Review Good bad ugly vs Port Adelaide R8 2024

Have to say I'm surprised at some of the negativity
Some of us know we can be better - and could have been better in the past - we are angry we squandered wins in search of continuity etc

We also know that 1 win doesnt change what went before. The AFC has a tendency to get ahead of themselves. Pat themselves on the back saying job well done and losing focus

We are here to make sure they dont
There's a lot to be positive about.
There most certainly is and we can only hope for more

Clearly pre planned to sub out Curtin, but thought he was starting to get into the game nicely in that 3rd quarter. Would have subbed out Cook.
This is the inflexible AFC we continue to get frustrated by

We did this last year with Soligo - just be flexible coaches

He was brought on to lock the game down. 7 Defensive pressure acts in 17% game time is huge. He wasn't brought on for his run and carry when we're trying to protect a lead.

Boggles the mind that some people don't understand this stuff.
Rubbish. How did they know what stage of the game he was needed?

What if we were 40 points up? Or 20 points down?

Its a rubbish pre-planned get Brodie on with no care for the game or the moment

Boggles the mind some people defend this

Have to say I'm surprised at some of the negativity in this thread. Showdown wins aren't ever to be sneezed at. Yes they butchered shots on goal but we forced them into rushed kicks from bad areas. Our pressure was excellent. Our ball movement is getting back to 2023 standard. We seem to be building.

We're seeing excellent growth from at least half a dozen young players. Our defensive unit looks like it'll one day soon be capable of taking us deep into September. We're dangerous up forward. If we can snag a free agent mid or find a gem or two from the seconds, we'll should be a top four side in 2025.

Three Showdown wins in a row.

There's a lot to be positive about.

Are you surprised?

People are leaving this board in DROVES, it's probably THE most negative thread on Big Footy, with the likes of George Kramer leading the way...

When mods stop caring that thread titles are changed to being overtly negative then you know the board is pretty cooked.

Is this a serious question?

Subs are generally brought on to provide fresh legs. Smith, although down on form, is an experienced player able to impact the game in an offensive and defensive manner, depending on game situation.

Not using that grey matter, GreyCrow

At least he owned it, would Nicks have?

He also owned their game style and was contributing to their poor inaccuracy. Nicks never would
This . I respect Hinkley far more than Nicks. Our coach has convinced the happy clappers that the poor start to the year was player ‘mindset’ and nothing to do with him ( selection, game plan etc…) .

I actually reckon Hinkley saying he’s not a coward is a veiled swipe at Nicks

Stopped a chance on goal with a tackle on Boak went Port were pressing.

Using him as an experienced stopper sub was a good move. To beat Port, we needed to apply a ton of defensive pressure, which saps energy. For a young team his sub role was spot on.

It was a predetermined move.

He should have come on for Cook.

Not Curtin.

In DROVES, lol, who? And who were you in a past life?

Facebook is probably more your speed.

I am a long way from Ned's biggest fan, but watching the replay now and he did have some decent plays last night as the link up guy between the arcs. A couple of classic Ned fumbles as well, but it was definitely his best game of the season. He's in miles better form than Lachie Murphy, who even looks below par at SANFL level atm.

Should go back to sub next week though and replace Smith with Schoenberg.
careful, you're treading on whipping boy territory there, rational thoughts not allowed.

No you specifically said

How did we know when this would be? Thats the failure of your defence. It only works at a specific moment . It was pre-planned for 3/4 time not when the game was getting tight , not when Port were coming back but at a break

Smith as sub was wrong - we either give him the full game or we let him miss another

Hinkley getting praised for admitting his mistake with selecting Rozee is unbelievable.

Once again the duty of care goes out the window with that mob, and they get let off easy.

Un****ingbelievable.

But although Cook wasn't having a spectacular game, simply shifting Curtin too Cooks position doesn't help either. Curtin doesn't have the experience Cook has in that position, and it's be fair to assume the pace of the game for a big fella like Curtin might have had him a bit gassed. We need Cook to see out games in that position, and build up a bit of endurance.

Also; Was I the only person furious about that pre-match s**t about violence against women? WE HAD A ****ING GOAL UMPIRE MURDERED IN A MALE ON MALE CRIME THIS PRE-SEASON AND THERE WAS LESS FOCUS ON THAT THAN THIS. As much as I'm against domestic violence. Don't play the ****ing sex card. ALL PEOPLE CAN BE THE PERPETRATOR AND ALL PEOPLE CAN BE THE VICTIM.
Bad take.

The goal umpire was also murdered by a man. I’d suggest the terminology used is attempting to tread somewhat carefully in the public domain, however if you’re worried about semantics then would “male perpetrated violence” sit better?

That’s fine, people know who I was, so who are you?

Sunshine, really?

As for the DROVES, are you going to name them?
He's certainly changed his tone compared to a week ago when he was as negative as anyone.
