I reckon we trade back with the Crows so they can get O'Sullivan - and we take Wilson at 10 (12)

Gives us the kid we want (if we do want him) and another good pick. Best outcome for mine, IMO.

Wilson is my second fave of our available bracket - behind only Sanders. Also don't mind Windsor, Caddy or Leake (but I think the latter is more mid-late teens than anything)
It could be on the cards if we want Wilson (and I like him plenty) but we'd wanna be sure that he won't get taken the next pick by the Dons.

Recruiting guys do seem to have a pretty good idea of what other clubs do want though.

Like I said, high risk, high reward. Your thinking is what led to Shai Bolton sliding to pick 29. Collard could have the most raw talent out of anyone in this draft. If we had three picks inside 25 I'd be more than happy to take a punt.
So we have culled 5 players, Kroeger, Menegola, Simpson, Whyte, Riccardi and 2 have retired, Smith and Ceglar and Ratugolea has been traded. That is a total of 8 players off the list (and the addition of a Cat B rookie ruck).
And we have..... how many picks?

Curtin a reasonable chance to fall to us now apparently.

That being the case, just take him and use 25 on either ZZ, Edwards or Hastie.

I think it depends on if gws are willing to sell their pick. I can see adel or syd offering 2 1sts or similar to get 7 and take curtin.

But if curtin is there at 8 id like us to either take him or trade it to wce for their fr1 (i think freo will play finals so id want 2 1sts from them for 8 whereas id take wces fr1 for 8 straight up).

Up to 7 senior list spots (we might use only 5 and have extra rookie picks) avail but rookie list is full (hardie murdoch dempsey plus 3 cat bs) unless we run with a 36/8 or 37/7 senior rookie split. We could also take a dfa to fill one of our senior spots or pass on the last 2 picks and aave them for SSP.

I pity the poor two clubs you have them finishing in front of next year.
Both Norf and the Dorks are dwellers in the cellar in '24... with the Tigers & Shockers not far away from it either.
In saying that with another run of inconsistency and a similar injury run we wont be too far away either.

I mentioned it before and I think we have the most potential to go either way in the comp.

Top 4 wouldn't shock me.
Bottom 4 wouldn't shock me.

It's the first time in a long time that I'll go into the season without having a serious mental grip on what to expect.

Needs vs Wants or just BPA?

Needs. Forwards/Backs tall ones. A Ruckman would be nice. Small defender.
Wants. Speed skills X factor.
BPA. Depends on who you ask.

Each has its' merits.

Adelaide and north are keen on O’Sullivan
And l assume West Coast and possibly Freo are keen on Curtin
Melb should be looking at caddy
So we may have a three clubs bidding for our pick and GWS’s

Could get very interesting

Ditto. I Couldn't agree with u anymore.
Yep, it's gonna be a feeling i haven't had for 17-18 years. Weird.

If we finish bottom 4 then something has gone extraordinarily wrong next season.

Not much went right this year and while yes we have a few aging stars, we also have a large handful of young players ready to improve out of sight and stamp their own names on the competition.

It’s certainly a different experience heading into this season
I have made plenty of money off mates the past 10 years betting on cats to finish top four. I would still bet that we finish top 8 next year

I think we will be a bit like the Saints this year. Sit in the bottom reaches of the 8 but be zero threat to anyone for the flag.

Thats prob why NM want 15 and 17 for 8 so if they cant get 1 off wce they can get curtin or sullivan at 8. But 15 is too late for me (unless we want a late r1 guy like demattia) id rather trade back to 10 or 12 and get wilson.

Melb i agree should take caddy at 6.

Rumours are West Coast have gone cold on Curtin

We should keep one list spot open for the MSD. If we get cruelled by injury again, particularly the injuries are all in one part of the field, we need to be able to top up. If we're lucky, with good availability and no obvious gaps, pick a raw youngster to develop.

Someone is bound to be a LTI, if we want to gain a MSD pick.

I mean yes if its a season ender. But this year we had stanley blicavs and ceglar all gone for multiple weeks so we needed a ruck but we had no LTI to put on the inactive list.

I agree with the essence of your post - and i think Geel with a real good run injury wise can still finish very high up on the ladder - however i think it will be the older really good players still driving it

I think the AFL right at this present time have got what they allways wanted - a very even competition - and bar say the bottom 3-4 clubs - then the other 14 could rocket up the ladder or rocket down the ladder

Adelaide didnt make the 8 - however they could quite easily be top 4 next year

Geel/Haw/Rich - those multiple winning flag sides - they dont exist at present - thus there is no roadblock - and you dont have to knock out a Heavy Weight to claim a flag at present

And sides who finished very high up on the ladder can tumble down mighty quickly - nothing is a given for any side at present

I know nothing about the players at the draft but Curtin sounds like the perfect type for us. A guy who is big enough to play key position at either end but could also develop into an x-factor big midfielder. We absolutely love developing versatility in players too. That would offset guys like Bruhn and Clark who look good players but pure midfielders lacking versatility.

I dont disagree with that and i personally would take him but i also think we will listen to offers and we may have a couple of pre arranged trades ready on the night (in the event hes there at 8 and we decide not to keep him) that would enable us to get really good picks next year and we may pick up a different kpd later in this draft.

Normally I have a problem with some of the delistings but not this year. Menegola has been solid for Geelong over the years. The other 4 are a fair call. There are a couple of others who are lucky to have avoided the cut. Most years I wonder how we will fill our list but they always find a way.
