And not sure why people are referring to 32 degrees next Saturday. That would be during the day. Our game is at night where it's more likely to be around 18-22 degrees.
Could still be high 20s when the game starts. NW breeze is forecast.

For context I love them both BUT I would like our coach and captain to come out angry and hurt. I want to hear under any circumstances that was not good enough, the effort was not there and many players need to take a long hard look at themselves if they the think they performed their role.

I understand behind closed to doors this may happen.

But as a supporter I want to know they hurt like us and it’s not acceptable.

I’m disappointed because we had a slow start to last year and we have had plenty of time to see how sides beat us last year therefore a more efficient game plan.

I knew we would come out firing and show the competition we are a threat. We didn’t. It’s mind blowing.

Of all the excuses for yesterday the only thing I know is GWS are better than us right now and we seem to accept that a 52 point! loss has some positives from it.

Disappointed in the presser. I want some emotion from the coach and captain.

Yet there's also Lipinski

One of the Pies who almost this entire board has been shitcanning for his performance yesterday aye?

Go figure...there's a bit of an irony in the fact that I was one of the few who thought Lipinski wasn't too bad. Again, relative to his normal standard.
Do you know how many inside 50s he had?

We all now that Lipinski is going to get criticism in a loss no matter how he plays.

But someone claiming that Cameron was "obliterated and really poor" in a game where he had 22 possessions - 19 of them contested, took 5 contested marks, had 6 clearances and won the ruck duels easily was simply a jaw dropping claim. Stats obviously aren't everything, but it was an astonishing perspective compared to how I saw the game and a perspective that you haven't backed down from. Who cares that you said something really silly, but you then got snipey when people were astonished by your opinion.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised by Fly's presser

I expected something a little more akin to what we saw after the Hawthorn game.

If you didn't know the result, you'd also think we won based on what he said and the way he spoke. So it makes me wonder if the players and coaches were just still stuck in pre-season mode

No I got snippy when people attacked me for it and made it out like I said something I didn't

Which is all too common here

You said he was "obliterated and really poor." But then tried to claim that you only said he was disappointing in relation to your expectations.

You were the one making out like you didn't say what you said.

It was a really unusual take and warranted criticism, regardless of who posted it.

Do you know how many inside 50s he had?
Lippy wasn’t the worst
Not sure how many inside 50 s he had
We need less lippys and more guys that get down and dirty

The two players we can least afford to lose just like last year are
JDG
Mitchell

Until we have inside mids in the team too much rests on nick and oppositions can just put most of their focus on him

Yeah well, he didn't pass the eye test for me. I just expected more impact from someone who didn't have a genuine opponent for 3 quarters.

Again, I get people finding it strange, but it's not like Darcy Cameron has been some whipping boy for me. In fact this might be the first time since he's been at the club that I've criticised a performance of his.

Maybe it reminded me a lot of the types of games Grundy used to play for us where he padded the stats really nicely, but didn't really feel his impact on the game.

Daicos had 17 possessions to half time despite the hard tag. But would you say Daicos had played a great game to that point?

On another note
Amazes me how many times roseburry umpires Collingwood games
Does this guy put his hand up every week pleading to get us
With the number of field umpires I would have thought you’d get a particular umpire 4-5 times a year
But this guy seems to be with us every second week and that never works out well for us

What genuine pace do we have in our midfield?

I think a lot of fast midfielders are gonna torment us this year
It's a long season Kap. Last year after Carlton smashed Geelong, I posted that Geelong had the worst midfield in the comp. That didn't end well for me

It is a long season, but history will tell you that if you start the season 0-2 your chances of making top 4 is extremely low. It's a big handicap to come back from in a very competitive year.

Let them have next week to make amends. If they struggle next week I think you're spot on

It's a good question.

Without the precision and structure of sides like Geelong, we may struggle to contain sides with pace who are able to get it to the outside. Geelong seem to combat this by running multiple players through their midfield and half forward line which makes it harder for other sides to structure up when the ball is turned over.

For us, perhaps the solution is to rotate the likes of McCreery and Hill with Pendles at half forward, who could come up to stoppages if we want an extra at the contest, or sit in the space between the 50 and centre so we could use his skills going into 50.

The other option that wasn't afforded to us yesterday was the ability of Houston to receive and kick for goal outside 50 where the opposition is folding back into our forward 50.

Round Zero is a farce.
The whole concept of playing in March is ******ed but playing an afternoon in
27 degree heat with 70% humidity is actually assault on the players.
Whoever scheduled the match should be hung.
Fuktards.

Wasn’t last year’s game at night?
Maybe the AFL scheduled it so families could attend Moomba?

Would we structure up better if one of the talls switched to defence and Cox comes into the team?

I like that Hawthorn experiment with their players and are flexible.

Cox is a massive upgrade in the ruck compared to McStay or any other part time.
We were out run and out pressured
Cox doesn’t excel in either of these categories

An eye test for you is a good idea if that was your view.

Keeffe rather than Briggs probably made the contested marking harder - he's a relatively competent KPD who can spoil, Briggs aint that.

Ah well we’ve got a week of putting our tails between or legs and god help them if we don’t see a ferocious response next Saturday night at the G
I’ll be shocked if we don’t bounce back. The media spotlight should light a fire under the squad.

I remember when we lost opening round last season, it was kind of shrugged off by pundits because we were reigning premiers (and rightly so).

I’m far from concerned at the moment though if we get rolled this Saturday, I will be.
