Traded Jason Horne-Francis [to Port Adelaide in multi-club trade]

Are GWS looking to use picks 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 purely for the draft? Or do they want to get some players in via trade?

Maybe we could upgrade pick 33 or 43 for one those later picks and offer up Byrne-Jones or Bonner?

We genuinely need to trade away a player for 2nd round. Can't see it happening another way.

Hayes, Drew, Bonner, DBJ, Farrell. DBJ with most value in that lot perhaps as an All-Australian and club BnF although he was off it best this year. I know he just resigned but yeah either him or Drew

In all seriousness North have actually done fine out of this deal. So have West Coast. GWS showed up, bent over and handed over the lube to make it work for everyone else, and I salute them for it.
Yeah I think north have done well. What more can you hope for to get for a player that wants out than a similar pick + a future 1st on top. That’s a good deal.

Also west coast, despite people knocking them to get out of pick 2 and the private school vic boys and into hewett territory , whose not far behind, if at all those vic boys plus get another pick. That’s good for them.

Ports given up a lot, but the fact we get future 2nds and 3rds back helps a lot,

In the end rozee butters jhf Bergman sinn to look forward too in our midfield.

I really rate that group of players as a future midfield. High end young talent there.

I'm still waiting for Essendon to become involved to land Wardlaw. He's a Bombers supporter so unsure why no word (publicly) about them trying to move up the board like GWS.
Bombers need a good news story surely.
Obviously would be nice to have both GWS and Ess trying to outbid each other.

My best at braining it out

Cats:
In - Ports F2 (for Bowes)
Out - Rata, F3

Bris:
In - 33
Out - Cats F2

WC:
In - 8, 12, Cats F3
Out - 2, Rioli

GWS:
In - 1, Cats F2, Freo F3
Out - 3, 12, 15, 18

Port:
In: JHF, Rioli, Rata
Out - 8, 33, F1, F2

North:
In - 2, 3, 15, 18, Port F1
Out - JHF, 1, Freo F3
8, 12 and a f3, that's utterly ridiculous

Late breaking news

Two number 1 picks, One destination

In a breaking story Brady Rawlings, Todd Viney and the North Melbourne brains trust have come up with a stunning coup plan to dominate the trade period and set up their club for many future years.

In a stunning revelation the NMFC have secured two prized No.1 picks by deciding to do absolutely F*#$+-g nothing. Thus securing what North already had and pulling off a trade masterstroke.

Rawlings was quoted saying " You know how the story goes, two number 1's is better than being bent over behind a bush "

The key to this trade is involving other clubs. A lot think NM have no reason to involve others, however they realise the JHF situation is near untenable and a multi club trade along the lines of what has been reported is much easier to “sell” as a win than pick 8, F1 and F2/Bonner type. It’s all posturing, a deal with occur and “everyone will come out a winner”

The multi club offers are no different to us than your original offer that we rejected. We don't need Port to get involved in the deal with GWS for pick 1.

Trade something you don't want to or come back in 12 months.

The key to this trade is Port offering more than pick 8, pick 33 and a future first. Everyone can see this except Port fans and journos, apparently.

If Port aren't willing to part with more than the above for JHF (let alone any other players being involved) they should probably shift focus to getting Rioli and Ratagolea and leaving a play for JHF to next year.

Who knows, the longer this drags on and seems less likely that anything is going to be done the Crows might become involved and say don't trade him and if he decides he wants to go home next year we will do a much better deal than what Port is offering and we will swing him around that they aren't going to ever do a deal with Port so your only hope is come to the Crows.

It would be amusing if after the saga played out for two years he lined up for them.

We would then just have to sit down with the Crows with a scenario table of what would happen if Crows finished 18th through to 1st, what would be the agreed ballpark arrangement.

If we have nothing better to do than listen to dumb 6 way deals, it gives Crows times to concoct something.

Port will part with more than that. But the more that we part with will be more middling picks or maybe a Bonner/Drew type, not your dream result of Georgiades or North's dream result of Butters. At best somebody might shake someone like Bergman out of us. It'll be done with quantity, not quality.

The compounding problem is we really only have 3 list spots open this year, and that's cutting Walker and Jedi who could easily go round again.

We only need 2 picks before Cooper as a F/S.

We don't need quantity unless it's solid future picks, multiple top 20 type stuff, we already have an extra 3rd banked for next year.

The quantity doesn't necessarily go to North. That's probably why there are so many clubs involved.

If the reports are correct it seems like Port basically give out 8 + F1 as our major pieces, everyone else shuffles their major pieces around, and then we use our plethora of middling picks to spread around the sweeteners to even it up and keep everyone happy.

This relies on Port getting permission to trade multiple future picks as well as this year's picks, but given that we're using those picks to get a gun 19 year old, it's not exactly mortgaging our future (quite the opposite actually), so hopefully the AFL will grant that permission.

I think most likely it gets done with the AFL signing off on allowing future seconds to be traded.

It would give port the extra second round to get this deal to happen, Geelong the ability to get Bowes and Brisbane the chips to get the picks needed for Dunkley.

They'd love it too, because they love when the interest in trade period and it all being done last minute. They'll probably announce they're accepting first and second round futures to be traded on the Tuesday, so it all happens on the final day of trade period

Eagles would probably take 33 and Frederik for Rioli and Port can come up with something next year for JHF

I don't want Georgiades. At least not at "he's worth a top 10 pick on his own" valuation. He never needed to be in any Rioli trade discussion, just like Rioli and pick 2 don't need to be in any JHF discussion.

Lol. m8. If we're only getting one of JHF and Rioli, I absolutely promise you with all my heart we won't be prioritising Rioli.

On the eagles side I suspect it will be close to:

Eagles lose pick 2, pick 26, Rioli
Eagles gain pick 8 (Port), pick 12 (GWS), pick 19 (GWS)

Not unfair but leaves no meat on the bone for the JHF trade thus irrelevant.

We would want more than 2 for JHF, and won't take 3 + 12 for 1 just to give up 12.

Probably best for Port to do 33 and something for Rioli and keep it all seperate.

You don't have the currency for JHF
Pending AFL permission we have two first rounders, two second rounders and three third rounders to play with. Some combination of those picks, creatively traded, will be enough to get JHF. If there are any scraps left over we can send them your way for Rioli out of the goodness of our heart rather than take him in the PSD.

What if North want something higher than pick 8 which is the general feeling.
