Arguably still more effective than the majority of the available replacements. In the end, I see the relevance of Murph still putting his hand up for a game while the coach wanted him to play. You are a long time retired and worse than him have held on longer. Keep getting them cheques while someone wants to pay.

I don't blame footballers hanging in for as long as they can earning the dollars they can - by the time they are finishing up they are usually partnered/married and with kids - most never earn anything like they have been used to earning after football. It is the Club's responsibility to manage these things and the player's responsibility is firstly to themselves.
The good thing is that as long as the Club looks like it is on the way up - attracting players to come won't be as expensive as it used to be and ok players from a Club on the way up magically seem to be worth more to suitors....everyone is a winner.

As two of the biggest brains in football, I think 2022 is looking very good so far!

Noticed today that the NFL handed out over 30 compensatory draft picks for the teams that hired minority employees (a couple of teams got 5 picks). The first of these selections was end of 3rd round. Might be a model that the AFL could look at to try and get more indigenous coaches into the AFL (at least in assistant roles). Maybe instead of a compensatory draft pick the salary for an indigenous coach doesn't count in the soft cap?
On a side note an amazing stat from the NFL - teams who's quarterback was drafted in the 6th round of the draft have won a higher percentage of games than teams who's quarterback was drafted in the first round. Fair to say that Tom Brady has something to do with that.
