Ins - Carroll, Harry
Outs - Young, Cowan

Can Harry run out the game and also.play 2nd ruck?

Think Durdin also a chance, to come in for Fog or Moira.

I would like Boyd in too but doubt it will happen. I think system of mcg and Haynes won't be changed and there are no direct replacements.

If durdin comes in he will likely displace one of fogarty white or motlop

i doubt motlop will come out - think he is most secure

Although fogarty doesnt kick goals he seems to be doing things that Voss values (defensive pressure etc)

Unfortunately white might be the one - although id like to see him have another game before going back to ressies.

We could badly do with a big win here just for the confidence levels and moral at least.

Really the team could blow the Eagles out of the water and some people will say it was only the Eagles, while a narrow win will be seen by some as further proof that there is problems. A damned if you do damned if you don't scenario really.

The main thing is to just get those first four points of the year and hopefully drive on from it and go on to better things.

This win coming up could/should give us the impetus to get back on track.
I admire the absolute confidence, even if it’s misplaced.

I have tipped West Coast as it’s pretty evident we refuse to play out a game and West Coast are probably a level above Richmond so should be able to take advantage of this as the game wears on.

These are Cripps basic efficiency stats
Are there any other ways to gauge if he’s improved?
Not being a smart ar*e, but by watching individual games will give you the answer. I feel he has worked on his speed and kicking. He like Danger, would be under pressure a lot of the time just because the position they play, it is when they break away and have time and space, does that kick hit a target?

Goal kicking is different again, that's more a confidence and routine issue. Cripps used be horrible at goal kicking a few years back, then went on a good streak with his set routine. This year he has struggled again but will find his form again, hopefully

Yes there is a chance we lose

But

If we do lose - we are in much deeper mess than what we appear to be

I was at a talk by Kevin Sheedy in the early 90s. Said any young player that came to Essendon worked on skills from day one. They used to do both sides and by hand and by foot. Improved dramatically. He said it took at least a 1000 hours of practice to improve kicking or handballing

His comment was if they had the right attitude he could improve anyone

Wish we worked on these things now
A bloke in my brothers year got drafted to Essendon in the early 90's, never quite made it but he said the first thing the did was was teach all the draftee the "correct"way to kick

Around 1979/80

Sheedy came to our high school and joined in on one of our phys Ed class out on the footy oval.

Did some drills etc and he also showed us how to kick tge drop punt.

Was the only time I’d be shown how to kick properly.

ever since I’ve been a really good kick.

Not one to brag but Playing kick to kick at school and other places people would often comment that I should be playing in afl.

Outside of the few exceptions over the years, yes. The best kicks in the league have all come through juniors as elite kicks from a long way out. It's something that's set very very early in ones development.

They can improve and refine, but average kicks almost never develop into elite ones after they've entered the AFL system.
You can significantly improve without getting to be an "elite" kick

Whether this is ideal or not, I believe we need to play some of our young players (those that have been with us for 2-3 years) in blocks of 3 games to see if they are going to be with us in the coming seasons.
This would occur through out the season and not in groups either.
Reasonable form in the VFl (woudl prefer excellent form but beggers can not be choosers) to replace underperforming first team players.
Right now that would be replacing McGov, Fogarty, Young and Haynes, not all at once but standards need to be enforced.
