A slightly different account, but still lacking in timeline or details (for operational reasons obviously) on the series of events around the arrest of the accused.

'detectives revealed more details about what they knew about the man they think abducted Cleo and how that led to his arrest.

“When we left for the day on the Tuesday, some of us started to settle into the night about what was going to happen,” Detective Senior Sergeant Cameron Blaine said.

“In terms of that decision it wasn’t that hard, because we talk about all the different scenarios.

“What happened was one of those scenarios — it was clear in my head what had to occur so it was OK, let’s do that.”

Four officers went into the Carnarvon house, while another four closed in while in a car. The suspect was in the car alone.'

'Police also discounted wild speculation that there have been a second child in the house at the time'

Meanwhile reports of a brief tussle with Police upon the accused's arrest and the arrest and rescue described as almost simultaneous.

'It is understood there was a brief tussle as he was taken into custody. Almost simultaneously, Cleo was introducing herself to the police who had been searching for her for 18 days.'

I want to know what a 'brief tussle' means ....

What did they want to spear you for ?
They were going away for the day to play footy in the nearest town, about 170kms away. His son hadn't been to school enough and he turned up and I said he couldn't go to footy because of low attendance. He went back home and told his dad and his dad came rushing over with a spear. He threatened to rip my guts out but luckily the Principal saw what was happening, came out and managed to calm things down.

Confirmed then, it's the right person with the Bratz collection.

I've often wondered why when in this day and age when we can "find my iPhone" with an app, why is there not something with a tiny chip that can be worn by children and tracked by their parents, eg something like a medi alert bracelet, I reckon most parents of young children would invest, not just to protect from kidnapping but losing in shopping centres, wandering off etc. Would be a nightmare for potential kidnappers.

This whole doll fetish thing is just too creepy for words, I don't know a five year old that obsessed with dolls.

Bratz are for ten to eighteen year old age group, there's also male Bratz dolls so I wonder if he has those as well.

If you can't see that the photo is very badly photoshopped and the bandage brightened and enhanced to the size of a turban and the blanket the officer is holding is a very strange shape then the inability is misplaced.

The alien sitting behind him also doesn't make sense.

Has the Daily Mail been reading BigFooty again?

The Police response today to questions about their being a 'toy room' in the accused's house was

'Earlier on Thursday, Detective Senior Sergeant Cameron Blaine said police were not yet in a position to confirm reports of a toy room and the man's alleged fascination with dolls.

'I think I've said the lights were on and she was playing with toys,' he said. 'That's about all I want to say. This is still a matter that needs to go before the courts.

'There are certain aspects of what we saw, you know, that is going to be evidence and I really don't want to say anything that is going to prejudice that.''

'Security cameras perched on the walls outside the house where Cleo Smith was found could have captured vital evidence about her abduction.'

'One CCTV camera was seen next to what appeared to be a blacked-out window to the right of the front door, facing towards the driveway.
Another security camera sits at the side of the home, which is accessed through a side gate, and faces towards the backyard.
However, it is unclear if the cameras are in working order.'

I wonder if there were any cameras inside the house that he or others used to watch his dolls remotely when he was away from home?

Totally correct about race, but if it was a 50 year old male catholic, I am sure the media would not be withholding his identity for this long. Us little people are on a needs to know basis.
It's difficult to keep issues of race off this thread, particularly when prominent social commentators are weighing in on it and headlining in mainstream media but it doesn't really belong in here.

I'm not going to be too hard on anybody but let's not get distracted by it, the offenders race has no direct bearing on the crime that was committed.

Creepy it maybe - but I guess we should in some small way be thankful that this disturbed individual simply wanted a live doll to take care of (loosely speaking), otherwise we'd now be likely talking about where they found Cleo's remains..!

I wonder if hes a bit like Michael Jackson, someone that just really wants to hang out with kids but not hurt them
One of the Bratz's FB vids had a filter on his pic (the one with the pink hearts adorning his head) that had him looking a bit like a pudgy faced Jackson.

We should be getting something on charges soon?

The relieved parents of little Cleo Smith still don’t know exactly what happened to their daughter over the 18 days she was missing — in an effort to make sure the little girl’s potential evidence is not tainted.

Specialist child interview officers flew into Carnarvon today, and will speak to the four-year-old about her ordeal for as long as they can — and as long as they need to.

"One of the social media accounts followed Cleo's mother Ellie Smith, where she begged for help finding her missing four-year-old girl.... "

Love to know if the WA Police checked the social media accounts, given the whole "stalker" thing that was going on for a while. Would also love to know how many social media accounts were following Ellie Smith in the first place.

I must be old but it's weird to me that people accept friend requests and followers from people they don't know.
