Sometimes that works the other way. A pick you wanted goes out.

Barass will likely go the distance. We’re not getting pick 14.

Rioli will get done - pick 6 being the main piece. Maybe an F2 from GC with some picks in the 40’s (from Richmond) for points going to GC.

We can then target F2 if needed along with pick 24.

They could've. But it wouldn't have benefited them in the slightest from a trade value standpoint, it would have just been punitive. My broader point is that once your player is out of contract, you're completely out of options. The Sharp stuff could have all been above board—I'm talking about rumours after the fact. I was just going out of my way to use the least salty example.

Something I'm much more salty about is the Logue situation—North wanted to sign this guy on a 5 year * 500k deal (or 750-800k per Ryan Daniels), and we took their freebies from the AFL, a 2nd round pick that amounted to pick 32 due to the super compromised draft. And we really couldn't negotiate, because they could have simply walked Logue to the draft if they'd wanted to.

Through FA, I'd expect that sort of contract for a 24 year old would be band 1 compo.

To be honest, to help Richmond save face an appear to be the “winner” I’d almost give up 10 + 11 for Bolton + 32, 42,43.
That gives us the ammunition to get Brisbane’s pick 20 and keep our pick 30 intact

If Gold Coast had offered him a contract he would have had to delist himself, the same as Jack Martin, and it doesn't count as a being a delisted free agent.

But they didn't, so he can move for nothing which was appropriate because he didn't get a game all year.

No it does. If Gold Coast had a formal offer on the table (no matter how unacceptable to him) then even though he could have refused it and delisted himself, he would not have been eligible for the SSP without passing through the Draft or Preseason draft first. But they didn't they just delisted him.

Otherwise there would be no need to trade for anyone out of contract.

End of round 1 (north compo pick currently held by GC) is pick 23, by end of draft day 1 it will be at least 27 after bids matched for Ashcroft, Lombard, Kako and Marshall. A team would have to really like the 27th best player to put a F1 on the table.

From a Freo perspective yes, Tigers will have picks coming from everywhere, they can just hold Bolton if they don't like whats offered. I wouldn't trade a 25 year old Sonny Walters for picks 10 and 18.

Effectively F1 and Noble for Houston would be ridiculous trading by Pies. I wonder what else Suns need to make that work from the Pies and then what else Port need to accept 13 and 23 for Houston.

If Port sound like accepting that, Freo just need to point to it and 10 and 18 is more than fair for Bolton

Especially when unlike American sports, there's not even a token "no talking" period. They have plenty of time to discuss leading up to trade period.

Still finding it hard to understand that pick 13 is 'okay' for Port for Houston and we have to cough up 10+another first for Bolton. They are both contracted and only a year apart in age, Houston is a double AA (current!)
Surely Walls and co. are waiting for this deal to happen in order to set precedent on Bolton..

It's only because they have set this up as a 'window' that everyone pays attention. Shit happens when it happens, not sure why it affects you or anybody else for that matter..

Unless Richmond is paying a mammoth, absolutely stupid amount of his salary for a few years, then it's not good enough by the club.

The salary could help us bring in elite talent next season, re Warner.

But if salary isn't a factor, then it's non negotiable to give up both picks
