Tim Kelly was awesome for us, and we were compensated handsomely when he left. I reckon right about now he might be thinking maybe it wasn’t such a great move. Getting tagged each week in a s**t team, this can’t be much fun.

At least he has his Septembers free now.

I wonder whether he's actually not reasonably content. Living 'at home', getting paid very handsomely, and clearly embracing the preferred option for the other key people in his life.

And the Weagles may well begin to (somewhat) contend again before the close of his career as well. I'd be surprised if he's not pretty much as comfortable as we are with how things worked out.

Well, we aren’t discussing the game.
You’re trying to dream up scenarios. Why bother?

What will be, will be.

All I care about is staying in the 4 and avoiding an interstate trip. That’s it.

My method wouldn’t work for you.
What final was it years ago where you went for a walk because you couldn’t handle it?

You and I are so different. I’d never do that. I listen to games I can’t watch. And if we lose I don’t get up the next day and kick the cat.

If you want to hear of my possible worries. It’s Melbourne (although off the boil currently) …. Daylight, freo and Sydney (because I think their structures stand up)….. daylight bulldogs. (But I just don’t think we’ll face them in finals)

We just play who we play and give it a crack. Why worry about anything?
The game was 2008 GF. Have never walked out on any final.
I stayed til the end and walked home after it- Richmond to Ringwood.

Collingwood are riding a wave of adrenaline and belief at the moment. Those games are exhausting both physically and mentally and at some stage in the next couple of weeks fate will catch up with them and they are going to fall in a hole and a deep one.

It could have the opposite effect. They know they have mental resilience to get it done in finals now.
They also did it with Maynard off the ground in the last quarter. Their best run and carry defender.

With de Goey & Grundy to return, it will be one of these teams who sneak up on everyone in September. Geelong and Melbourne are the darling's of the competition but as we often see, it's flips on it's head immediately when the real stuff begins.

You walked from Richmond to Ringwood? Good effort- it was like that I agree.
St Kilda friends of mine got in the car and started driving and ended up in Adelaide after the 2009 GF.
I left the G after the 1995 GF and couldn’t speak for about 24 hours.
Ah footy!

It’ll be interesting to see how the next few weeks goes for them- may be they think they are destined now, and going all the way? I suspect they will lose a couple in the upcoming weeks but doubt they will fall in a big hole. Don’t think they will be there the last week in September though, next year maybe.

I know most of our supporters think we are the real deal, and flag favourites.
How do we rate the others? 5 weeks out. Ridiculous as so much can change, but anyway
My order right now, given players to come back, talent, upside:-
1. Carlton
2. Melbourne
3. Swans
4. Freo
5. Brisbane
6. Pies
7. Doggies

You could be right, but also I see Carlton as the team that will sneak up on the comp. They are slowly getting all their stars back, and they have that youthful energy and nothing to lose. So maybe a Carlton Collingwood GF

i'll bet my account on the pies not making the GF

Reigning premiers with that much talent on their list can't be dismissed until finals failures. Yes their forward line has issues but you could easily see them ramp it up several gears from here.

Brisbane have had finals failures but will be hungry for it and could have a Geelong 2020 style run. Expectation is lowered for them now but they have genuine firepower that could trouble any team.

Swans a good blend of experience and younger players entering their prime. They are inconsistent within games but have bursts that scare me. If they strike it at the right time, they will be tough to withhold.

Freo are a decent side but too many concerns about their scoring ability and I think they'll narrowly miss out on top 4.

Carlton and Collingwood are worthy of making the 8 but too many deficiencies right now to be serious contenders.

Doggies are capable of magic runs but lack quality at either end of the ground.
