I don't think his kicking has changed a great deal
I do much improved since he was at Adelaide
Cripps is another his kicking is much improved from early days

I was at a talk by Kevin Sheedy in the early 90s. Said any young player that came to Essendon worked on skills from day one. They used to do both sides and by hand and by foot. Improved dramatically. He said it took at least a 1000 hours of practice to improve kicking or handballing

His comment was if they had the right attitude he could improve anyone

Wish we worked on these things now
I can’t remember where I read it, it was decades ago but there was a study showing that improving your skills on your non-dominant side had the curious affect of improving your skills in your dominant side as well.

Respect your opinion, but no thanks.
Pitto is only good as the number one ruck and he's no longer the number one ruck. As a second ruck, he offer nothing as a marking target around the ground and nothing if resting up forward. He just takes away a bench rotation.
What he actually offers is the ability to play tough and soften up the opposition ruckman , hopefully allowing TDK to jump all over them by the end of the day.

It depends on whether Harry 1) can play and 2) can be involved enough to play chopout ruck .

If he can't then Pitto becomes an option as opposed to using the "hit 'em with the wet lettuce leaf" option of having Lewus Young as our second ruck. We lose momentum mid way through every term as a result meaning TDK has to come back to rescue the ship , thus playing too many minutes in the ruck .

I respect your opinion but we can't continue as we have where the oppositions main ruckman is getting the most coaches votes against us in half of our games. Then we have Xerri and Darcy and Marshall and Witts etc lining up to try and hurt TDK because they know that if they wear him down their team will be advantaged.

Generally a 3-5%+ improvement is quite a large change given where all players typically fit. The range is tight.

Macrae improved quite a bit. This year down due to mid role/age but the trend is easily there to see if you look at the huge spike in contested possessions.

Re Cripps - for mine it’s about his goal kicking efficiency.

In 2022 he was very good - 20.9, off the back of 2 years where in total he was going at less than 50% (20.22).

2023 he was wayward with 9.14 but much better last year, going at 17.6.

if my arithmetic serves me well, he was going at 47% leading into 2022 (67.75).

From 2022-2024 he has kicked 46.29, going at 61%.

I think Ollie plays with desperation, he looks hungry to me the way he fights, I would love some bigger guys like Gov and co to show half Ollies fight. My issue with Ollie is that he is too slight to have around the contest that is only amplified in contests in our back line. He gets stripped and tackled too easily. He needs to be in space on a wing before we ruin his confidence. If 4 weeks in the VFL though can fix his lack of awareness when he is being chased, I am all for it.
Seems obvious eh? And Walshy too.

These are Cripps basic efficiency stats
Are there any other ways to gauge if he’s improved?
Interesting
Here's some others
Lachie Neale, Nick Daicos, Josh Daicos Jordan Dawson is another interesting comparison so in my opinion Cripps isn't too bad
Back on topic I hope Chris has a big game on Saturday. He's got a lot of flack on here this week which I think is unfair considering all that he does

Last chance McGovern, Docherty, Motlop and Acres. Creeping up on them are the kids, Boyd, Campos (x2), EHollands, Binns, O’Farrell and Wilson. Plus a few coming back Pitto, Fantasia, and Cotterell.

If it was up to me I’d be playing Boyd and Lucas this week v west coast but Voss can’t afford to lose this game as his coaching career is on the line.
This is one of Voss’ flaws. Holds on too tight.
Boyd in for McGovern likely improves our chance of a win.

And needs to improve standards to increase chances in of long term success.
Gov and Doc don’t deserve to play based on the first 4 weeks.
