The red herring is the thought that they were ever going to respond to anonymous claims in a newspaper article at all.
So what's the issue then? Why does anyone, including Clarkson and Fagan, care about this article and these claims?

After all, they're just anonymous claims in some newspaper article.

Too coincidental for mine. Timing is impeccable. How long was the report with Hawthorn before Jackson's work? Not that long from what I can gather. Happy to be corrected.

Sorry but in such huge matters, I don't really believe in coincidences.
No question someone pointed the way , but who? Ahawthorn president with an axe to grind? AFL was caught with their carpet being taken away before the shredders got to work.

Clarkson has the best lawyers in Melbourne so he is getting a right of reply.
The overwhelming evidence and corroberated statements stand there for everyone to see.
What's wrong is people inventing conspiracy theories or dismissing the available evidence.
They went to his house , changed his sim card, took some of his possessions and told him he was breaking up with his partner and living somewhere else. The partner contacted the club to see how her partner was, got a reply saying they can't do anyyhing.
She was in stress and physically sick and then miscarriaged.
Those are all facts that were corroborated.
There's people on these threads who don't care about facts or miscarriages, they just want a coach for their football team, which is pretty disgusting.

They don’t have any obligation to respond to Jackson or anyone else’s article. Nor have either of them stated intentions to respond to the media on the matter.

Both Fagan and Clarkson have suggested that they will cooperate with the AFL investigation.

Corroborated when and by whom?

This is the man who has caused this to get out of control

Why was she contacting the club and not her partner? Seems wierd

What? Yeah haven't read much. Just seems wierd why isn't her partner speaking to her and why is she contacting the club president to speak to him for her? Apologies if that's been addressed earlier I haven't read the whole thing

The allegation is that the club cut all contact between her and the player including removing him from their house and taking his SIM card.

Of course they don't have an obligation to

It's not about obligation, it's about saving their careers.

The difficulty is that it’s not what it was supposed to be. It was supposed to be a truth telling exercise for Indigenous players, it wasn’t something where the Terms of Reference provided for cross examination. So if the players don’t want to participate in the AFLs process, what happens?

Should the coaches get off, despite what the Hawthorn report says, because players never agreed to be cross-examined?

I think that’s where a lot of people are coming from - the players’ claims shouldn’t and can’t be invalidated because of something they never agreed to, and was not within the ToR.

The coaches will be given their chance to speak their truth as the players and partners were given. Rightly or wrongly there will be some hand grenades thrown via the media at the expense of the players and their partners, as was done to the coaches. So I’m sure there’ll be leaks of players and/or partners being let’s call it ‘unhinged’ and that’s unfortunately going to get really messy.

Then if the players and partners refuse to speak on the topic again, which is their right, it will be up to the AFL to decide if the actions were warranted based on all available evidence at the time.

Things like comments on the state of the house etc… will be impossible to substantiate, but removing SIMS, encouraging a player to move house, cancel their engagement etc…. will either be seen as reasonable in the circumstances (ie. violence, drugs, emotional abuse, relationship trauma etc…) or a ridiculous overreach (ie. a pregnant woman who just needs some care and support).

I feel for the players and their partners for what is likely to come their way where the more they can be painted as ‘trouble’ the less punishment the coaches are likely to get. So as I said, it’s going to get very messy and be very sad for all involved.

So you get a new SIM card. Call them and hey presto you have their contact. Or find out from a third party the phone number. Surely everyone knows this. Its probably saved to the phone anyway. The SIM card thing is one of the more bizarre aspects of this.

Because the club changed the players SIM card in his phone when they moved him away from her . They prevented them from having contact with each other, shocking behaviour by the club.

This is the issue , think you should go back to the start and read it all.

My reading is a bit different.

He’s too scared to make contact because he’s been given the very clear message that contacting her will be very bad for his career and his AFL dream. This is the essence of coercive control.

She can’t contact him because she doesn’t have his new number and no idea where he is living.
