Autopsy Some promising signs but Hawks too good

We could be in here guessing why we lost til the cows come home.

We're not good enough, we have the post-GF blues, we don't have the depth to cover the injuries, Hawthorn are gonna be premiers this year, we are just having a slow start, they're still getting used to Cox.

Could be any or none of the above.

I'm not usually one to be like "stop being so negative and critical" as people can think and feel whatever they want. But we will literally drive ourselves crazy over the next week if we try reading too much into the first and only game of the season.

Hewett - a defensive mid that couldn't really play wing and was terrible at half back, so was restricted to tagging and playing as a defensive inside mid.. Jordon can tag (very well) when needed and can also play inside and wing.
Rowbottom can play as that defensive inside mid.
So Hewett has been replaced twice, by younger, cheaper and less injury prone players

ps.. I liked Hewett - he gave 100%

Highly rated by JPK as a natural midfielder so why would anyone want to play him on the wing or at half back? I like Jordan and Rowbottom but Hewett is the better footballer. Has time when he gets the ball always looks for the player in a better position, a pleasure to play with.

Also it's not that complicated. Only two players had double digit contested possessions.

Why the f**k would Cox need to blow the place up after one loss to a very good team in the first game of the season (and Coxs 1st game as coach) when Grundy and Paps played hampered, and Mills, Gulden, Cunningham, Logan, Fox, (even Dattoli, Mclean, Snell) were all injured..?

Ps.. anyone who goes fishing (I pretty much live out of the ocean) has never walked into a BCF store - its a shit shop that sells shit stuff. And a good footy tackle uses shoulders, core strength and leg drive
Well aren’t you a whole lot of BCF’ing fun?

I’d like Dos and Ladhams as the ruck pairing.
I was up for Ladhams round 0.
Grundy was not 100% by all accounts.

I want the Swans to play a squad. Play players that are fully fit. **** this thing that players play injured because they don't want to miss games. **** that. Play a squad mentality where we play players and rest players just to keep them fresh.

I want a fit team ready for finals and grand finals.

After 463 posts no one seems to be pushing hard for Haydos return.

I’m not but thought others might.
I am a fan of McLean and would like to see him back as second ruck and have said so more than once. However, apparently he isn't fit enough.
I would also prefer to see us play two KPDs. Blakey in that role is IMO a double error.
Changing things for the sake of it is not a mature approach but it's early days.
If Cox plays Logan in defence I will believe he has no clue.

Lots of players have injuries that get managed and are never fully fit. It's a spectrum of how stuffed you are.

Who’s with me for a zone defence next week ?

Will THIS game define them ?

Stay tuned, don’t go anywhere…..
I'm kinda thinking the zone defence is the best way to get the most out of this team. Atleast with the zone we're much better set up on the counter. Against Hawks we were struggling to click going the other way, was too sporadic. Feel like the man v man should only come out if we're getting pumped and need to wrestle the game into a different direction.

Don't want to be rude but nobody rated them..
Adams was left out of the Pies GF side and Grundy was playing VFL.
Both not AFL standard imo.
Apart from that we've brought in Jordan, Hamling and Francis. None of whom are any good.
We lost Aliir, Dawson, Cameron, Newman and Hewett.
Thee players out are much better than tha players in . Dawson is a genuine star.
We have also drafted pretty poorly recently.
Hawks picked up Weddell with a pick we traded to them and he looks better than any of our draftees.
Jordan no good lol Hambling hasn't had a go

Just choose to support family businesses rather than buying single use crap thats made by children in chinese sweat shops.
The fella at west Ballina is excellent for fishing gear, The old army disposal shop in Ballina central is great for camping gear and theres a couple of boat shops in the industrial estate that sell quality stuff.
Buy from these businesses and your boating camping and fishing trips are always fun

Also had a decent contract funded by BCF to re-establish mangroves in Evans river after the 2020 floods. A third of the way through BCF pulled the funding. Not one mangrove was established, the mud crabs are hungry, the fish are gone and the fishos are furious. These current floods are only gonna make things worse

I understand that some people get off on catching jingles.. small minds I guess

Swans list is the proverbial frog on the frying pan.
Huge problems with recruitment, retention, and poor drafting over the last five years and the chickens will come home to roast.
I'm expecting some horrendous years ahead
Just so many players who are either cooked or not good enough.
No idea how we managed to hide this for so long .

I lean in that direction too, but I have a feeling the academy might cover over the gaps shortly

Any chance Roberts can make a kick long enough that it doesn't get called not 15?

I've counted 6 or 7, even from the kick-in.

Any chance of us not doing a stupid 15 m kick to Rampe who kicks it to a contest too. The set up from behinds needs to be a lot better, I'd almost roll the dice on Blakey taking every one, Roberts should be the second kick not the first and goodness sakes no kicking to Florent or Rampe, please no, one week of that rubbish was plenty.

I watched a lot of Hamling last season, Hamling is not out of place, w/o McCartin in the defensive 6, I would have Hamling in. He is a player who can do a job for us and is a better defnsive key back than Blakey is. He would free Blakey to do the damage Blakey can do and improve the defensive unit.

Having said that, I srill see a zone defence and for the life of me wi LL never understand a zone defence when the comp is full of elite kicks who can put the ball anywhere. Zone defence has contributed to our ground ball deficiencies.

All said, hopefully some early losses will shake us up a bit and be the switch we need to regain some ha4ness around the ball.

The umps have a set against us with 15s and not for them
