Autopsy Some promising signs but Hawks too good

Sorry scary but anyone other than Sam Wicks being 'BOG' for us is just not right. There is doing your job and then there is what Wicks did on Friday night.

I feel I have a sworn duty to arc up about the 1 assigned to Gus.

But ….. I just can’t.

ToG is always a reliable guide to what the coaches are thinking. Gus only had 65% before being subbed. I’m not sure he holds his place, even with Adams going out.

I will, however, take issue with the rating applied to Jordon. Along with Wicks, I consider him one of few Swans to do the job of asked of him well.

I would like to see Pistol Pete come in and show us what he's got, or at least learnt, over his last couple of self inflicted wasted seasons. I really think he's got what it takes, just needs to get that pea sized brain in order.
At the very least he has some mongrel about him.
Ladhams onto the bench to rest both forwards and Grundy. Also Allowing McCartin to swing back at times?

The Gus we saw at the Gabba in 2023 is the one we need. Burst out of contests, 20 odd possessions, a few goals and hitting targets with his left. From memory he followed this game with 2 or 3 more similar performances then was either injured or dropped.

Gus circa 2023 come back, we need you!

I hope Sheldrick stays in for this week. I think more is gained (see: learned) from giving him another go than dropping him.

Put it this way, with Cleary still suspended, it's not like there's anyone better coming for Sheldrick's spot anyway.

Not that I was impressed with Sheldrick's game, but I thought he was getting more involved right at the point we subbed him off. I'd have liked to see how his game continued from there, especially once the rain came down and it became a slog where scrapping was important and skill execution and composure mattered a little less. I was reminded of the game Sheldrick played against St Kilda in 2023, his first full game in the mids. I recall in the first two quarters everyone having the same complaints about Sheldrick as they did in this game. By the end of the game people were saying "he's actually going alright here."

Alas, we didn't get that chance on Friday.

100% what I thought at the time!
IDK what the doctor was saying obviously, but with the weather closing in, and Sheldrick seemingly just getting to the speed of the game it was a very strange sub to make.

I think Chad was good, but not sure he was vote worthy or anything, seen him do a lot more
Chad was fantastic AND HAD 12 SCORE INVOLEMENTS !
Is it a worry for the Hawks that Sicily only had the same amount of tackles as Paps

We were brilliant last year, I don't think we need to change too much.

First signs against the Hawks is we picked the wrong team. We ended up getting out played in the middle, forward and defence.

We will beat worse sides with that performance but it's not where we should be.

I get why we want McCartin down forward but don't think he will be able to do what we need of him. Against the Lions I'd prefer to see him back in defence and bring in another tall to take the forward 50. Ladhams as a forward and ruck backup makes a lot of sense.

Friday was ridiculous though, they were decent kicks , for both teams called not 15.

You want them to go the torp every kick

No, but kick it 25 and not 15/20m. Why even take the chance, we almost deserve to have it called for taking a dumb option of kicking it to Rampe or Florent.

We were brilliant for half a year lets not beat around the bush okay, we were mediocre AT BEST after that point. Us being some great side hasn't happened since June/July last year, as teams have flooded the corridor and what happens we don't have a plan B as our wingers and outside are incapable of finding the pill and the one that is in Gulden is injured long term.

Harsh on a few, don't agree on the Pattton rating he's a 4 at worst did some good things but below average. How is Heeney rated higher than Wicks? He was part of the midfield that was towelled up all night long. Sicily in the votes? Not sure I agree there, I'd have Meek in there for sure, probably second best on ground, raffle the 1 vote, maybe Chad.

Not a bad effort though props for doing it

Didn't Gus get a head knock and that's why we subbed him? I thought I looked up at the screen when I saw Hanley on and Gus had a bandage on his head.

But then again, I could be completely wrong and imagined that whole scenario :embarrassedv1:

Are we sure Cox didn't? Hanily should have started

You'd have Sicily not in the votes? I thought he and Day virtually won it for them.
Meek was very good but was able to do as he pleased as Grundy was no opposition what so ever.

**** you love a score involvement.

I didn't say chad wasn't good said he has been better. I wasn't sure Id give him
a brownlow vote is what I said . I had him in my votes for us.

Siciliy had like 8'interceptions and twice as many touches as pAps and influenced the game why you comparing him to a small forward ?

Seriously Chad, Paps, Melican are perfect in your book and the rest it just depends , Hayward could save you from a fire and you'd call him wayward 😂
