You need TDK to get Sam.

Getting both changes our sides athletic profile. Throw in Tauru. Max and the potential of Keeler and it changes our ability to play exciting football when you have a number of blokes who can play on the head of people.

You need to set up a separate adults only channel for that kind of dirty talk.

How long does Basset still have, and can they extend the term if need be?
A very important piece of the jigsaw.
I agree Diehard Saint. I think his full term ends this year, but there is a mechanism in the Club Constitition for the Board and Members to reappoint him beyond the max. terms.

Here below a link to the 2021 St.Kilda Football Club Constitution, but any member (maybe anybody) can also obtain a current copy of the Constitution by contacting the Sectetary of the Club.

Basically, if the Members and Board feel strong enough about the idea, then an exception can be made regarding the max. term for any particular President.

Hope this helps.

Its been discussed a bit here but i think the bottom 6 (and even to a degree the bottom 4) predictions, for non saints supporters are fair.

Our track record and history plays a part but were also very very reliant on internal development, which all clubs have in varying degrees and theres not really any reason for an outsider to think our kids are going to come on quicker or better than Norths or anyone elses.

Our trade/FA period was essentially lose Battle and gain Macrae, youd argue thats a net win given our backline should be able to accomodate the loss of Battle but then we lose Dougal for half the season or whatever.

No one has really seen the full capability of our forward line with a fit and firing King, Butler, Higgo, Sharman and Henry and our midfield should be back to the Crouch days with Macrae in, throw in the kids coming along (albeit minus Pou for however long) and it makes sense saints fans have optimism but its all internal and thats why its no suprise to me outsiders dont see the growth.

Yeah, we have to remember that we internally rate alot of our young players, but if you're not a Saints fan or a hardcore AFL fan/fantasy guru you don't really know who most of our young players are. I have friends who are just writing us off and it's hard to argue against them when we finished 12th last year, have some pretty big injuries early on and our two new draft picks aren't going to play round 1.

It's just easy to write us off because of history and lack of mainstream media exposure, so it's a safe pick to have us bottom 4. I think we are way better than that and will surprise a few, but only time will tell.

He legit could have one of those the mad rooter 😂
Doesn't he have like 12 kids to 9 different women or some shite. Where does he find the feckin' time? I have one woman and one kid, and a single job and I'm wrecked all of the time.

Lyon deserves the extension, but I think you are correct re the timing. It is possible the club are flying the flag, suggesting they may not be expecting much from the season.

The realist in me suggests we are a bottom 4 side/list, but the supporter hopes for much better.
TDK LDU and Bont wanted the certainty
Saints BigFoooty forum in two posts

SteeleSaints -with the some what pessimistic view . (Not having a go SS - its a reasonable conclusion to reach)

Tommy Wigs - the optimistic view (surprised you didn't add NWM as well for extra positivity)

So…. You don’t get lucky 5 times. He also helped build PayPal. You create your own luck. Also he still built Tesla into what it is. Like ok so he jumped onto a good company…, so

This is way off-topic, but the bloke clearly has some talents and you rightly pointed out that he’s done some good things.

Unfortunately, much of that talent seems to have deteriorated significantly—along with his mental health.

And he’s rapidly—and alarmingly—undoing much of that good through erratic management, impulsive communication, increasingly divisive rhetoric and his promotion of misinformation, lies and conspiracy theories.

With all due respect… does he deserve an extension? What’s he achieved.

We all like the look of our list but it hasn’t done anything yet? This was supposed to be the year we saw the results of his clear out, list refresh, gameplan overhaul. We haven’t even played a game yet.

Again, I don’t really have an issue with it (I think I would have preferred to make him actually show us what he’s done before extending him) because I can see why stability matters but I’m not sure he’s “earned” anything based on results.

I like Ross and not concerned about it like I was Ratts but don't know what the purpose of it was. Perhaps it's to get guys like Nas to sign on knowing the direction is set and the stability is there. Say what you like about Lyon but his players love him.

Yeh look if that’s the reasoning and we see Nas sign and then get some real buzz about the FA market then sure.

If we’re 2-8 at round 10, Nas hasn’t signed and looks gone… it’s gonna look silly.

Anyway, it’s done, I don’t really care I just don’t think it was necessary

The first year we over achieved with the list we have and played finals. Last year injuries (again) cruelled our year, but in the second half of the year we did well again with a limited list.

I doubt the club would have had the courage to have a list reset and go down the youth path if we didn't have Lyon in charge. We would be going down the same recycled rubbish player route and remain struggling forever and a day.

I have no doubt Lyon can coach and is a much better version of himself this time round. He is the right man to take us forward.

Our issue as a club remains the gap between the kids and the senior group. We have poor depth in certain positions and are still lacking elite players. No coach is going to magically change that it's time with the kids and opportunity with the free agents.

I have mixed feelings about it.

Hopefully the coaching improves this year.

Did we? Cause his first year was what? 2 years removed from us winning a final? The list wasn’t THAT much different.

I’m not potting him because I think we’re all aware of the plan and it was going to involve a little bit of pain, but his achievements in his time so far are one finals series for no finals wins.

Again, this year was supposed to be the year we saw that improvement from the little trough we went through, so I get this is the extension year but before a game is played? What’s the harm in waiting a bit? Say round 10 we’ll do an assessment.

I said the exact same thing when we re signed Ratts mid year before we’d achieved anything and look how that turned out. I’m not saying this is exactly the same because Ross isn’t Ratts and he’s clearly sticking to a plan but we’re again starting the year off with injuries and it’s looking a lot like a repeat of last year. Everyone saying “wait til we’ve played some games” but not when it comes to Ross, sign him with no exposed form.

I stand by it, he’s actually done nothing to warrant an extension (albeit I’m not really fussed about it)

They discussed this on SEN the other day, not about St Kilda specifically, but there are players who get lured to a team because they want to play under the coach and then the coach gets sacked. It's easier to convince a player to come to a team, when there is stability within the coaching ranks.

Who was the player that got traded out of Richmond to Gold Coast, who then left when Dimma ended up coaching at Gold Coast? That's a pretty funny one.

There is always going to be uncertainty, but why would anyone sign a 7 year contract when their current coach might be shown the door at the end of the next year? Get stuck for a further 5 years with a coach you don't like.

Honestly this is really the only valid reason for the extension.

Has happened a few times, recently it also happened with Jed Anderson when Clarkson joined North as head coach too. If the coach has already decided that they don't want to coach a certain player, then they're gone.

Or the player that gets sold a vision by the coach only to find the vision has totally changed 12 months later because that coach has decided to take 6 months to refresh before his next gig....Tim Taranto

Port, because of the handover to a new coach is a risk of the unknown because it could go either way and Adelaide may start the year well then fall in a hole and sack their coach. In that regard for NAS he has the stability of the coaching group that he knows so I'd be surprised where Port and the Crows are at now if he went to them next year. A 3 year contract for us would suit both parties to re-assess how our group has developed compared to those 2 clubs. Or at least that's what I'm hoping the outcome is.

Taranto and Hopper thought they were going to another Geelong who were perpetually in the window.
