have seen enough in both his VFL and AFL games to know that he'll be rated amongst the Top 10 from this draft in years to come - you don't get 3 BOG's in the VFL and play in the finals in a stacked side ahead of more seasoned depth, if you're not something special)
Pick 33 - Shannon Neale :wavydash: (remains to be seen, but signs are good thus far)
Pick 47 - Nick Stevens :wavydash: (same as Neale)
Cat B Rookie - Paul Tsapatolis :wavydash: (some good signs, but still very, very raw)

**********************************

All in all, we could have done much, much worse had we drafted badly in 2016 and 2019. As it stands, I'd give it a 'B' for drafting, with an A+ for 2016, a B for 2019 and 2020, and a D for 2018. Not bad all things considering, and evidence that things drafting wise haven't been as bad as people have made out.

Yeah Clark 3 years younger 2cm shorter but a kg heavier.

What a ridiculous argument. Clark played that game on a wing and was absolutely putrid when he got it. Zuthrie plays a defensive role in a back pocket. Also, in that same round 21 game Zuthrie still had 15 disposals anyway.

Kolodjashnij had 8 disposals in the preliminary final, Jeremy Cameron only had 4 - therefore Kolo is better than Jezza.

I agree with you but in fairness to the other arguement- Clarke was drafted as a back man- was a rising star nomination in the backline - why the **** is he on the wing!!

There has to be more to it.Explain this
RD 21 v GWS on 66% game time Clark has 18 disposals 5 tackles and is dropped.
A few weeks later against GWS Zuthrie on 80% game time has 7 disposals 3 tackles and is retained.
This is the crap that's grinding my gears with the Cats under this current mob.
If the "few weeks later" game you're referencing for Zuth is the semifinal, he actually only had 54% TOG, coming in the second quarter after Parfitt was subbed out with a hamstring injury

Zuth also played predominantly a defensive first match in the semifinal and it was Tuohy who was shifted up to the wing in an attacking role

I don't really get the comparison between Clark playing on the wing in an attacking role versus Zuth playing a defensive minded game

Thanks for putting this together - fascinating! I think you could argue Jones was a tick - a rookie getting a contract extension at his second club- Wells can only draft rookies on potential and Jones has remained in system

Even Gardiner has managed to hang in there and played in a pre lim..

Except he didn't get his rising star nomination playing in defence, he got it after his move to the wing - he was nominated in round 15 and had spent a couple of months playing on the wing by that stage

If he stayed in defence, not sure he would have got a rising star nomination

You are correct about the game time onground my bad,but I wasn't trying to compare the two players only the inconsistency in the selectors response to different players contributions surly we can agree some get a rails run while others don't get a look in.

There actually isn't a fair comparison to be made here.

Suits the 'ignorance and ineptitude' narrative about our M.C. that has its devotees around here, though.

We should face it that we went all in and the game plan (and team spirit when under the pump in two final thrashings), were found short enough of the mark that there is no factual support to think we may win in 22 (home and away form is only a qualifier - I'm talking about the finals, our current opponents and the improvement in no doubt of severval teams next year Swans, Tigers) to top 4 ish level). We also have little draft capital to rebuild with low risk. So, we are faced with rolling the dice with whatever we can salvage out of our poor management of our youngsters born out of this all in to win thing.
I think the exact position we are in is a rebuild but we are damned this year to betting on picks in the 30,40 and 50's to produce some high end talent. That is the price right there. The Tigers, for example this year have a big and low risk hand to kick back up again with an elite young group that will forever have our young group well covered potentially. This is the conundrum.

Tigers youth is surprisingly good. I really like the balance of talent.

A Graders: Short 25. Balta 21. Bolton 22. Baker 23. Graham 23.
Potential A graders: Soldo 25. Stack 21.
Above Average: Rioli 24.
Haven't seen enough: Garthwaite, Mansell, Martin, Collier-Dawkins, Dow, Cumberland and Ralphsmith.

Compare that to us.

A Graders: Henry 23.
Potential A Graders: SDK 20, Holmes 19, Parfitt 23. Clarke (for another two weeks).
Above average: Esava 23, Close 23, O'Connor 24, Miers 22, Zuthrie 23, Simpson 23.
Haven't seen enough: Stephens 20, Neale 19, Tsitsapas 19, Stevens 19, Evans 20.
Jury out: Narkle 23. Constable 23.

Doesn't make for great reading for mine. So much riding on Stephens to add to our potential A grade list.

Wise decision from Lachie. Really wasn't getting it done by the time finals rolled around this year.

Always given his all for the club whenever he's been out there. More than that, he's been a great clubman and I'm really glad he got the lifeline way back when. His last couple of years have been very serviceable for a player whose time was supposedly 'up'.

Cheers, Hendo.

Nope. The quote at the time was, "if he wasn't going F/S to Geelong, Hawkins would have been the fastest #1 pick ever read out".
The fact every single person in Australia knew he was going to Geelong meant he was involved in no first pick discussions. Straight into the Vic Metro team from school footy, Larke Medal, he was clearly the best kid in the land though.
