I’m not writing him off after a first game but McComb was well and truly out of his depth today.

Forward line was putrid, coaching was putrid - yep, let’s keep bombing it down the line to O’Brien, that’ll work.

We have lost to Melbourne (reigning premier), Carlton (much improved) Richmond (bogey side) and now a rebuilding Adelaide.

The first three said maybe we’re out of form, today simply said we’re not up to it this year.

We will never be a power house will we?

Unfortunately, it's just the history of our club.... Don't know why it just is....

Though, at least we snuck one in 2016

Disagree.

In 2016 Murphy, MBoyd and Morris were all 33 years old and playing good footy.

In 4 year's time our core group of 15 players will be:
Bont 30
Hunter 31
Macrae 31
Dunkley 29
Dale 29
Daniel 29
Treloar 33
BSmith 25
Richards 26
Naughton 26
Williams 28
Johannisen 33
English 28
McLean 30
Keath 33

Now not all of them will still be at our club (a fact of life for every club) and the 33yos might be past it but that's still a pretty sweet spot for some of our best players. Our challenge is to keep them during the low year or two before we bounce back.

Meanwhile we have JUH, Darcy and Weightman coming on. We will also have 4 drafts and trade periods between now and then to bring in more talent and get our list balance right.

There are also role players like Cordy, Gardner, Scott, RSmith, Schache, West, McNeil, Vandermeer, etc if they manage to kick on. And unknown quantities in Bedendo, Cleary and Jones. They will all still be in their twenties.

Murphy had no impact in 2016 as he only played 2 and a bit games and in reality the injury allowed some younger players to get a look in who played parts in our premiership

Bevo has backed himself into a corner with no man on the mark.......JJ won a NS medal purely for gaining ground.......hardly hit a target but we were about gaining and protecting ground = relentless pressure...........nect minute we are throughing ground advantage away like its christman wrapping paper on boxing day.

if the players are underachieving whose fault is it?

Coaching 101 would dictate either the game plan is crap or the players are not getting the message. Either way the coach carries the blame.

Being out coached and your players not responding to the message the coach is giving are two things worlds apart.

By the logic you and others live by, Clarko was a shit coach who got out coached the last few years at Hawthorn. If that’s the type of understanding of the game you want to go with, go ahead MD. I certainly wouldn’t go near it.

Coaching comes in two parts. Tactical nous and the ability to get your players to jump off a cliff for you. Bevos been pretty good at both for a while now, but they seem to not want to take the leap at the moment.

Did he tell them to keep bombing it to O'Brien? What happens is when you lose, your decision making looks horrible, not helped by poor skills. But let's keep up the narrative. Every loss is due to poor coaching and the main reason why you lose is because you are outcoached.

your right, a couple of nice tap ons and a late goal aside. 4 possies to half time.

Spent 66% of his time forward as well. Macrae also spent more time forward than usual at 23%, he also spent the last 5 mins off the ground. Always good to have the #1 ranked midfielder off the ground when the game is on the line.

- if they both mean the team is continually losing and underperforming what’s the difference

Bruce makes a difference no doubt but we have bigger problems than him being out of the side.

We have lost our hard edge, teams dont fear us anymore its as simple as that. We haven't responded to physicality and pressure and Bevo keeps picking the same guys week in week out.

I love football, we have played in a granny twice in 6 years and I thank bevo for that. But we havent been a top 4 side in any of those years and nothing has really been done to fill the gaps. We have blokes that get a heap of the pill but do nothing with it. Caleb Daniel has gone backwards and bont is having to play forward when we are getting smashed around the ball.

We flick the ball around far to much, those that think its exciting well thats great but really it isn't sustainable and it's become repetitive to watch week in week out regardless of the result.

very much losing interest in the game I once loved and it's not because we are losing its because of our stupid game plan and lack of ability to not fill obvious holes.

The question that needs to be asked is........ why do players not want to join our club?

If I was ladhams why go to Sydney over us when we played of in a Granny last year. Why do we not attract players to our club????
Afl is no different to any team sport in the world. You need the vast majority to do the non negotiables. It sets standards for those coming up trying to benchmark how they get a game, and it sets what’s not acceptable to those getting a game.
Ladhams is a weird one to bring up because he was dumped by Port precisely for not doing the above and is only just getting a game for Sydney because Hickey is injured. Ladhams probably should be dropped for Sydney currently.

Macrae was mediocre, hope theres no injury

Let me guess, supporters ignoring the woeful player performance and blaming the coaches being out coached? 😂😂😂

FMD, it’s a genuine exercise in mind numbing nuffy football analysis.

Give us something different for once!!
Ordinarily I agree with you but I thought Adelaide nailed their game plan from the first bounce. They stopped us playing as much as we were also off. Credit to them for wining away against last years GF. We lost to the team that finished 4th bottom last year at home.

Sorry, you do understand Clarko had a crap list For his last few years. That what happens when you win 3 flags in a row. I thought he overachieved with such a poor list.

Our list is in its prime and I believe the team we field is superior in talent than atleast 14 other teams. I am confident we are better than the Saints but 1 team is 5-1 and the other team is 2-4. As I said it is either our game plan is crap or the players are no longer listening.

i Am glad you now agree Bevo’s message is not getting through. He was a great motivator but his time is up.

We are just shit plain and simple. Our list is poor we have drafted poorly for the last couple of years and have way to many flakey players. Our coach thinks he’s a genius trying to reinvent things that don’t work when in reality he’s a dud who can motivate for streaks but not consistenc

To be fair he’s not a pressure forward. We seem to just hope one of these vfl accumulators will magically have forward nous.

People putting a heap of faith in Darcy... he is a kid and hasn't played men yet...
We busted our arses to get him and paid pick 2.

Yes, off course he might end up being a bust but the odds are against it. Here are the outcomes for pick 2 over the decade from 2011-2020:

2011 - Stephen Coniglio - star and club captain, 156 games (up to season 2021)
2012 - *Jonathan O'Rourke - bust, 21 games
2013 - Josh Kelly - star, 155 games
2014 - Christian Petracca - arguably the best player in the AFL right now, 127 games and a Norm Smith Medal
2015 - *Josh Schache - just clinging on to a list spot at his second club,, 65 games
2016 - Tim Taranto - star, 98 games
2017 - Andrew Brayshaw, good player, 3rd in Freo's B&F in 2021, 76 games
2018 - Jack Lukosius, good young player with his best yet to come, 60 games
2019 - Noah Anderson, joint winner of AFLCA best young player award in 2021, his second season, 37 games
2020 - Riley Thilthorpe, too early to say but he kicked 5 on debut and 14 in 18 games in his debut season

* Only these two wouldn't walk into our best 22 right now (well, maybe Thilthorpe too but like JUH he's only 20). Ironic that one of them is actually in our side right now!

So yes, you could argue Weightman or JUH or Darcy won't make it but I'm pretty sure we've got at least two good long term prospects there. And probably three. Either way it doesn't alter my argument.
