Its lost us a number of games over the last two seasons, okay to kick crap while we were manic in defense and chaotic in attack as that style dropped off the poor kicking cost us time and time again.

I believe with Yze's coaching some of our players will rediscover their ability to kick, if we could get even a 50% improvement from some especially Tarranto it will make a world of difference, of course having the big Lunch as a target up forward again wouldn't hurt either.
A 50% improvement is alot.

Even 10-20% is probably the difference between a bad game and a good game. Whether we can achieve that remains to be seen. Old habits die hard, match pressure is king and confidence is everything.

Training report from yesterday here -

v good session it seems from the report

i particularly liked….

…. There was a real focus on skills, hitting targets by foot. After about 10 mins the skills dropped off (kicks missed, marks dropped, etc), play was halted, players called in and a sharper, better skilled session ensued.
-
Dusty made same absolute ridiculous passes. Playing half back. Brown and Sons also stood out as dis Matt C and Shai.
Matt C provided one pass, low and hard into traffic and hit Shai on the chest in between 3 defenders. It was sublime.

Miller and Koshitzke got physical.

- Maurice also did well. Maurice ended up in the 90 meter group after starting in the 80 meter group and won most of the run throughs. He looked better.

"* Prohibiting club officials from whistling or making other such noises to communicate from the interchange that interrupt broadcast audio. " 😂😂😂

So basically, the AFL has said Maynard shouldn't have played in the GF so Collingwood's flag has a big fat * next to it as they had an illegitimate player on the field.

This essentially tells me that there will be no excuses for poor skills. Even if you're knackered. I love it.

Pies as a whole shouldn't have played the GF.

exactly…must raise the skills standard …do that and we are on our way

To add to this: there's a super interesting video on youtube that breaks down how gloves have made boxing more dangerous because it makes it easier to throw heaps of punches at peoples heads. Bare knuckle on the other hand rarely targets people heads because punching someone in the skull is a good way of breaking your own hand.

It's similar to the American football conundrum. That is, adding more padding to players in the name of safety actually makes the sport more dangerous as the players feel like they're invincible because of all the protective gear. This then leads to bad tackling/blocking technique and more concussions. If they stripped away the body armour, then the players have to be a lot more careful in how they approach a collision.

It's a very interesting topic.

Apparently the barefoot running movement have similar issues with the cushioning in sports shoes...transferring the impact of each foot fall away from the sole and immediate foot to worse places less able to deal with it further up the leg as I understand it.

Good old unintended consequences at work yet again...:D

The old boys must have been tough back in the day and unfortunately probably riddled with CTE.

"The record for the longest bare-knuckle fight is listed as 6 hours and 15 minutes for a match between James Kelly and Jonathan Smith, fought near Fiery Creek in Australia on December 3, 1855, when Smith gave in after 17 rounds."

That's insane! I doubt either ever properly recovered the full use of their hands...or brains for that matter! :sadv1:

Love the place name...classic Australian understatement! 🤣

100% spot on. It will loose us alot of games and be a central issue all year.
Haven't seen many new-borns kicking the footy around... I doubt it will loosen us up. It may lose us games ;)

Kicking improves with confidence but it isn't the only thing. Chaos and defensive pressure won us 3 flags, not good kicking.

Well we know about match pressure ala Dimma...its the footy kicking the whole Team needs to improve on!
I'll take 10 purr cent!

The AFL Old Boys Club straight onto the front foot...retrospectively!

What - does that say that Dusty was playing half back??????? 😲

Lol I'm not sure if you've ever posted a serious thing on this board, but even you know that no one does a 30 minute training drill.
Footy quarters are all about repeat efforts but you'd never get a full 10 minute stretch with no stoppages. There's always micro breaks.

Maynard was very very lucky to play in the grand final his effort and his ridiculously clumsy tackle was 5x worse than our boy mansell.

i'm in the same boat, i just want to see us start playing above our weight more! i cant remember the last time we won one that we really shouldn't have! most 50/50 games are were trending the wrong way a lot more often than not!
Don’t know about that , most of the wins under mini we weren’t favs
