I agree..talia is an option for that..or hartley maybe another? If we elevate close and atkins and delist oscar we will have 4 rookie slots so id be fairly happy to use 2 of them for a mature key defender and a mature backup ruck.
Hartley feels an obvious recruit to me on the rookie list astounded at the lack of footy he has played, built like a tank only 28 and is a super kick of the footy.

I honestly thought we should have gone out and replaced Taylor, the problem is even more profound now we have Henderson retiring, needs to be addressed if we expect to compete with the best sides.
Alex Keath or similar would have allowed Blitz to remain ruck/wing rotating with Stanley. Was a huge weapon we just threw away.

Unless we add a Ladhams type we are going to need Blicavs to be able to spend plenty of time in the Ruck, leaves us way undermanned down back and is a core reason why Id be astounded if we didn't look to top up.

And Port has said he won't come cheaply. Ladhams is still contracted
They said he can explore his options one moment and the next they are playing hard ball, its one or the other surely, expect they fold like a deck of cards late in the trade period, Sam Hayes is just as good of a prospect as Ladhams.

Yep...people are not going to realise how much we miss hendo until next year when hes gone. Weve basically had 3 experienced big bodied kpds every year since 2007 and next year will be the first year we dont (until we trade someone in).

You may be right, but I think we'll need to reserve that judgement until a fair way into next season. Things are not always as they seem.

- Henry developed at a faster rate this year than perhaps a lot in here thought. Along with Stewart, we potentially have 2x AA quality (or close) defenders in that back 6. Both attacking - and both rebound with good leg speed.

- SDK might come along a bit quicker than some think as well. I'm sure that will be a huge focus for the club over pre-season. I think someone like James Kelly might be a really smart person (and a calming influence) for our back 6 - compared to the Scarlett style.

- Blicav's was close to AA playing predominately as a defender a few years ago. With Henderson gone I think he'll be stationed at FB most weeks (subject to opposition match -ups). I think his footy will benefit from locking down a specific role for most of the year. And it will benefit the team.

- Yes, we might set up differently down back in 2022 - but that doesn't automatically translate to us being any worse a defensive unit. You could mount an argument to say this year, our strength (down back) almost got exposed as a weakness. Geelong were very "same same" in defence for along time. Sides knew we'd go in tall, and they picked teams to exploit that. Richmond, Melbourne, Port have shown that in more recent times.

I think if we're really honest in our assessment of Henderson's last season - he was very solid when he got the right match up. But when he didn't / or when opposition coaches were able to isolate his match up and have the ball come in quick, and with "Richmond like" chaos ball (like the Port final) he was a major liability.

It is not back up coverage, it is actual coverage as otherwise our tall defenders are Blics and SDK.
And that is what I want to see. SDK was an AA kpd. Throw him in, it's the only way he will learn. Enough of sacrificing our future by giving games to guys who are completely cooked come finals. It's a complete waste of time. What is the point of going after a guy who's been injured for over a year? He probably won't even get on the park.

Herald Sun reporting Geelong are trying to trade a package of picks to get inside the top 10.

Only way we could do that is involving a future 1st which would be a big call. The R2s plus clark will get us into the 13-20 range but top 10 costs more.

Kreuger and 32 or 34 for their future 2nd would be nice.
It’s like when you walk into the casino and bet on black on the roulette wheel and lose. So you immediately increase the initial bet to cover and go again bc it couldn’t possible happen twice.

We deferred and bet on Essendon and GWS giving us picks #22 and #25 this year. Now we are going to go 3rd time lucky with the same capital + Krueger with Collingwood and hope it comes up black.

What’s the interest in future picks ahead of 2021 picks? We will have at least 4-5 list spots to fill and will need picks to fill them.
I think you'd be looking at a projected downgrade for the future picks. Kids next year will see a lot more football, players that never got picked up in the last 2 will start to show a bit in state leagues. I know I said this last year but the next draft should be deeper by virtue of having the guys not selected this year in it.

I think it's more that we should pick the number of players we want from this draft and keep picks that match. Trade out anything that's surplus to requirements. Don't see huge value in trying go up the order in this one.

I dont think people have done the math.
If we elevate close and atkins (which the club hasnt announced yet but i expect we will) then we only have 1 senior list spot (and 3 cat a rookie spots) or 4 senior spots if we trade clark kreuger and fort. But we already have 4 picks inside 3 rounds. Say you get a 20-30 pick for clark and 50-60 picks for kreuger and fort thats still 7 picks you hold and only 4 slots to use them. Yes you could delist someone like CC (and maybe re rookie him) but the numbers are tight-the best way to fix this is trade 2 or 3 of our R2s for one higher pick or one current pick and a future pick.

Plus the turnover is likely to be even greater next year..off the top of my head selwood higgins dahlhaus fort (if he doesnt go now) will surely go..any of rohan tuohy hawk and smith are old enough that they could..narkle clark CC would all be prime delist candidates. Yes you can fill spots with FAs but it makes sense to spread our picks across 2 years in case we have a big turnover next year.

Also if covid eases next year you could have a draft crop then in which its much easier to rate and rank the talent than this year.

We have heard this scenario before, clubs want to see us fall and wont help us by giving us a top 10 pick, forget it. As usual HS talking BS with no actual substance.
