Injury 2024 Injury Report/Updates

Hard to say. That recovery would be more or less season over, so in that aspects it would open up a spot. But we wait and see if they decide to do it.
Can't see any positive or logic in NOT putting him on the LTI list if there is a suitable ruck available in the MSD. Begg's not cutting it.

I hope we're talking to Teakle again.

Yeah I'd take a first ruck if we think a competitive one is available, as a competitive tall forward is completely unrealistic in the msd.

With the way our forward depth has disappeared with McStay, Johnson and Kreuger unavailable or no chance at the moment, we need Cox or Cameron to compete up forward. So we need cover for an injury, which preferably doesn't eat into our defence like Frampton would.

Teakle would be a good option if he can play as he'd be ready to go quicker having done a preseason learning our style.

Whilst I agree that Frampton makes sense, I feel like that would be a bit of robbing Peter to pay Paul
It would be, but with the woes of Johnson,Kreuger and McStay we'd have to rejuggle somehow to have an aerial contest up forward and someone who could compete in the ruck. I can't believe how crucial Mason Cox is to us currently.

Frampton was relegated to the backline in the seconds after frequent opportunities in the ruck/KPF in WA and SA. His form as a KPD has seen a marked improvement. (Though to be fair CHB is not a difficult position to play.)

He held his own in the ruck last year. We would have gone into the year viewing him as a back up ruck as well as defensive depth.

Mason Cox (wearing a glove and with his parents in attendance) is a bloody good player thankfully. Interesting to see how we approach the MSD in light of recent losses

My finger was literally shaking opening this thread fearing something beginning with K. Think I’ll give it a miss for the near future.

I had been wondering whether Steene might have fractured his toe in the process of the dislocation but as it turns out it's something more serious.

While our overall injury numbers are generally good it often feels like we have an inordinate amount of taller players impacted year on year.

Very light on for ruck stocks, Begg tries hard but just isn't tall enough and doesn't seem to get to the right spots

Midfielder Jordan De Goey will be assessed before Friday night’s clash, after pulling up from sore from the Magpies’ ANZAC Day draw. The 28-year-old has experienced groin pain, which saw him miss training on Monday afternoon. De Goey will be given every opportunity across the week to recover and will hopefully complete training in the coming days before being assessed ahead of Friday night.

An on-going foot issue means that midfielder Tom Mitchell will also be assessed ahead of Friday night’s clash. The ongoing plantar fasciitis issue has been managed well across the past nine to 10 weeks, but due to the short turnaround before Thursday’s draw, the midfielder has pulled up sorer than anticipated. The 30-year-old also missed training today, with a further assessment to be made in coming days.

Nathan Kreuger will play his first game of the season on Saturday in the VFL, after overcoming a hamstring and then calf injury. The tall will line up against Southport at Fankhauser Reserve in Queensland when the Pies take on the standalone side at 12:05pm on Saturday.

Defender Josh Eyre remains in a holding pattern as he continues to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered during pre-season. The 21-year-old is running at 85 to 95 percent speed and will have another week of training at that level. The defender is still at least two weeks away from full team training but is completing non-contact drills.

Ruck Oscar Steene has undergone successful surgery on his toe tendon injury, and will spend at least four weeks in a moonboot, before resuming his rehabilitation.

After experiencing a down-load over the past 10 days, while still maintaining lighter running duties, Dan McStay will progress into the next stage of rehabilitation from his ACL injury. The key forward is doing high level functional work including spinning and jumping, while maintaining non-contact football training. Currently at the five-month post-injury mark, contact training will be introduced to his training plan once he reaches the six-month mark.

With Mitchell managing a foot issue for the last 9-10 weeks…why have we not used this time to allow him to heal without playing with it and in the same time develop the next player or players with opportunity during this period?

We have somewhat missed a beat here to manage our older players in the way that Geelong have done with their older guys.

Guess that explains subbing Mitchell off...and Jordy now has an excuse for his abysmal kicking, but not handballing 😉

Hopefully they're both well rested & ready for Friday (& Josh) 🙏

poor management.
Like playing pendles opening round off no pre-season games and in a knee brace leading into the game..

Guess they don't want to put a line through him. Maybe still think there is enough time for him to play some games late in the year.
Bloody hell, I think I'd prefer we pick up a more experienced ruckman during the MSD.

Sorry Oscar.
