Gone from Katie to Black Eyed Peas….to the obligatory Robbie Williams.

I could nearly shoot the DJ from where I’m standing….
Give him $20 to shut up
(I did that with a busker once playing the bagpipes right near my work)

Superdry’s for under $10 & I’m in the shade.

Winning.😎👍

Ed: now if the DJ would tone down his bassless garbage….
Now imagine that DJ’s tune as a metaphor …for the uber-repetitive “sack the coach” anthem played incessantly on “Big Footy FM”…

Order me a beer will you!

Appreciate the detail in your response…

But why do players need to be categorised as being “goal kickers” or not?

After all defenders sometimes kick goals too …they’re all players that can run bounce and kick.

I would have thought it’s more to do with how a team is set up and how far up mids run in and around f50 arc to get into positions of scoring.

There is no excuse for small forwards not kicking goals.

Our ones are sometimes finding opportunities but not converting…but with better positioning they should also have more opportunities to take shots.
It's not necessarily about categorising them as that, it's more a description of their play-style and natural instinct.

Some guys you see have an innate goal kicking ability, the kinds of guys who pick up the ball and not even need to look at the sticks but kick them. Like Charlie taking a mark 50, he could swing around and put it through half post height without even looking at the goals. Eddie Betts could kick a banana after 2 sidesteps without ever looking at the sticks.

As with many things goal kicking is an instinct to a degree, and we lack guys who naturally have that instinct. It can be worked on to a point, see Cripps early career vs his 2 Brownlow years. But it takes a lot of work and a big mindset shift, which is why I say even for Cripps, who has turned into a goal kicker, still doesn't look natural going for goal. He does it but it seems mechanical, not instinctive. He's talked about how hard he's had to work on it to get it in his game.

A comparison for the small forwards to think about, see when Fogarty gets the ball; the last thing he's thinking about is kicking a goal and the first thing on his mind is who to pass it off to, whereas Motlop thinks how do I get a kick for goal off.

It infuriates me how many times I watch our guys flick the ball around inside or just outside 50 and I think or even say "Someone just effing kick the thing!". We have too many givers and not enough goal kickers, forwards are supposed to be selfish dammit - Give me Fevolas mindset every day of the week.

If it was up to me I’d still be dropping doc Haynes and Gov from this side and adding young, Boyd and lord. Now that’s a team I can get around.

Good on you for putting it out there

Young could certainly play on Archer Reid, Boyd if he wasn't underdone

If Lord stayed in, Cerra and Hewett would need to rotate mid/forward, not sure that would be successful

Looking forward to some football success again . The next few games should give us an opportunity to regain some confidence and composure.
However at seasons end a diligent review of operations will have to be done.
We don't know how to respond. Either that or we just aren't capable. We are possibly too nice or maybe just not good enough.

The sad part about this game for me is even if we win it won't give me any satisfaction. I'm not in the hope we lose camp, but I don't really see a lot coming out of a win considering who's been left in. The kids have been sacrificed for the underperforming and poor standard setting vets. But now they get an easy kill with no real substance to it.

At least if a statement had been made about the standards necessary then I could at least think yes, good start, now let's see how they respond. Instead, we've shuffled the deck chairs exactly as we do every other week and say it'll do this time

Att: Gather Rounders
This is gonna sound weird BUT if you are the Carlton supporter who was at a playground in Christie's Beach this morning with your son whose name starts with B - my sons are really really mad at me for not getting your details so we can do a playdate.

If you're on here and you're keen, please shoot me a PM. I'm not a creep I promise.

Agree with what your saying…

My line of thinking was around just having ability to kick goals rather than our players needing to be “prolific goal scorers” like fev betts etc.

It’s mind boggling we find ourselves in this position:
  • Not enough goal scoring contributors
  • Shizenhousen small forwards
In a time when top teams are targeting top shelf small forwards.

I'm at a family wedding tomorrow and if we lose my Carlton supporting dad and I are not looking forward to sitting at the same table as my eagles supporting mum and brother.

At least my cousin who is getting married is a bagger.

my observation has been that we are trying to move the ball better this year…first half against the dogs and the filth were good…but falling away in second halves

I assume we will be better for longer in this match …due to a weaker opposition.

Definitely trying over last few weeks. Issue is we aren’t drilled in it.

We should torch West Coast. The two things we have going for us is that the opposition are really weak and that we finally have our three most dangerous forwards available.

I'm tipping when Curnow, McKay and Kemp all play we won't be too bad. Our forward line is horribly weak and that is one of the main reasons we are losing but three guys can carry you to the point where you are a middle side and not the bottom side we have been.

dissapointing …seeing we just came out of preseason. You’d think perfect time to drill. 🤦‍♂️
Issue is we didn’t do this pre season. Pre season was all defence and contest

I reckon after Tigers game we saw others and decided we need to run and spread more

Plus we keep picking a side that is taller and slower than most

You'd think seeing that ball movement being our weakness and super important in the game that it would be a focus.

Looks like we have a bunch of late learning coaches…

Have they been hiding under a rock 🥲
