Rowell expected to stay at GC according to Cal
Port are going early to try to re-sign Butters on contract extension

Watching Butters V Hawks ..my already highly level of interest went into a hyperactive mode of desire. If he gives us any signal that he wants us at the end of 2026 then we should prepare for what ever we need to do. Anyone with that level of antagonistic belligerence towards the Hawks should be in the Hoops.

He will get some massive offers that's for sure.

Note, I don't want him to go but he'd be an ideal fit at Richmond as they transition and could see him stepping straight into the VC role behind Nank

WCE are another that could use a player with his approach
Richmond already have Taranto and Hopper, while not superstars they are at least big bodies to protect the kids.

WCE definitely seem like a better option, with all their experienced mids either injured or dropped.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in this space. WCE has contract offers in front of Reid and Port are apparently going to offer similar options to Butters (both a short term and long term contract options with different $$$ amounts)

So if both are still unsigned going into next year, they we will know they're most likely leaving.

Hilarious but true!

If the AFL actually cared about the game Tassie would already be playing
In my view having Tassie in the competition will not make it better if anything it will be worse as the talent will be spread even thinner. A roofed stadium is an imperative in Tassie to draw decent crowds. If people know they can go down there and be dry and out of the weather then they are more likely to plan ahead and make a long weekend of it.

Watching the clip shown on Footy Classified last night, I don't see how moving to another team within Vic would provide a significant enough change of environment if he's not already making those changes himself

A move interstate and away from his known environment, temptations etc, might be the catalyst to get things on track for him and reignite a career which currently looks like stalling

This is the clip from last night for those who hasn't haven't seen it

As far as is there a point where you stop paying him goes, who is to say it isn't the bulldogs themselves that have told him not to show up. If he has personal issues and they have affected relationships with other players, which it seems they have from the scuttlebutt, then it might be the Dogs themselves that don't want him there.

Gettable showing highlights of the draft side V Rich … and he highlighted another couple of Suns kids they have aligned this year. The Draft is becoming less and less relevant with so much alignment … The first round could well be half academy or FSons. If the Suns , Lions and Giants all make finals this year …id bet there will be an almighty groan about their rights post season.

The kid best on in the game was Annable …aligned to Lions… thats after the last couple of years...

AFL Draft 2025: Brisbane Lions Academy member Daniel Annable stars alongside top prospects in AFL Academy game v Richmond VFL

Recruiters flocked to RSEA Park on Sunday as the AFL Academy took on Richmond’s VFL side – and they didn’t leave disappointed. Here’s all the intel.

The Brisbane Lions will have priority access to yet another classy midfielder in this year’s draft in what looms as an embarrassment of riches for Chris Fagan’s side.

Lions Academy member Daniel Annable was one of the standout performers for the AFL Academy in an exhibition match against Richmond’s VFL side on Sunday, stamping himself as a top-10 draft prospect.

Annable captained the Australian under-18 side and led from the front as he collected 22 disposals, five marks and four clearances through the mid

He also kicked two lovely goals on the run when pushing forward.

A strong-bodied onballer who measures 183cm, Annable consistently makes good decision with ball in hand and executes beautifully by foot.

He featured in all four games for the Allies as a bottom-age player at last year’s under-18 national championships and will again prove an important part of that side this year.

The latest Academy ace comes after the Lions secured three players with ties to them inside the first 42 picks in last year’s national draft.

Levi Ashcroft (pick 5) found his way to Brisbane as a father-son, while the Lions also matched bids on Academy talents Sam Marshall (pick 25) and Ty Gallop (pick 42) within the first three rounds.

And while Matthews has conceded that securing Lions’ father-son duo in Will and Levi Ashcroft goes against the principles of equalisation, he says it will keep the club’s flag window open for some time.

Really really sceptical of the business case for the roofed stadium. Locals will be fine with it regardless and that's all you need

Business case for the tassie team though, you only need to look at their membership drive and the excitement in the media.

Talent spreading thin I'll give you though. There would be another 20 or so duds out there across the comp

I can see the arguments both sides. Im basically to the point if they want to have a side playing out of their current grounds …then let it go …but do not groan and complain when they end up being a development side for the big clubs to vulture ..as I think they will struggle to keep players if their on and off is not the top level. Likewize do not complain when you get hardly any Fri nights or prime time. I doubt things will be great if they over pay for a stadium they cant afford either.

On the roof… I do not know how we can justify the demand considering the home of football, the G, and nearly every other ground doesnt have one.

I think tassie will be fine in terms of player retention. Country kids drafted there will love it. It won't be like gold coast

From what I’ve been told we are preparing for Reid to request us but getting the pieces is going to be a battle. But a a request is now expected. So the scramble is already beginning, not sure where we find pieces to satisfy by that’s the mission.

Also, we still like the idea of JUH if he’s cheap. Very cheap. His antics probably helping this cause lol.

that is next to impossible wihtout moving one or two established players. not worth it imo.

Well that is the first and most important piece of the "getting Reid" puzzle.

He must want to get to us to be any chance at all.

Even if nothing can be sorted this year... next year he is OOC and will become easier to land.

Maybe WC try to extract all they can now - instead of holding off for the inevitable and possibly getting less when Reid is OOC.

That's our best shot... but if Reid truly wants to play for Geelong... We will find a way this year or next.

Rather than trade players or high draft picks to West Coast, we could in good faith have Mackie & Wellsy do their recruiting for them for 2 or 3 seasons to help them out but only after they've finished doing ours.... nah that's being too generous, Harley Reid maybe a good footballer but he's not that good!

Reid and JUH? Imagine the bigfooty server melting down for days. It would almost blow the site up

It's hard to see how we can do it - you'd think it unlikely - but boy oh boy, wowee, there'll be anarchy in the streets if we pull it off.

JUH. Hmmmm.......
