Dumont will struggle to find a spot if we don't renew.

Slow workhorses that lack significant weapons are pretty much obsolete in the current landscape.

It's just how it is.

Nothing personal as he has a great football brain and I'm a big fan of a pure footballer, but the game is all about speed and athleticism.

Yeah, he's the prototype circa 2013-2015 Brad Scott defensive winger but the game has changed a lot in the last 5 years and his type just don't fit the mold anymore. He's good enough for depth but for a rebuilding team keeping him for depth is kinda pointless.

If he was holding out, his manager needs a kick up the arse for failing to read the room.

You clearly have no clue and no respect for our players.

Go barrack for Carlton - they love your approach. No culture, no loyalty, no development ,no progress for 20 years or so.

The new regime is tough but not stupid. In fact, sustaining our age demographic is part of their strategy. Players time will come but you don't disrespect you heart and soul players.

You could just say you disagree with my opinion rather than this rubbish lol

Being naturally pushed out is fine but Dumont is still best 22 and is the exact role model we need to teach, mentor and bring these guys through. Training standards, two way defensive running, running patterns, selflessness, culture etc don't automatically arrive with new draftees.

Also - if you demand loyalty and buy-in - you need to live those team values.

Regarding skills - you need a blend and you need experience and smarts - that can compete with speed.

Balance.

We finished bottom of the table we are no where near the position to do this regardless of the potential coming through
Why not? Footy wizard’s point is well made: Dumont offers very little as a wingman and, on exposed form as a 26-y-o, his upside is negligible. Powell, Lazzaro etc have a much higher ceiling in that position. He’s been a good servant, Trent, but we ain’t going anywhere as a club if he’s holding down a spot in the midfield. Ditto Atley in defence.

I don't like posts that disrespect our players that have committed their heart soul to our club.

That's what rubbish looks like.

You can have an opinion without denigrating our players.

Agreed with a lot of what you say.

None of those admirable traits negate the limitations though.

I'm not sure if we are too worried about letting Trent go given his axing from the leadership group this year to be honest.

What a ridiculous response; thought this was a forum for exchanging ideas …

Not to mention he's a free agent and has little to no interest from other clubs. Even his home town crows who and crying out for mids aren't Interested. Averaging 17 touches a game on a wing isn't gonna cut it.
Hopefully polec gets fit again and takes one wing. We have more than enough options who would be much better than Dumont.
Been a good servant foggy and no disrespect, but just because your 26 and have played 100 games doesn't give you a free ride.

Yeah, its just about balance and timing I think. Clearly we have some great guys coming through so Frog will get overtaken before long. Currently he is best 22 and adds leadership etc. One of very few and we are injury prone.

So instead of having a convo about where we think it's at....you claim you hate people shitting on our players....then you turn on a fellow supporter and shit on him. *mind blown*

He'll get a year if we go with that assessment is my tip.

So hard to tell isn't it.

The club seems to creating and exploring options out of the box!! CCJ, Lynch thing, this Gold Coast player/pick swap - hard to know how many spots we will need if these thing come off and more opportunities too good to pass pop up. Talk of Polec speaking with Tigers, Us looking to trade in pick 4 or 3

So many moving parts.

Yep.

We're in full rebuild mould after just finishing last.

It's to be expected we are exploring all options.

If you're long term fringe, you're probably in trouble.

Brayshaw had a pretty good grand final. Just saying....

How is saying we need to move past fringe, scrubbers (for want of a better term)not a completely unremarkable statement in a trade thread?

We finished 18th, we are no good.

I think you need to understand the difference between a statement of fact and the denigration of long term servants.

I’m of the opinion, with his level of ability with ball in hand, we are better off going for the faster, more athletic, line breaking type who shanks a few rather than the slow, cumbersome bloke who to my eyes, is essentially a square peg in a round hole.

It would be nice, if we were the ones with the weapons trying to be stopped - for once.

With Thomas, Horne, LDU, Powell etc we will shortly be the danger.

He is border line best 22 after circa 8 years in the system. We need to create opportunities for our young mids. Froggy has given his all and has been one of our better endurance runners but it’s time the club moved on. Hope he gets a go elsewhere.

Unfortunately when you finish 17th & 18th the last 2 seasons , not much better before that & embark on a full scale rebuild. You will get those type of decisions & player losses along the way.
2-3 from last season Jmac , Maj etc Dumont & Atley this season .
Unfortunately our fans need to realise that without these hard sensitive decisions we cannot head forward .
We know what we were / are getting with these players but we don’t with the kids . I said it before , I rather give a chance to 2-3 kids , let them learn , heck up & get experience than keep playing guys that would struggle getting a game in any other club .
It’s a tough bloody industry. Do you think most recently, it did not kill the GoDees fans to see Nathan Jones not pick up a flag ? But No , the GoDees chose not to select Him in benefit of what we are all here for as players & members. (To win the flag) . The GoDees not only picked their best possible in form side for that flag but also sent a strong message to the youngest players in that team . The Kozy’s , Bowie’s etc … of what a privilege it is to be representing your team ahead of a 300+ gamer watching it from home .
How do you think these guys felt running out on GF day with that in mind ?
That is the exact level & professionalism we should aim for each & every day from now on at our club .
No more cellar dwellers, & let’s win the flag .

Dumont is really a victim of circumstances imo.

He had a decent/good season last year, value was probably at a high level (relative to now). Got injured in preseason, kind of faded into obscurity for a bit, and could tell he didn’t come back as fit as possible (maybe we rushed him back due to the serious need for senior bodies at the time).

He did a job, not to the best extent, but probably to the extent that if he did it on a team in the top 8, ie. Hewett for Sydney (slightly different but same qualities), Brayshaw for Melbourne, he’d have some value.

All the top 8 teams either don’t play with a defensive winger in their gameplan or already have one like Dumont. All the middling teams he brings nothing to, and the bottom teams would rather pick up younger players.

He’s good enough, he’s shown it, but he might just end up being one of those hard luck stories.

What is the story with Dumont feeling out trades over at least the last couple of seasons, and by moving out of the leadership group. He probably hasn't been a happy camper for a little while. Maybe similar to Tarrant.
