FOS looks like he’s been in that team 12 months
Perhaps his calm approach and clean disposal will rub off on a few of the others around him like in some kind of bizarro footy universe where the older experienced blokes learn from the rookie.

Although they didn't seem to learn from Sheez when he was down the back so I think I might just be dreaming.

You don't think if the were more accurate, we wouldn't be bagging the crap out of the defense?
If we kicked 15.9, supporters would be crowing?
Not saying that the back 6 were fautless but at leat it wasn't that dump kick, repeat entries, kick down the line, repeat entries that we've all become accustomed too?

I actually thought McKercher was quite poor...gave a lot of handballs to his players under pressure when he himself had a bit more time.
FOS looks to be a lock for rd 1, played with poise and excellent being another outlet from defensive and big kudos to RHJ.

Can only hope this performance can be carried out into Rd 1...albeit better finishing.
The problem is that our 1 v 1 defenders are terrible 1 v 1. Except archer. Logue is ok and hasnt played for 18 m basically - the wrist injury was very bad after an ACL. So he gets a pass. But corr and lmac are liabilities in a contest. And turn it over on top - but also weirdly seem to massively overrate themselves with ball in hand. Chom who we love needs to learn to defend - ill back him and he has other elite qualities to work with. Corr and lmac have none. We dont go forward with them stealing game time from others. FOS already looks better. Way better.

Hes also gutsy in the air. Thats hard to coach. Great signs.

Last year Corr was one of the best defenders in the comp for not losing 1 vs 1

He cost us 4 of the first 5 goals I think.
3 as the Mullets direct opponent, then a panicked handball straight to the oppo fwd directly in front.

LMac has the worst ball drop I think I've seen and plays a decent game out of every handful. He is brave and that's where it ends.

Both need to go.

Corr needs a large block of games to get up to speed. Look at last year, took him a good 6 weeks to get going. But when he did we were all singing his praises.

It’d be nice if people stopped bashing players over 1 practice game hey.

Signs are much better than last week. Keep in mind it’s a practice match. If you’re a senior player your primary goal is to be able to run out the game uninjured. The intensity will always come from the younger guys vying for the last spots in a team. And maybe WC had more of that happening than us. Either way save doomsday judgement for round 1.

15 were hand balls and he is going at 63%.

People on this board overrate him. He will not be near the best in the comp with terrible decision making and shit skills.

His DE% should have been way lower, but Champion data count an effective disposal even if you have sold your teammate into trouble.

Phillips isn’t my boy at all, but I find it strange that anyone is using him to justify how shit McKercher was.

A zero gamer in FOS looked better than both of them. At least he doesn’t panic and sell his teammates into trouble.
McKercher will come good ive no doubt, but still McTorcher was worth the like for the lol value.

Thought Phillips was one of our best to half time at least. Was very good in traffic and showing promising signs.

FOS will be a jet. For the skill and poise what stood out for me was one of his tackles where he was super determined not to allow it to be broken. We have numerous cats that wouldn't have held on there and was the typical tackle most first year players have broken.

Didn’t get to watch it yesterday, but was keeping track of the game through this thread. And holy moley. Some posters on here have completely lost their minds. I can understand it given what the club has put us through, but dear lord.

Watched the game this morning and it was pretty much a good game for us. Seemed like a normal praccy match in a million degree heat. One side pretty much dominated the majority of the first 3 quarters, but didn’t take their chances in front of the sticks, and were completely zapped in the last.

Way more confident on the season than I was after the Melbourne match.

I'm actually gobsmacked that people are talking about how shit McKercher's skills are after 2 pre season games for a 19 year old.

Last season he was considered top 3 best ball users at our club. Below are the stats to prove it. Even more impressive for a first year player.

I thought we looked pretty good between the arcs, but shit was going haywire inside them. The ease with which West Coast scored when they got in our d50 was especially worrying. It wasn't as though they were attacking with any sort of potency. We handed them several goals due to an inability to execute the most basic of fundamentals (which has been an ongoing theme for years now). I'm cautiously optimistic for round one because we should've thumped them, but we really need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot.

Agree 100%

We showed more composure between the arcs (particularly in the first quarter) than I've seen for a long time. Allowed for some decent inside 50 entries. This should be our one-wood and I can see us properly torching some teams in this fashion. Whether we can put it on the scoreboard is another matter.

BUT, as you say, the defensive 50 was a jittery shambles at times.

Incidentally, in the other GIF thread, I used the following GIF to describe the 1st half of our season (not sure its our foot that's in the greatest danger) ...

Bagging out Colby after a pre-season game.
This is an all-time shit-take.
Let's revisit in a year.

He got called McTorcher, fact is he did torch it yesterday and is prone to it atm. His role is important as you say and he'll improve, but i dont mind throwing him a challenge to keep that nickname off the boards as much as possible. Seems a straight forward fix, stop torching it.

His problem yesterday was he couldn't get within coowee of Waterman to make a contest. Some of that was the speed of which the ball came in and it's hard to tell what's happening out of frame but his reaction time and speed on the lead did seem down.

Would he even be aware of this new “nickname”?

My whole point was that most on this board lay into other players for mistakes, but then seem to give their favourites a pass mark.

If you going to lay into one then lay into them all when they play poorly.

Justifying McKerchers game on the back of Phillips being poor after quarter time is pure cope.
Well there's blunders and blunders, but fair enough. I will, using myself as a very fine example of your stance, be more willing to accept a dodgy handball from a young bloke trying to freewheel through the guts than a mung from a "senior" player that misses a simple target by some 10 or 15 metres.
