Traded Jason Horne-Francis [to Port Adelaide in multi-club trade]

Are GWS looking to use picks 3, 12, 15, 18 and 19 purely for the draft? Or do they want to get some players in via trade?

Maybe we could upgrade pick 33 or 43 for one those later picks and offer up Byrne-Jones or Bonner?

We genuinely need to trade away a player for 2nd round. Can't see it happening another way.

Hayes, Drew, Bonner, DBJ, Farrell. DBJ with most value in that lot perhaps as an All-Australian and club BnF although he was off it best this year. I know he just resigned but yeah either him or Drew

In all seriousness North have actually done fine out of this deal. So have West Coast. GWS showed up, bent over and handed over the lube to make it work for everyone else, and I salute them for it.
Yeah I think north have done well. What more can you hope for to get for a player that wants out than a similar pick + a future 1st on top. That’s a good deal.

Also west coast, despite people knocking them to get out of pick 2 and the private school vic boys and into hewett territory , whose not far behind, if at all those vic boys plus get another pick. That’s good for them.

Ports given up a lot, but the fact we get future 2nds and 3rds back helps a lot,

In the end rozee butters jhf Bergman sinn to look forward too in our midfield.

I really rate that group of players as a future midfield. High end young talent there.

The deal will get done lol.

I agree - Ken will crack, he's mortgaging his and your future on this working out.

Hopefully Jason rediscovers this mythical drive and professionalism that apparently disappeared between Adelaide and Melbourne lol.

So why did Port waste everyones time on a lowball?
Port wanted a good player, what a shock. North want too much what they realistically want to pay.

Pick 8 which could be a Busslinger or Phillipou, a likely top 10 pick again next year in a good draft and Bergman/Duursma/Butters etc is way too much. No way JHF will be better then all 3 combined.

You clearly didn’t offer overa for Kelly in the first year otherwise they would have taken it.
They didn't want to trade to begin with, which is fair enough.

We ended up paying through the nose the next year for him though, because even though he stated zero desire to go to Fremantle, they had a lower PSD pick than us, so we had to pay up.

Sound familiar?

If JHF goes to the PSD and Adelaide is lower on the ladder, you can guarantee they'll take him, regardless of whether he wants to go there or not.

This is probably the 1000th time this has been said on this thread.

You do understand Port don't have to agree to any deal too right?

Realistically he would of been pick 2 if Daicos wasn’t a fs and north are acting like he’s Chris Judd.
Terrible look for Port of they get a player to nominate their club for a trade and then decide the asking price is too much, unless they're prepared to pay well over the following year to ensure the trade is done, a la Kelly & WCE.

It does sound familiar, in fact it’s exactly the same situation. Except for the fact that our offer for Horne Francis is significantly higher than your paying “through the nose” for Kelly, even though people are wetting their pants about how unders it is. It’s madness in here.

Not ports fault a team is being unrealistic.
Go after the previous year's No.1 pick and get shocked when the club asks for a deal in their favour to get him to move under contract.

Surprised Meme GIF

I literally just explained it to you.

JHF isn’t going to better then Busslinger/Phillipou (pick 8), a likely too 10 pick next year and 1 of Duursma/Bergman/Butters.
Your explanation is irrelevant

Your club sold a deal to last years #1 and then didn't want to cough up the currency

Or they could just hold him to his contract and force a bidding war between Adelaide and Port next year?
This is an interesting suggestion. I wonder how this would sit with North and Adelaide fans. Roos get another year to try and build with JHF, Crows can focus on Rankine this year and build towards a shot at adding JHF next year, potentially as a Sloane replacement.

Pick 9 + your future 1st + 33 + 43 is not enough for JHF .

Just go trying to trade that for pick 1 .

Gws offering pick 3 + 12 for pick 1 and the roos still won't do that trade .

Port need to trade a good player to get this over the line

If JHF stays, going to be fun explaining to him who port rates higher;
See that butters kid, yeah Port wanted him more then you, Bergman yeah rated him much higher, Sinn? Yeah JHF you were an after thought to port. Look I don’t think they thought to much of you, otherwise they would’ve moved heaven and earth to have you on their list.

Judd was the clear best player in the game. Are there any other examples since of the trade value we are talking about?
Peter Bell was # 6, # 8, #37 and Jess Sinclair is probably the only one I can think of that comes remotely close to the Judd trade.

But Kennedy was a much higher pick and prospect than Sinclair who was a 50 gamer and originally pick # 31 in the draft.

You're dumbing that down quite a bit. Its not a player for a player - its a player + all other picks who you dont know what they will be.

You can't just trade a contacted player against their will. Bergman and co have to want to go, otherwise nothing can be done.

If JHF stays, they are going to do a lot more than point the finger at Port to smooth their relationship up with their player.
Would be best to try to repair a fractured relationship with him.

Then why don't port draft busslinger, take their 2023 1st to the draft and keep their players and forget about JHF if thats the case..sounds like you want your club to be worse off if giving that sort of haul up gets JHF?
