Sounds like Sos just trying to destabilise and see what if anything shakes loose. Force pressure to overpay for tom maybe a good player becomes available - Hok? Idk. He's done it before if never or rarely with any form of success

I think TDK should go to Geelong on a $500k per year contract with the obligatory Cotton On top up of approx $10m. The Cats can then go and recruit Matt Rowell on a similar contract, and the rest of the league can sit around wondering whether the AFL will ever investigate.
If Saints offering that amount that's just sheer stupidity. Their list has gaping holes and as we've seen with Grundy, you don't go sell the farm on Ruckmen, even if they're the top of the crop. 1.7million is 2 top end mids or KPP which will be more valuable to them.
Doubt there is much substance to the comments.
Any club paying TDK upwards of $1.5m is poorly managed.
TDK is much more likely to stay than go, half of the incremental will go to ATO anyway.

Cottrell will be fantastic depth. If we are to improve he is one who will be pushed out along with a few others like Fogarty who will also be fantastic depth. Good honest players but not really genuine or high quality forwards. Thinking back to the mid 90's when we had a really good list, a good comparison would be someone like Ron De Iulio. Not quite best 22 but would come in and play well when needed.
Our smaller forwards have been really weak. So we are hoping to get a lift from Williams, E Hollands, Motlop, Moir, Smith and maybe others like Durdin and Fantasia plus we will have a proper third tall with Kemp there as well. So it will be a new look and hopefully vastly improved forward line for us and it will be hard to crack a game but we will need those quality depth players.
I think we are in good stead for forwards but we need new faces to come into the team in the forward line because we are desperate to improve in this area and if that doesn't happen we will need to target good forwards in the draft and trade period and go pretty hard because what we have had the last few season doesn't cut the mustard.

Not getting wound up about whether he stays or goes (obviously would prefer the former), he's not the messiah (and he doesn't seem to be a naughty boy)
As you say only concern I have is whether or not this carry on will affect his form.
Maybe the player's manager pushing the article, trying to push his wage up.
TDK needs factor in that nearly half of those extra $ will be taken in tax.

He didnt play for a big team but played in a very good team for most his career and had a lot of success even though he didnt win a flag.Why do the AFL Media always have a woody for Nick Riewoldt then?
There are some exceptions. Not saying its the case for everyone but is the case more often then not.

Until we have other smalls playing up forward who can reliably apply the kind of pressure Fogs does, I'm not sure how we can cut him.
Correct, a 700k pay increase in actual terms is more like 400k. Still massive money but not the same.
Reckon something has been lost in translation here. 1.7mil? Maybe a front ended contract the averages out to 1.3ish.
I doubt there going to pay a guy who only just became our number 1 ruck last year and has only finished in our B&F top 10 once (last year, 7th).

The same has been said about plenty of players.
Fog is crucial right up until someone with more hurt factor decides to put in the same defensive efforts as Fog himself. The minute that happens he becomes depth.
Hasn't happened yet, but we'll see what 2025 brings with Moir looking sharp, Williams fit, Cottrell fit, Motlop fit, Durdin fit, Fantasia fit, Kemp moved forward, Lij ready to go up a level, Jagga deserving of a starting spot...there are going to be some tough conversations at the selection table.

The taxed amount is irrelevant. He will be paying the highest tax rate for the rest of his life. The biggest thing is a dollar now is worth a lot more than A dollar in the future.
If the figures are correct imo he is crazy to stay or we are crazy getting close to that amount.
