Traded Jason Horne-Francis [to Port Adelaide in multi-club trade]

Are GWS looking to use picks 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 purely for the draft? Or do they want to get some players in via trade?

Maybe we could upgrade pick 33 or 43 for one those later picks and offer up Byrne-Jones or Bonner?

We genuinely need to trade away a player for 2nd round. Can't see it happening another way.

Hayes, Drew, Bonner, DBJ, Farrell. DBJ with most value in that lot perhaps as an All-Australian and club BnF although he was off it best this year. I know he just resigned but yeah either him or Drew

In all seriousness North have actually done fine out of this deal. So have West Coast. GWS showed up, bent over and handed over the lube to make it work for everyone else, and I salute them for it.
Yeah I think north have done well. What more can you hope for to get for a player that wants out than a similar pick + a future 1st on top. That’s a good deal.

Also west coast, despite people knocking them to get out of pick 2 and the private school vic boys and into hewett territory , whose not far behind, if at all those vic boys plus get another pick. That’s good for them.

Ports given up a lot, but the fact we get future 2nds and 3rds back helps a lot,

In the end rozee butters jhf Bergman sinn to look forward too in our midfield.

I really rate that group of players as a future midfield. High end young talent there.

Last pick 1 traded after 1 year only cost pick 6 and an aging Ryan Griffen.

So pick 8 and and Oli Wines gets it done? How old is Wines? 28/29. So 3 or 4 years left, maybe 5 playing the bash and crash inside mid role.

Port fans will lol and carry on but they dont have the picks to move a contracted JHF without losing a player somewhere.

Maybe Bergman will end up being the key.

SPP possibly to help get the Rioli side done and also land Ratagolea.

Hayes may interest the Eagles to an extent simply based on needs. Teakle is a WA lad but injured.

Drew is building nicely and is only 24, Vic Country lad.

Port simply need to move a player or two to make this happen. Its their problem to solve.

Or simply not to solve, and just wait.
And maybe focus elsewhere for 12 months.

This is a weird mindset from Port.

If they walk away from this deal, they essentially tell JHF "sorry mate, we couldn't get a deal done, go back to this team and fanbase that you've completely burned for 12 months and we'll try again next year"

We've been told non-stop that his spot at North is untenable for 2023, but why would he want to go to Port next off-season if they put him in that position?

There is zero incentive for West Coast to be involved in this deal.

The only reason they are being dragged into it, is to make it work on paper for Port.

Giving up pick 2, has to come with some mustard, otherwise, why bother?
I think port have finally come to the conclusion they need to give up a decent player to someone or this deal doesn’t happen

Now we wait for them to convince someone to go or it doesn’t happen

Yeah, it's such a bizarre and slanted hypothetical they've been imposing on other clubs.

They WANT a NM player.

They WANT WC picks to get it done, on top of trying to snatch Rioli.

So where is the leverage?

Why in all their proposals does everyone else have to bend over, to get things done for Port?

Again, You know it was YOUR player that wanted to walk from YOUR club, and still does.

Theres no story if this wasn’t the case.

Who cares.

The only way that impacts the situation for pick 2, is that it should and will make the club more obstinate that they get a great deal.

There is zero incentive to play along. Time for Port to pony up or piss off.

From a good source: Port deal has fallen through but JHF still wants to come home.

Crows are putting a deal together (will need to trade one of their young stars).

Who?

And only 1?

Ben Keys has considered a move. Only 25. Late 1st round value 13 to 18?

Sholl? Mid to late 2nd.

Himmelberg? Tall forward to help Larkey. Late 2nd.

Would take more than oneplayer IMO, even Rachelle is likely value around pick 6 still.

Rachelle, Keys and a F1st?

Exactly. WC are pissed that a player went public saying they wanted to leave, and any club would be the same.

So WC should just go public and say “we have no interest in trading anything”.
But they do, so we just let the various teams work it out, and we’ll see if anything or nothing comes of it.

Sure. And potentially miss out like Papely. Port happy to take that risk? On a generational talent no less?

You dont get ex pick 1s nominating your club very often. And next year the Crows will be right there bidding as well.

The player will be dissapointed and frustrated that Port wouldnt make some tough calls to make it happen so next time he may not mind which SA club he moves to.

If Port give up after chasing every decent mid after one actually nominates them that says something.

Correction.

They were disappointed in Rioli.

They are pissed that Port are offering well below what they see as acceptable. And now Port want the Eagles to trade pick 2 for unders to help them. No wonder they are pissed off.

But that’s how it works isn’t it?

When NM are demanding the largest trade deal in the history of the AFL, for a player that doesn’t want to play for them, then that’s what you potentially end up with.

So why not come out and say “Not interested at all?”

It makes zero difference whether he wants to play for them or not. It only matters what they paid originally.

If you want to buy something from someone who doesn't want to sell, you don't offer less than what they originally paid and crack the shits when they refuse.

A deal will get done, North Melbourne have enough (through no fault of their own tbh) baggage to deal with the surrounding Clarkson investigation, which from recent media reports I have read, will not be resolved before Christmas, if not the new year.

The AFL may have to bend its own rules/make an allowance to make JH-F's transfer to Alberton possible, but it will happen.

It would be a very unhealthy look for the league if we had to endure another 12 months of this drama.
Yep. Clarkson is bullying draftees again & has not even started coaching yet. Great optics

No one is doing that mate. And I think that north are happy to let him go if the deal is reasonable. Clean start with a couple of high picked Victorian kids who are keen to be ther for their new coach. No distractions.

Serious question - is JHF a bad fit for NM given how dire their situation is, or is JHF one of those personalties that is a culture killer?
Everything I've heard about him makes JHF sound like a young Nathan Buckley. I think he'll be fine when he finds his way to a club he can settle at.

If Nathan Buckley was lazy and didn't do his recovery work.

Many people think the deal is already done and it’s all just AFL grandstanding which is a strong possibility, but let’s just say it’s not. If it comes down to 5PM Wednesday and our final offer is 8, F1 and 33, North Melbourne are taking it. We all know it’s true. Why wouldn’t they?

Personally I feel like the way he's handled the situation shows a fair bit less character than how Bucks handled his trade request. NB requesting a trade was a pretty shit move, but at least he:

1. Made it clear to Brisbane from the start that he wanted to play in Melbourne and was not keen to spend his career with them, and
2. Actually gave a **** in his first season. He gave Brisbane his all for his one year with them, didn't give up and stop caring halfway through.

Not here to completely shit on JHF, I think at the end of the day he's a 19-year-old kid who's had some difficult circumstances and didn't handle the start of his career as well as he could have, but Buckley was a lot classier in how he went about his trade request.

He is still a kid though, every chance his attitude improves going forward in his career and he ends up an absolute star.
