He would have kicked 30+ under Voss and that would have got us into finals, possibly top 4.

So no, it's not.

We were clearly unbalanced up forward with three inexperienced small forwards....
Largely agree.

Playing three specialist small forwards was just odd, particularly three inexperienced ones.

Going to be a bit of a wet blanket here but after doing our best 22 in the other thread I really don't think we need to trade for anyone. Maybe Acres if Freo don't want him, I've watched a bit of him this year and he could be a good alternative to O'Brien on the wing. All in all we should hit the draft hard.

I reckon we need some better outside run. Sure LOB has improved this year, but not to the extent we need him to be.

43 on the money yet again:

Jackson is the worst kept secret in the history of the AFL. It's at the point now Freo have already pick him for the round 1 team next year.

Amon will be a hawk.

Not many could even consider Whitfield based on his contract. So he has to decide if he wants to play for one of the few teams that could.
Richmond will most likely end up with one of the GWS excess inside mids.

Fair chance De Goey and Grundy could be moved on from the pies, and they pick up Mcstay, but given their current list payments, and what they would have to contribute to any Grundy deal, unlikely they can lure much else.

Melbourne are searching everywhere to spend the money they had saved for Jackson on a key forward, they have a break out player from the Hawks in the crosshairs, but would have to move heaven and earth to get the hawks to part with him.

Charlie likely to sign new contract before years end, Harry's negotiations might go into next year, but entirely confident they are both staying long term.

Interesting list calls to be made on the lower end, Setterfield's return to form has ramifications. Sholl is very a likely acquisition, can go into the reasons why again, but have covered it before and a few others have made similar point, he'll be a good pick up.

Depending on Marchbank and Govs ability to play out the year, we could have a very quiet offseason.

How do you get experience into them? You play them. Next year they will be better for it.

You remove the expectation that not playing seniors is somehow failing.

You align your VFL program to develop for your AFL program.

You have the right coaches for the right lines.

If three specialist small forwards is the answer, we are asking the wrong question.

The year will have been good for him. The fact that his team mates aren’t overlooking him or burning him as an outlet is a good sign. Another season playing in the seniors will give him more experience and let him fine hone his skills.

Lachie Fogarty: "Hey guys, can I have a go?"

Jack Newnes: "Chuck your Freo jumpers on boys, I've got this".

Mitch McGovern and Lewis Young: "Hey, um, Arrow told us to come down here, what are we doing?"

Lachie Fogarty: "Guys, I'm still here, can anyone hear me?"

Tom De Koning: "Is there some way I can incorporate a jump into this?"

Jack Silvagni: "This seems like a forward drill, you guys know I'm a ruckman now, yeah?"

David Cuningham: "Easy as, watch this.... rip....goddammit."

Lachie Fogarty: "Guys....?"
Fish: here ya go

Well, they’ll be experienced next year!!

Couldn’t play four talls, once we ran out of puff earlier in the season after smashing teams for a quarter or two the forward line did it’s beat lamp post impersonations.

Massive development year in 2022, I’m expecting big things next year….hopefully our phys edders can come to the party

Make of it what you will, I'm not sure as no ITK has said anything...

Heard a rumour from a client... Not sure of the validity, but they do have connections...
Gov maybe thinking about taking he's family home to WA...

Client, doesn't think it will happen... But, believes he's contemplating it...

Reckon we need to build on our assistants again. We fell apart tactically in the midfield and forward line in a big way this season.

Midfield didn't appear to have a plan B. A lot of teams have a plan B where they can defend themselves back into games by simply playing close to their opposition and applying pressure and winning the ball opportunistically. Something we have been extremely vulnerable to the last 10 or so years but something we fail to implement ourselves when we should. Collingwood pretty much use this tactic as their main tactic and IMO we should as well. We appear to just hunt the ball and tag one player which works well when we win it and fails terrible when we don't and fails to support our defence.

I'm not sure our midfield tactics aren't limited and out of date, more so out of balance.

As for our forward line we just appear to suffer badly from having our forwards out of position all the time. Talls in a spot where they get it kicked on or over their head if it comes in rushed and the smalls just nowhere to be seen.

As for assistant coaches, it would be good to have someone on board who specialises in outside play. If we could get more out of our wingmen and half forwards then this makes a difference.

I feel tactically we failed but we also failed to turn up in some games and in some areas. Leadership in the forward line is a problem. When the effort and positioning is off and players are making brain dead decisions (Curnow playing on early in the last quarter and missing etc) there is no one to speak up and take control up there. The midfield has it's leaders who are obvious and so does the defence but who is our voice and leader of our forward line?

Too many times this year when we had the opportunity to control games it was our forward line who let us down and they did that right to the end, that last game was horrendous from our forward group.

Definitely need to work on defending the game in the modern sense. Play a tighter more opportunistic structure in our midfield setup. Less clearances but more pressure and rebounds from defenders due to it. At least have that as a plan B when our all out attack at stoppages fails or we build a lead and look to hold it. Pressure up forward means ground level forwards positioning is a key focus.

Would be more than happy for Eddie Betts to return as a coach, spending a year at the cats, he's someone who sees the game in a different way and is a forward line expert and knows a bit about outside play.

Interesting.

Maybe wants to play with his brother for a couple of years? He’s probably had a few step downs in his contract with another to come next year and could feasibly be paid more at the Eagles who are going to have plenty of cap space as some of their old stagers retire.

There was talk earlier on in the year about the club's concern over Gov's professionalism with his rehab. There was later a rumour that he was potentially seeking a trade back to SA. Maybe now he's thinking WA? Personally don't see it happening but an interesting one to keep our eyes on.

Given his connection with Teague and Eddie I could certainly see a scenario where he found himself in a different environment this year, and while he may not want to follow either of those blokes specifically, he might not be overly engaged in the culture of the club, making a move to another club viable.

I'd be a bit disappointed to see it, on the basis that he has a pretty transformative impact on our backline when he plays, but considering his propensity to miss games it's more "Oh, that sucks a bit" than "Geez, that kills us!".

What's the asking price for Gov under contract? Pick in the 18-25 range? I feel anything less we just hold onto him for another year.

West Coke will not be giving up draft picks and they have enough players in the older age group…

Freo saving all their cash for the Melbourne ruckman…

Gov would not command anymore than 30+ I would think. Guy is a liability for any club picking him up injury wise. If we have put the work in and he looks like holding up. Prob more use to us on the list than the trade table. Has been a bust so far that one. Its frustrating because he clearly makes us a better backline.

Pick 25-30 and I’d shake hands and say thanks and good luck

Then we keep him, he owes us big time.

He’s 22, came a long way this year.

Why do you think he’s reached his ceiling? It’s usually between mid to late twenties a player is at their best.

Dow staying
He's contracted. Was never going to be delisted, if your comment relates to today's delistings. He might, however, be on the trade table - if you've got anything to suggest otherwise, would be interested to hear.
