Rankine's performance in the midfield was literally the only exciting part of our preseason matches, why have we gone away from it in the actual season?

We had one half of a match in torrential rain where he played midfield and we struggled to mark it up forward, and after that we gave up on it entirely despite still struggling to mark it up forward.
