Roast Tyson Stengle sacked after ****ing up again

I think the club had no other choice but to sack him. At the time, Matthew Nicks was establishing a whole heap of different standards for every player on the list to meet.

Gibbs wasn’t, gone. Crouch, Atkins didn’t seem interested in doing this, they are gone. Stengle didn’t seem interested ether and ultimately got given his marching orders.

Has the club continued to give him chance after chance, he would have taken any punishment for granted and just do what he likes and not meet any standards. To his credit, he went back to WWT, played some really good footy and with the help of Eddie and Anna found his way to Geelong. Credit to him, he’s now an All Australian player. I doubt that happens at the crows for many different reasons and that’s not blaming the crows.

Well done to Tyson Stengle.

Yeh, we just unlucky, got the timing wrong. We did everything right, as per usual.

Hopefully he is not that dumb.

I would argue that every club would sack a player for three instances of such bad PR in such a short time period.

99.99% of players get the message after the 2nd incident. Stengle didn't.

These guys are in an image based business, a reason they get paid so much.

If they could then we’ve had not had to pay him out. So no, your argument is straight up wrong. Re-gear.

Many wrote off Stengle as being not that good when he played for us.

But even among those of us that liked what they saw, I'm not sure anyone could have worked out a way that he could have stayed and thrived?

How about we just wear the fact that it didn't work out for us with Tyson, but good luck to him finding a spot on Geelong's list and making the most of it.
I know I am bringing up an old post but two of us myself and Danger in Texas
We’re front runners at the time
to claim him as a want
I think Mutineer will confirm

I personally at the end conceded he had to go despite his talent

50 goals in a season, all Australian...will it be the premiership medal before people concede we need to change our parameters?
Nope.

He has done well to get back. Talent never the issue.

But as we have seen with Wayne Carey and one public Coke indiscretion, the AFL industry is tough on it. Coke use woukd be reasonable in the general media. And yet Carey has lost his media jobs, plural.

AFL not tough on Coke use, just tough on it being public.

He had a chance, blew it on the second. After seeing what has happened to Carey, I bet the AFL got involved.

And yeah our club are the big loser in this.

Yep, I thought that he was mediocre and not worth the hassle. I’m amazed at the star player that he has become.

Nobody punishes players like us, we wanted him sacked but couldn’t do it legally. No way AFL forced our hand, we live for over-penalising players.

The media with Carey?

His media career is over for simple possession. No police charges laid?

The AFL are paranoid about illicit drug use made public.

Not sure we’ve seen the last of him just yet…
I hope not.

Knows his stuff.

There is no denying the AFL really don't like drug use made public. Players use coke though.

So few players get caught once and twice in 6 months our club had no option.

Rubbish, the AFL has an illicit drug policy that he could have been handled under. A footy first club would tell the AFL to GAGF if they wanted more. But they wouldn’t need to tell us because we were already well ahead of the punishment game.

I guess it is hard for either of us to prove we are right.

No other player has had two public indiscretions involving coke in 6 months.

I actually think what he did was not that bad at all. Agree he should never havd been punished as he was. But the AFL are paranoid around anyone in the industry being caught with it.

That includes Carey. Lost his media career over a minimal amount of "white powder". Massive over reaction.

We all know players use it. No doubt just as common in the media. Alcohol makes you fat and hangovers affect training the next day. The first rule is keep it discreet. Or risk being ousted.

Interesting point about the Illicit Drug Polucy. I never though of this.

The penalties

three-strikes policy is:

The first positive test results in a suspended $5000 fine

The second positive test results in a four-match ban and $5000 fine, and outed publicly

The third positive test results in a 12-month suspension and a $10,000 fine

We pretty much followed this policy

1 An offence the public doesn't know about? Plus a DUI earlier that year.

2 Four match ban when caught with B Crouch

3 One year suspension after the photo. Stengle negotiated out of his contract to be allowed to enter the midseason draft. But he was technically suspended by us and allowed to play for WWT.

So there you go. What our club did was in line with the Illicit drug strike policy.

You have to agree our club didnt act any different to the Industry expectation.

Bearded Clam thoughts?

If you actually go back through his time at the club there were plenty of posters on here who kept saying waffle like "he's to slow and doesn't tackle enough". Vader being one.

Indiscretion aside, we never even gave him a proper shot on the team.

Under the AFL illicit drugs policy, a 3rd strike is a 12 game ban, not a 12 month ban.

Supposedly if you have some diagnosed minor mental health issue … then no strike is recorded for a detection, so you can basically do what you like …. ie Bailey Smith.
