Gryan at #57 in 2017 was highlighted by Fox Footy tonight as one of the best draft steals in recent years. ‘17 wasn’t a total bust.

Fair enough forgot about him tbh. I remember on the night though many were really keen on the Constable and Fogarty selections as sliders. It was a very Un-Wells like draft where we seemed to go more conventional (even Kelly as a mature ager was tipped to go inside 30)

Dearly hope I’m wrong but I think we’ll look back on this draft in 4 years as a wasted opportunity. More than happy to have egg on my face if I’m wrong.

I don’t have an issue so much with the first 3 selections as to where they were taken. Having said that I think we could have made better choices in each.

Conway is the most likely to succeed. Interesting choice though with all the tall talent earmarked for next years draft. But we know that Swells loves to defy the norms.

Tbh, I struggle to understand how any one of us could possibly know. The available vision of these draftees this year has been so sparse.
I trust the talent scouts we have.
I know one year I actually emailed SWells about prospects I had seen in our local TAC team, and he sincerely thanked me, and any supporter who wants to help, and was aware of those kids a season before I had seen them. None have been selected by any team. Shows what I know.
My only personal gripe was seeing Sonsie go to Tigerland. The second worst team i could have chosen. I think he will be something, but I also thought that about plenty of ER players, and over the years, only a few were verified, most notably, Sloane, Petracca, McStay, and still waiting to see the best of Cerra.
We seriously know very little even if we see some players week in week out.

How can you criticise draft decisions about kids you know nothing about?

It's baby out with the bathwater stuff.

Largely why I’ve not bothered reading player profiles and getting in a tizzy over who we do or don’t pick.

My judgment starts when they play in our VFL side. That’s when it all starts.

Serious question.

Seen him play once live mate. Saw another falcons game but only a quarter but didn’t see much of him.

I’m not saying I’m an expert mate. Never claimed to be. But I see myself as a good judge of talent and been following the draft each year quite closely for over a decade. It’s not my job but a hobby and I enjoy it and I’m passionate about the cats. In the thurlow draft I wanted Grundy at our pick. In the cocky I wanted lever. But whatever, that’s my arm chair opinion. I sure bloody hope wells co get it right more often than me… they do. But sometimes I disagree with our picks. So shoot me dead.

This is a footy forum to express opinion. If we took your advice we may as well shut it down mate.

I’ve called out detailed flaws that make me think he will struggle as a mid. That’s my opinion mate.
