Think you’re grossly underestimating how many people are needed to travel with a team. Physio? Doctors? Trainers? Equipment Managers at a minimum. They’re huge travelling parties that are a minimum that they need to travel with.

We’d have all loved for it to be at Marvel, or at worst watching the game on TV, but the right call was made.
Haha nah covid showed those numbers are drastically reduced when circumstances change.

Would you believe me if i told you afl matches have taken place for decades with half of today's support staff. Required and desired are vastly different terms.

Just play us round 25 then. Last bye weekend. Round 24 play thursday and friday gc and bombers vs opponents. If any of us a finals chance u schedule them Sunday 1st week of finals if they make it.

Plenty of non disruptive options i think it's stupid to alter amy more of the fixture and games that are locked.

We may have other postponements this year.

It might be something like this:

Round 24:
Thursday night (2 games)
Ess v Carlton
GC vs Port

Wednesday night (6 days later)
Gold Coast versus Essendon

This gives the players from Gold Coast and Essendon around 10 days to prepare for a finals match if either, or both make it, so that they are not disadvantaged compared to the other clubs who get a fortnight off.

What if i told you a qld NRL team is playing interstate this weekend?

Impossible. Implausible. Too hard. Swap 6 games instead.
Yeah and one of the NRL wives has come out and slammed them. Said she’s 6 months pregnant with two little kids and she’s expected to cope on her own. It’s not about flying the families as well which should end difiicult to arrange on such short notice. Players may want to protect their homes , limit damage etc. Lachie Neale said he wouldn’t have played if moved interstate

Mate it's a CAT 2 cyclone and you're acting like it's Hurricane Katrina. Relax yeah.

For anyone who knows their stuff it's basically higher than normal winds and at worst minor damage to trees and shrubbery. No homes or cars are going to be flying away and no windows will be broken. The hyperbole and fearmongering in regards to this (obviously driven by news media) is unbelievable.

People either evacuate to a hotel somewhere or they hunker down for a few hours. It's not like Russia is advancing. Far out.

Oh yeah sure ..windy with a couple of showers. You know more than the experts and you just want to see your footy regardless.

It's actually the flooding that most are concerned about, especially if it comes in at high tide in the middle of the night. Not sure how well you know Brisbane but it is prone to flooding. Pretty sure the NRL family referred to live in a bayside suburb; residents of bayside suburbs have been urged to evacuate.

So its wont be destructive winds then? Likely minor house damage? Significant damage to trees and caravans?

That stuff just a media beat up?

I think the evacuation centres have been set up for people whose hair has been ruffled by the minor winds

Doesn't this seem totally unfair if either team are playing finals?
Don’t teams normally win when they play teams coming off the bye? Just quietly might not be the worst thing…

Round 24 can’t be serious. I don’t think we’ll make finals but Suns might. Clear disadvantage of other finalists get a week off and they don’t. Plus that may leave some contenders having to wait an extra week as to whether their season is over or not, some higher up the eight may not know their opponent where some may and have two weeks to prep.

We should still go and suit up, walk out on to the ground ready to play. What are the AFL gonna do stop us? Dont answer the phone in the lead up when they try to call
100%

AFL used to be a tough game

At the first siren both teams should start on the eroding sands at Broadbeach and whoever gets at least 10 players to the ground and kicks the first goal wins

I think some serious perspective is needed by a few here.

It's not fair, and it's unfortunate that we're one of the teams involved but that's life. There's a natural disaster on the way and people here are crying "the AFL have ****ed us!!"

Grow up.

The logical move is to make the decision that impacts the fewest people and with minimal logistical issues. Currently, two teams are impacted (well four, but there is an obvious simple solution for Brisbane and Geelong). That's pretty ideal.

If we need to play in the pre-finals bye then so be it.
