Jumping on Allan at 11 seems really dumb, his highlights aren't that impressive and he didn't use that speed to burst away.
Dude just doesn't use his pace in-game, which is why I'm wary of getting caught up in combine results. Guys like Phillipou and Jones seem to have the breakaway power or speed required to be a successful midfielder (although Jones would need to put on weight). Allan is all hype, and I'd be wary spending either of our first two picks on him.

Still have a feeling we’ll go for George at #12.
That feeling is probably propelled by the fact I want him at the doggies but still it seems like we do have interest in him and I don’t know if he’ll last to #21.

Think he has that ability that can translate to the midfield down the track. Great power / speed and a long kick. Just what you want in the middle.

My preferred combo (currently) is Phillipou / George for our first two picks. Then Van Es for our third.

Can't see any possibility of George slipping to our second pick.

Do we need a medium forward?

We need a KPD more, but we need medium & small forwards.

We have talls, and Weightman who are actual forwards. The cupboard is otherwise bare.

Like I’ve mentioned before in this thread, I won’t call myself an expert but the general consensus is us taking 1 KPD & 1 forward as our first 2 picks and I can get around it. Our first 3 should be 2 defenders and 1 forward. 1 KPD, if not 2 than we need a medium-small defender who can actually defend, like a young Duryea/replacement.

But knowing us, we are taking a forward, inside mid and half back

I don't get those who say we cannot fit a medium player in our forward line. In an ideal world, you want two tall, two medium and two small forwards. If our future is a three punch of Naughton, Jamarra and Darcy, we can definitely squeeze in a medium player, especially if they have the ability to play midfield. All three are agile as, and are by no means slow plodders like some oversized forwards are.

I would rather a medium player who can mark the ball, has some x factor and goal sense, than "rest" one of our vanilla midfielders in there with minimal impact which is our current set up. The more players we have that can hurt teams, the better I say. Allows for extra flexibility from a structure and tactical stand point. Like winger, and key lockdown defenders, a genuine medium forward we don't really have, or least a proper half forward flanker that can push into the middle like Stevie J did so well for the Cats.

We plug our team with too many players to play a "role" that they generally didn't grow up playing. Would like to see us find, draft genuine wingers to play wing, genuine smalls to play small, genuine mid/fwds to play the half forward role, genuine defenders to play defence, etc. Enough of the plug it all with small inside mids BS.

I'd prefer to have a genuine small forward. Weightman plays more like a medium.

First:
Future burst midfielder

Second:
KPD or winger

Third:
KPD or winger

I think the 2 small forwards I like will go between our first two picks.

IF the burst mids are gone, Hollands, Weddle or D Jones, would be my choices (unless Ginbey is there). I would still draft as above and double down on wingers or kpd.

Ideally the team move Daniel to HHF opening up a defensive role or wing role. Daniel can be offensive stoppage sided outlet player. Get him kicking into f50.

There are a couple small forwards I'd consider as rookies

Looking at Darcy Jones highlights… gee he would be the perfect winger for us!!

I think we should try and trade back into this first round using future second etc

Imagine getting 3 of:

Phillipou/George - high ceiling star players
Hewett - Burst mid
Jones - star winger

Combo of Bailey Smith, Hewett and Jones piecing through defensive zones with a choice of Naughton, JUH, Lobb and Darcy is very exciting

Then Philips for later pick.

We only have three main list spots.

Oh ok

Well in that case let’s us pick 39 (which will become 32 approx) plus future second to get late first rounder

The key defender position can come through trade next year:
- two first rounders for Tom Barras from WC.

A forward with an ACL to be our star midfielder, an inconsistent WA kid, and a tiny WA kid with three first rounders, with nothing for the 2023 draft (that's meant to be really good) because our only plan for our back line is to try and get a star to move across the country and play for us?

I find that this “tiny WA kid” to be a very similar type to shai Bolton (same height).

Mate I couldn’t help myself with the key defender comment lol sorry.

I think the game is now all about having elite forward half ball movement.

I actually think our biggest weakness is delivery into the forward line.

Someone like Darcy Jones on the wing position can help break the lines and get it into the hands of our talented big forwards before the Jake levers and Stephen may defenders can come across to spoil.

I would also back in our medical department to get George back to his best post ACL. Has elite power and acceleration for his size.

100% agree regarding Jones.
I'm very wary of teenager's coming off of ACL injuries however. There is no way to know how exactly it will effect his athletic profile not to mention the risk of repeat injury.

Who would you select in addition to Jones?
You could nearly throw a blanket over 15 players such is the evenness of the draft beyond the top 5.
I rate Jones inside the top ten and he will only fall due to height.
We need speed skills and ball movement which is thankfully available this year.
We also need lockdown defenders both tall and small.
I would want to grab the slider with our top pick. (I don't rate buss that highly)
If philipou (dunkley replacement) is taken earlier and there is no other obvious slider I wouldn't mind "reaching" for Jones (wing/HF) but would ideally get him at 21
I'd target a tall with our last pick as I rate them just as highly as the ones that'd go earlier. Philips and Van Es.
Other players of interest with question marks only recruiters could answer are Hewett (flight risk), Allan (best position/ ability to apply his athleticism), weddle (play tall or small), cowan (lockdown ability), Teal(exposed form).

After upgrading Sweet and Khamis to the main list, we will have:

Main List: 33
Rookie A: 4
Rookie B: 1

So we will clearly meet the minimum 36 by using 11, 21 and 39, but there's every chance we could draft a fourth player with pick 69 if we see value in doing so.
