Not that he is under any obligation but I wonder if the club talks to a guy like Williams at some point about taking a paycut. At the end of this year he will have played 21 games in 3 seasons while earning approx 2.5m dollars.

I remember Kouta did it a few years ago when he was injured for alot of his mega deal.

I personally dont think its an unreasonable conversation to have if put in the right context.

Our fault really though...the guy has been injury prone his entire career and we threw a big 6 year contract at him.

Feel bad for the guy, but it really was a poor recruitment decision. Absolutely no value from the first 3 years of a big contract...

We really need to move on from all the injury prone players on out list, or least most of them. We have so many it's crazy.

We have a list spot open now with the Williams news.

Wonder if we add someone now or carry the vacancy through to the mid season draft.

I suspect we’ll go the latter. It’s hugely unfortunate news but we have plenty who can play off half back.
have to rely on Newman, saady and Doch to stay relatively healthy throughout the year because the drop off is pretty significant. Perhaps a role change for Zac fisher or someone else who has an elite kick can help with this.

Unfortunately there’s a decent chance we’ll have another long term injury between now and the MSD. I’d take a punt on a player now. The SSP period ends in 9 days but I’m sure there were a few players we liked that went undrafted.

I always found the 6th year odd. Surely 5 years on way overs money would have been enough

Wondering if a readymade type would be better with Williams going down

Someone like a Markov, that could step straight in
I've always been fan of Markov - tough, hard, plenty of speed....and unlucky to be delisted by the Suns imo.

Currently training with the Pies though, so may not be available.

Szybkowski has an impressive junior resume, but do we need another... "having established himself as one of the prime big-bodied inside distributors at the Dandenong Stingrays, Caulfield Grammar and Vic Country."
Is there any more dynamic forward Phillipou types out there?

I’d say they’ll wait till mid season pretty sure spots for ssp close in just over a week

15th. Plenty of time to add some depth and give them a whole season to prove themselves. Almost zero chance that we don't have another LTI by the MSD.

We signed him as a Restricted Free Agent, he can't take a pay cut.

A freak who had been passed over by all 18 AFL clubs through both National and rookie drafts and the SSP periods. Not saying he can’t play but …

More to it

Police were investigating a group, Szybkowski had some slight connection to that group

Until the investigation was concluded (believe it has now, nothing that involves Szybkowski ), clubs were weary of selecting him

And of course if Dodoro passed on him, the kid can obviously play 😂

Not confident on Philp either considering he might be out a while as well so it could be two spots potentially.

Won't hurt to sniff around the next few weeks and see if there is someone we can get now, knowing our luck we'll lose another one before the mid season draft anyway.

Yep, add another now. There’s a dicey list of injury prone players already, and plenty of time between now & the MSD for further complications or LTI’s to arise.

Left field thought..and please discuss without being personal.
The modern game has been full of examples of guys going to the half back line.
Rich Caleb Daniel Liam Jones.Penndles, Hodge for example.
Is there someone on the list we could try there.
Id say someone with run and can use the footy.
Jack Carroll?
Paddy Dow?
LOB?
As i said earlier, someone who can make the opp have to watch them which helps Saad

My first impressions on meeting him were definitely not that he'd be troubled in any way. In fact, he seemed too nice a kid for football almost. But geez his skillset and appetite for the contest is impressive.

He came as a free agent. Even if he agreed to a paycut the original contract still has to be included in our salary cap.

If you look at the bulk of our injuries, the majority comes from injury prone types

Gov, Marchbank, Cuners, Martin, Williams, Philp

Thought it was best that we started to cull these names slowly, starting in 2021.

I would be surprised, if all of those names are on the list, come next year
Reckon we missed an opportunity in making some tough calls in 2022.

For all the noise about "big changes". We cut low hanging fruit, when a couple of from this group needed to be shopped, traded or cut.

Im with you Arrow, need to start pruning this group
