Another interpretation of Mackie being a “flog”.

Geelong didn’t initiate the Henry move; Henry did. Disgruntled at Collingwood and there’s one obvious new home for him given where he’s from and his brother.

The Henry camp approached Geelong. Hopper was our main target. There was a polite “thanks but no thanks”.

Hopper goes the other way and we suddenly have a clean slate.

Henry is now an option but not one we will move the earth for. He doesn’t fit a current priority need. The club view is a pick in the 20-30 range is the right price. We’ve been on the other side of this situation.

Mackie is being firm in this view in negotiations knowing that it’s not a huge loss if it falls over and the opportunity to get Henry will come again if it doesn’t work out in trade week.

I still think it gets done for 25 and change but some chance he tries his luck in the draft just to get out of Collingwood. Zero chance he’s a Pie from here.

I'm hearing Ollie took a dislike to a particular player and once he was re-signed it was curtains to his Collingwood career.

It's going to take a complete U-turn to head back if a trade can't be reached.
Yeah hard to like Degoey!!

What Collingwood will do is the question. What you and I would do if we were Graham Wright is irrelevant. Geelong have done well to find a pick that's outside of what we want but close enough to be considered. If Collingwood bites then you've done well and basically grabbed a bargain.

Its jordan clark 2.0 except he is ooc
Wright will take the offer..geelong supporters will complain we paid too much..collingwood supporters too little..its close enough to be about right.
As for bargain ollie could be but he also has some flaws. Time will tell there.

Everyone calling Mackie a flog but surely anything they offer would have been discussed with Wells first, how do we know that Wells didnt tell him to "go in and offer 38 and see what they say, whats the worst that can happen", just because Pies got knickers in a twist doesnt make Mackie a flog.

Not if we get Clark. imo.
Girl Why Dont We Have Both GIF

I can see a revision coming after this trade period. The 2 in 4 rule is stupid ... That you could have P19 be a R1 pick some year and not in others seems silly to me. There has to be a better way to ensure clusb are not ignoring the draft. Is our draft last year when we took Conway and Kneviit in the 20's an example of ignoring the draft?

And not being able to trade all you futures ..probably need to change too. We do not need to go to multiple years ...but if a club wants to do what we have this year ... to some degree its their picks ..and the afl should allow them to use it.

I dont know how much the AFL really care about the move. A trade of the #1 trade pick...it happens in other sports too doesn't it... and any news to gain attention is good.
Fair points but I think it's the specifics of this deal.

North are in a world of pain as it is. I'm thinking the AFL are not wanting to help a pretty strong and stable club in Port Adelaide get stronger, which will be to the detrement of a struggling and almost down and out club that the AFL have recently helped by handing out draft picks to trade for established players.

I think as always is the case, it should be a case by case basis. I completely understand why the AFL rejected this as there is already lots of noise about the 'rich getting richer' and the poor getting 'poorer'.

If this scenario in particular was reversed..say JHF played for Port and was looking to go to North, a struggling club, I have no doubt the AFL tick it off and approve North to use all those future picks to get it done.

I do agree there needs to a better way without placing restrictions on how many future picks you can trade, but in this instance I think Port's request being denied was more about not disadvantaging a struggling club further, as well as probably sending a message that players leaving one year after being drafted, and in contract, is not what the AFL wants as publicity.

And they certainly don't want to be seen as having involvement in a deal they very likely don't want to happen.

The AFL IMO would love to see JHF complete his contract at minimum, and at best, they would hope another year at North he may settle there and stay long term.

I hope we get a tall forward and defender

So at this stage... if we get Henry and Esava leaves, with Bruhn and Bowes coming and Close and Atkins will be promoted, how many offical list spots will we have?
2 by my count.

Spot on.

If pies remain greedy and don’t accept 25 (and potentially our pick 58), I hope we walk away.

He’s not worth all the fuss and manoeuvring to appease collingwood a round 1. I’d rather hold our round 1 than trade for Henry and we are unable to anyway having traded our FR2.

You are treading a fine line here friend. How do you think Id go on your board call your staff flogs?

Next time I have someone bring in a tray of yoyos and napkins , treat you all nicely with smiles and the right amount of benevolence..

... and then offer the deal we got for Krueger 41 for 55 type deal....

...but enjoy the yoyo's and the benevolence
Quite likely to be trade week BS about Mackie to be honest.
18 for Bruhn is not consistent with being arrogant nor is 25 for Henry when it’s our best pick we have on hand.
Further as we all know you are entitled to an opening gambit but at the end of the day we always seem to leave a bit of salt on the bread😁

A lot of people have made this comparison. But I think it’s slightly different. Clark had been on our list for 3 years, not 2. Doesn’t seem like much, but an extra year is important when valuing kids.

The fact Clark had been there for 3 years and still wasn’t in our best side means his value starts depreciating. Henry gets bit more leeway in this regard.

That said, ooc like you said. I’d say 15-25 is fair. So the offer is on the lower end of the range but should be enough to get it done, even though Collingwood don’t like it

I just re-watched some Clark highlights and it clicked who he reminds me of as a player… Viney.

Not a bad comparison.

Certainly looks like any smaller mid that has that "see ball, get ball" mentality.

He is willing to go harder than most by the looks of it.

I will say that I'm unsure about the other aspects of his game eg: goal kicking ability, vision, decision-making, kicking quality, gut running, stoppage exiting ability, marking etc.

Looks like a leader and a great inside player... It'll be on the clubs to access what else he brings to the table.

I'm sure we would have been watching him for years and be all over it... good or bad.

FWIW - I like the look of Busslinger as a key back... or Humprey as a bigger-bodied De Goey type mid that can kick multiple goal and take a F50 mark.

If Clark comes in with Bruhn... that future midfield is starting to look pretty small and without much flexibility.

Hmmm, I don’t think it’s been a problem for us this year. Selwood, Atkins, Guthrie even doesn’t play big. Plus, we are bringing in Bowes who has size and plays big. We have Knevitt and Stephens already on the list. I definitely wouldn’t want Busslinger with that pick. But I can see what you’re saying. I just think you get the best player available there. And for me, that’s Clark.

I know it might be an unpopular opinion but I'd be asking Menegola to explore his options.

Id be putting Parfitt on the trade table 1st - a 1 paced shuffler who is lucky to kick 40 metres - and was not in the 23 if Holmes was available

And talking about Holmes - a few of the players were saying - we have to win it next year for Max - and i reckon a few of them would be saying the same about Sam - and i would be keeping Menengola - who can kick a football 55-60 metres - effortlessly and most times straight

Guthrie is 187... so he is bigger than Clark, Bruhn, Willis, Parfitt, Atkins.

More talking Danger + Blitz as well in the middle.
Even Duncan/Smith are 188 and Touhy 187.

Our older guys have bigger bodies for sure than the up and comers.

A bunch of guys 183 and smaller will definitely be undersized at stoppages + these guys have very little overhead marking ability.
Bruhn, Clark, Parfit, Atkins, Willis.

Stephens is taller but I don't rate him and Knevitt may not even end up a center clearance player.

I won't be shattered by any means if we end up with Clark at pick #8... I'm just wary that height and flexibility could become an issue.

You like him that much yet have no idea what his surname is. 😉

Our hardest inside player has been Selwood though. Only one those you’ve named is an inside bull. And that’s Dangerfield.
