Gold Coast vs Brisbane and Geelong vs Essendon already happened in the practice game. I propose both matches to be counted as premiership points and replace Gold Coast's home game vs Brisbane with Gold Coast vs Essendon. Gold Coast can keep their regular bye.

We will generously trade our home game vs Geelong for last week's game so Geelong can finally have 11 GMHBA games. Geelong travel to Brisbane that week instead of playing us. We have our mid-season bye that week. Problem solved.

I'm more annoyed about the bye in round 4 with no extra game to show for it.

We'll be a game behind everyone. I suppose we can say we have a game in hand and pretend that we would have been in the 8 if not for the bye.

But in reality, we're probably carrying a loss.

The best time to have a mid-week catch up game while keeping the mid-season bye is for it to be back-to-back with the other Essendon vs Gold Coast game

Mid-week: Gold Coast vs Essendon - Sunday round 17 - Essendon vs Gold Coast. Both play round 18 on Sunday.

Round 14 - Gold Coast have a bye. GWS play on Saturday
Round 15 - Shift the GWS vs Gold Coast to be a Thursday night double header with the Fremantle vs Essendon game.
Melbourne have a bye.
Round 16 - Essendon have the bye, shift the Gold Coast vs Melbourne game to be on Wednesday
Next Tuesday - Gold Coast vs Essendon
Round 17 - Essendon vs Gold Coast on Sunday.

Schedule this game for Monday, then in RND 1, Adelaide play St Kilda on the Friday while Essendon plays the Hawks on Sunday.

All will then have adequate breaks until RND 2.

Done. This is as simple as it could be and it's made even better for the fact that Adelaide/Saints don't have a game before it.

It doesn't have to be complicated.

Then, if the AFL is truly about the Northern states, announce some of the proceeds from the match to go to the people impacted by the cyclone. Thus, you avoid a terrible fixture problem down the line AND you raise money for a good cause. Win-win.

I've made a video about it here. There are dozens of options but I think there are only 3 realistic ones. (we also have a 10 day break prior the game against Carlton so that's a pretty good mid-season break). I'd rather us not whinge about it, and just accept it. Life sometimes isn't fair and that's okay.

There's got to be some AFL ground in the whole of Australia that can play this match this Saturday.

Its only tuesday.
Plenty of Essendon support in Perth. Gold Coast have to play there the week after.

They could spend the week there and not have to worry about the weather.

Come on BT, I’ve flicked you more likes , laughs and loves than you can poke a stick at.
Love you too ya big lug 😍

I hope you know it was a laugh in context of the pattern of posting leading up to yours. I have nothing but respect for a poster with such a deep respect for our history such as yourself. And that’s the truth mate.

Not keen on playing hawthorn after they have had a proper pipe opener and we are first up.

Hopefully we can schedule some kind of full steam match Sim this weekend to simulate match conditioning
Is that english Howie? 😂🤔

I have no idea what you're referring to but I'm intrigued.

I'm irrationally annoyed by this whole thing. Yeah yeah, natural disaster, tragedy, not good, I get it.

But of course it's Essendon affected. Now our Opening Round advantage is gone - to the contrary, now we get to play first up against a team that's already had a genuine competitive game, which is, naturally, an arch-enemy. We played first in the Community Series so we'll have the longest wait between hit-outs of anyone.

Will be get an OR slot next year? Who knows.

Now it's likely we don't get a mid-season bye. Either that, or we get to "squeeze in" a game and get an additional 2 x 5 day breaks. Cool. Awesome. Either option sucks.

And when we play Gold Coast next, no doubt they'll be in top-notch form, unlike current form; and may well have a fully fit team, unlike now. Whereas we'll be spiraling by then (no doubt!) and will probably be decimated by injury.

For most of the year, our ladder position will be completely inaccurate. Our preparation schedule is up-ended. And we can now enjoy our case of footy blue balls.

It's all so cool. Yay.

But yeah, thoughts and prayers

As much as we’d like to focus on the importance of safety and looking out for those up north, there is no doubting that, in terms of footy, Essendon is getting the raw deal here. At least GC will have their postponed game at home. What’s the bet we are sitting in 8th spot come the final round and we’ll be made to bust our arses to stay in the 8 during the ‘bye’ before finals and then have to front up to a fresh and rested elim final opponent who will put us to the sword again.
