Just had an update from the accommodation. Less anxious than what I was hours ago, still concerned of course. All depends on the path of Alfred.

If one building falls, it will be like dominos. Keep an eye to the south.

"Gales with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 120 kilometres per hour are occurring near the coast between Cape Moreton and Yamba. Gales with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 120 kilometres per hour are expected to extend along the remaining southeast Queensland and northeastern New South Wales coastal and island communities between Noosa and Yamba later today as Alfred approaches the coast. These winds may extend as far south as Grafton and northwards to Double Island Point in the evening or Saturday morning."

Realistically speaking, since Alfred's expected to weaken into a Cat 1 by the time it hits, gusts will be lower than this, and most Brisbane residents won't receive the full brunt.

Brisbane houses can usually windstand gusts of up to 160 km/h.

Had a chat with a couple on my floor. They're certain everything will open again tomorrow..... I was like check the internet, things MAY reopen on Sunday (some are indicting this) but realistically things should start to open again on Monday. Assuming damage isn't too bad.

Sphincter tightening
Even though this isn't the main event (due in a few hours?) Things have been ramping up, strange throughout the day, wind, mix of light to heavy showers and some (brief) sunshine. Also still very humid.

Channel 7: the clean up of the cyclone may be able to begin as early as tomorrow night.

Channel 9: the flow on effect of the cyclone will drag on for days maybe even weeks
