Collingwood are anything but shoe-ins, are they in trouble?

Now obviously they have Naicos, who just turned 22, and broke out in his first year but listing a 25yo as their main breakout player would definitely indicate that Collingwood are in real trouble in the next year or 2.

Of course, we're all aware that they've certainly gone all in with a very old list for a final shot at a flag but if they fail, they will likely be in bottom table purgatory for most of the next decade, due to having next to no young talent coming through.

Having said that, for Pies fans, is this a fair assumption, or are there simply unknown kids coming through that nobody knows about that you expect to develop into goo AFL players?

Yeah, nah.

Along with Naicos who is arguably the best player in the comp, Ned Long has been a breakout this year, and we have McGuane's son coming in '26.

When the older players eventually retire we'll have the salary cap space to get your captain.

Who is West Coast's breakout this year?

No one doubted Collingwood would be there abouts this season. They’ve loaded up on two players at 1.7 mill a season. They’re a mature list and aren’t in the process of having to blood players or bring in untried player. Can it last all season who knows.
'Noone doubted it'?

Frig me...

They are fine, I mean any team that gets 80m free kicks should feel reasonably confident they can compete.

Collingwood won the clearance count, contested possesion, had more inside 50s, and kicked straighter but all you got was that Brisbane lost because of that 50m penalty?

The Lions will bounce back but that's some denial you're experiencing. Reality: Brisbane got spanked.

The Pies just keep evolving, we'll never be in "bottom 4 purgatory for a decade" 😆
Media said the slide will occur this year after trading our futures away for Houston but like Geelong, we never bottom out at all.

52 points. Pies dominant across the ground. You lost just accept it.

PS How did Rayner get your first goal again? oh a holding free kick that wasn't there.

One week it’s all about the free kick count and when it’s lopsided in our favour it shows favouritism. But the next it’s not about the count and instead about one or two instances that led to a goal.

I guess if you’re willing to be inconsistent in the way you judge it, twist your thinking week by week, ignore every free kick that goes against a team, overanalyse every one the other way, ignore the obvious data showing teams first to contest and with higher disposal counts naturally get more frees, then yes you will find ump favouritism against any team you want to make a point against.

Look I say we just cancel the entire competition at this point, Pies have clearly shown they can beat the best (The Lions) and theres no need to waste resources playing out the rest of the season.

Congratulations to the 2025 Premiership Pies! Daicos to clean sweep the Brownlow, Coleman and Norm Smith!

It's Easter, go and have a chocolate egg. Might help to get the taste of salt out of your mouth

And I’m sure if we were sitting 0-6 or 1-5 you would be stating that it’s only April and we have time to turn it around, instead of using it as proof that the Pies are too old, with a window shut and that we should have offloaded our older players, not gone for Houston Membrey and Perryman and started our rebuild a year earlier. Right?

Precisely.

Geez mate, where have you been
I think he got in trouble for sending hate mail to Carlton posters dms. Hasn't coped well with King Kenny dismantling the Hawks the other night.

As for the Pies... It's a long season to get through when your 2nd and 3rd best players are 34 and 37

You hold on to that, whatever helps you sleep at night.

I recall a club, not to be named, dominate the first half of the year only to slide out of the 8 after losing the final game of the season.

My lesson is that April form is nice, but it doesn’t really count for much.

Enjoy the moment. Im sticking with my prediction.

Actually it counts as 4 points. Not a bad time of year to stack some wins. Teams recovering from a slow start are the exception not the norm.

The Pies don’t have the luxury of a Carlton style draw, look at who we’ve played already.

All 2024 finalists.

They’ll get rested + sub rule etc.

Schultz, Houston and Membrey need to get back in. Would like to see more Ed Allan game time. Hopefully we see Tom Mitchell make one last dash at best 23 footy as an option back end of the year.

There’s also 2-3 players in the VFL I haven’t named that either deserve a debut or AFL minutes.

Finally someone writes some sense into this thread

Welcome to the AFL and BigFooty. No one has ever won a single game of footy without the advantage of the umpires, the other team having a world record of disastrous injuries, or some other evil spell that made the ball bounce the wrong way all night.
