Wright is not being a flog, he is just doing his job and trying to get the best deal for his club. Like we wanted more last year for Clark who couldn't get a regular game, Henry is in the same development stage. The deal will get done and most likely both sets of fans won't be happy. Pies fans will call Mackie a flog and cats fans will call Wright a flog.
Agree both are doing their job and doing them well. Wright is a good recruiter and has found some good players for the Pies as well as helped them with some good deals.

And I wouldn’t be going onto the Pies board and calling him a flog, if I did I’d expect that the fans wouldn’t tolerate that. Mackie is not just a respected staff member but a 3 time premiership player. It’s embarrassing that we would accept another fan coming on to our board talking like that about one of our own.

I really hope we play Neale for 12 plus games next year - this could easily be achieved IMO by Resting Hawkins and Jezza for a couple and then playing all three but having Cameron double down on that kamikaze high forward, centre bounce attending roamed all over the ground he did a couple of times! I loved watching that and think Cameron actually plays better when he isn’t a key target for the long ball- save for his Collingwood final game where he put us on his back as a key forward

Pretty minimal chance of that being true, if it is then expect Mackie to not be in the job at the end of this trade period. Difficult enough to be doing his job with the former worker who is legendary also still working in a similar role. If he had Wells come in over the top of him and undermine him it would make his job untenable.
This is completely against the kind of work environment fostered at the club.
Rumour and very unlikely.
Mackie is smarter than that

I hope you are correct.

I barely see him having any tricks with my eyes (maybe a good first sidestep like Bruhn seems to have).

Not much pace.
Looks an average kick.
Definitely not a goal kicker.
Haircut is very Dawsons Creek.

I feel he will need to become and absolute inside bull to be effective.

Certainly hope I'm wrong.
Plenty of people were telling me Constable was going to be good in the early days... I just saw a non-damaging player and was spot on.

Anyway... I'd love to be wrong on Stephens... It's certainly a big year for him coming up with stacks of opposition to push him.

I like him...and if as has been mentioned he played the bad guy in team prep... the club will know what they have perhaps better than all of us.

My concern on him is seems to lack hurt factor. Cooper is good but not great. What part of his game is special? Im nots sure.

The one thing we know is that the amount of mid talent we have brought in that the clock is ticking.

Where have you witnessed Coops tricks to be so confident? Is it AFL, VFL or prior to drafting?

I feel like I sound like a smart ass asking but I'm not meaning too, genuinely interested, I want him to be good but I just haven't seen it.
Watching his junior career.

You’d expect Hawkins will need a bit more management as he gets older but he’s defying that expectation at the moment.

I think 12 games is a bit optimistic unless we either of our 2 KPF’s get injured but Neale will hopefully get at least 6-8 games in 2023.

Conway will also come in you’d think for Stanley or Ceglar for games hopefully as well.

My career has been doing deals (non football) for over 30 years. Good negotiators don’t get upset at the person on the other side

It is Human nature to be offended when you don’t get what you want. But In the end it is just a negotiation and you play the hands you got. If people get overly focussed on the other person being a “flog” it can distract from getting best outcome.

doesn’t mean Collingwood need to cave it. It is there choice as it is the cats. There is no independent fair arbitration - just a final offer and acceptance or not when needed.
Absolutely. Who cares whether Mackie likes to trash talk or sweet-talk, buy fancy lunches or fart the national anthem? He's not there for a date FFS.

I'm all for getting Henry with #25 and I feel it's a very good chance to happen.

I honestly think that Henry has shown much more at top level than Bruhn though and we handed over #18 for Bruhn.

In my head... I just think we overpaid for Bruhn, but time will tell.

Henry has had some really good moments so far, whereas Bruhn has had minimal (really looked underwhelming).

FWIW - I hope Henry + Bruhn turn into future Geelong guns... or at least solid contributors... But #18 for Bruhn is a bit of a head scratch for mine.
As you say time will tell. But what I do hear (for what that is worth) is that he is of high character and will fit really well with that younger crew we want to take us forward in the second half of the decade. I understand that despite the fact that his trade may restrict opportunity for some of those drafted this year they are are very excited about him coming on board - and will feel the same with Ollie H.

That is a really good sign if our young blokes have that level of maturity…whether any of them become elite footballers time will tell as you say…but starting with character and good attitude is a great place

That is what I thought would happen this year….and was predicting it week on week until I gave up around round 15! Games ”managed” over the past couple of years is ZERO. Maybe that will change but I am not holding my breath.

Hoping Toby gets a tsate in 2023 but also assume everyone is patient for his peak in second half of the decade

I’m ok with Esava staying and working his way to becoming a KPD.

Equally if injuries did strike I’d be comfortable with a number of options;

I think we can trust 2 or 3 of SDK, Kolo, Henry and Stewart with Blitz or Stanley dropping back more.

Blitz could go back for a stretch given our increased midfield depth.

Stanley could go back and give Conway or Neale time in the ruck.

No reason OH could not learn the ropes a KPD, Wouk’s help his development if nothing else.

And that objective is 25 is better than nothing (the alternative)and has value collingwood can use so they will take it.

What Collingwood will do is the question. What you and I would do if we were Graham Wright is irrelevant. Geelong have done well to find a pick that's outside of what we want but close enough to be considered. If Collingwood bites then you've done well and basically grabbed a bargain.

Every single word of this is true and that's is exactly what will happen IMO.

Cats should pick up Tom Gillett, can sit in the vfl for 2 to 3 years, as like for like as Tom Hawkins as you will get

he was on our VFL list this year ...did he play a game?

Id want to see Atkins type enthusiasm before wasting a spot. His talent is being camouflaged by a lethargic fitness level. With his shape he would need to be Tony Locket to get picked.

Even Hawkins has said it took him time ... so the kid could get a chance if he turned it round. For the moment id be looking at one of the 200 plus talls like Scully before him.

How is your kid going ...where do you think he will go? You picked him our very early.
Sorry, which kid was that?
Lewis Hayes?
Would love to get him as a KB prospect, which would free up Henry.
I'd get him with. #7 ahead of any who have been noted. He is an excellent mark, mobile, aerobically excellent- can run all day, skilled, and could play CHF.
I suspect he will go ahead of our #7 if we were lucky enough to get that.

Dominated gfl at 18, broke a bone in his back I think this year so wiped it out

AFL were always going to block that Port request to use both a FR1 and FR2.

They wouldn't want to be seen helping to facilitate the move of a contracted 19 yo who has only been at North for 1-year.

It's a bad look and the fact he was pick 1 only 12-months ago probably makes it look worse.

The AFL will be hoping that JHF deal doesnt get done and he at least completes his contractual obligation of 2-years. It also doesn't help that North are a basket case and Port will be thereabouts around the 8 next year.

I can see a revision coming after this trade period. The 2 in 4 rule is stupid ... That you could have P19 be a R1 pick some year and not in others seems silly to me. There has to be a better way to ensure clusb are not ignoring the draft. Is our draft last year when we took Conway and Kneviit in the 20's an example of ignoring the draft?

And not being able to trade all you futures ..probably need to change too. We do not need to go to multiple years ...but if a club wants to do what we have this year ... to some degree its their picks ..and the afl should allow them to use it.

I dont know how much the AFL really care about the move. A trade of the #1 trade pick...it happens in other sports too doesn't it... and any news to gain attention is good.
