Amalie Borg. Happy about that because we needed another defender.
We need height and key position players. Agree here. Borg from what I’ve seen is a one on one lockdown defender. Not a great kick. Hopefully she gives the hands off ! Welcome Amelie

Port Adelaide List Manager Naomi Maidment said:
Amelie is a former netballer who was relatively late to football. Her football journey started by filling in for her sister’s team and she eventually made the decision to switch sports and focus on footy. She is a tall defensive player who was in The Advertiser’s SANFLW team of the year the last two seasons and was named All-Australian at the conclusion of the under-18 national championships. She is a current year 12 student who is a confident player with a great character.

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan said:
Close-checking defender with mobility and strength to compete well in the air. Important cog in South Australian defence, keeping the opposition to only nine goals across three matches averaging 8.3 disposals (5 contested) 2 marks and 2.7 tackles winning All-Australian U18 honours. A former junior athlete who excelled in shot put and discus, clearly indicating her strength and power. She made the SANFLW Team of the Year in 2021 as a 17-year-old.

Ewings North Adelaide,
Goodwin Glenelg,
Syme Norwood west coast Port Lincoln way,
Boag North Adelaide,
Duursma Vic Gountry - Gippsland,
Borg North Adelaide

Our NGA is lined up with South, West, WWT and Norwood. Good thing there weren't any NGA restrictions this draft.

Looks like some polish, grunt, tenacity, ticker and honour was drafted tonight. Potential Port Adelaide players really.

Our last pick is a smoky.

Draft/Rookie Central had one page profiles for top 30 + 24 mature age players + 48 18 and 19 year olds and then 3 profiles per page for 24 players and Lily Johnson didn't make it as part of those 126 players profiled.

I’m disappointed we didnt take Kustermann. Might bite us here. Great small defender/mid. Boag maybe a longer term prospect for us.

Cannot pick them all. I think we picked players to fill gaps in the side.

Name: Lily Johnson
Club: West Adelaide/Tasmania
Position: Forward
DOB: 13 April 2004
Height: 167cm

Port Adelaide List Manager Naomi Maidment said:
Lily has performed well since moving to South Australia, along with her brother Jesse, for more opportunity in football. Lily has previously represented Tasmania in the under-15s side and both she and Jesse ended up at West Adelaide in 2022. Lily is a really clean, skilful player, who is smart around goals. She is quite shy, but has a great personality, and we can see she has huge growth potential in an elite environment.

So Jesse Johnson to be Port's first pick in the men's national Draft this year?

Our first 3 picks Ewings, Goodwin and Syme were All Australians at the U/18 champs and Goodwin and Syme are still in year 12, Ewings is an apprentice chef.

Boag played for SA but didn't make the All Oz team. She is doing year 12.

Duursma played for Vic Country and she will have to relocate and do year 12 remotely. Wants to go to uni and study marine biology.

Borg was selected as an All Oz and is doing year 12.

Johnson - didn't play for SA and her study/work status wasn't listed by Naomi Maidment.

So 5 of the 7 girls will be finishing off year 12 as they start their full time footy career. Will be tough but I'm sure the club has planned for it with some tutoring and other educational assistance given what our community programs try and achieve.
